That car belongs to a friend of mine.. It was the first esprit off the production line with the 2002 mods (round rear lights) but it was produced BEFORE lotus got their deliveries of OZ Nova (cross spoke design) wheels so John had a set of Sport350 OZ Magnesio's instead - like my car has :)

The colour is actually an elise colour "laser blue". Looks lovely...

Oh, and thats John's DAILY DRIVER.. lol.. :D

Er, nope. John is a member of the "lotusespritworld.com" club i think and is a member of the esprit yahoo group, but no, he's not the chairman :)

Here's one of john's pics of jezza in the car during the filming:

Ask lotus management and they say its to align the esprit look with the elise 2 (same rear lights you see..) but the real reason is that the toyota sourced lights are no longer available..

The look grows on me, but i'm still not really a fan.

:)

Yes I remember the rear lights from my old Esprit being from a Toyota Supra...and it even had Toyota still on them...it also had the same door locks that are used on my Landrover Disco...that were from...dare I say it an Austin Alegro or some other crap car. Think they were changed on the S4 though thank GOD.

rob_e1 07-15-2004 08:38 AM

Yep, chapman was much more interested in how it perfomed than the cosmetics. There are stories (which may or may not be true) of him walking around the staff car park at lotus looking for parts that he could 'borrow' from other manufacturers..

Apparently, that lead to a lot of the employees parking their cars as far away as possible, to avoid 'component borrowing'.. :D

hahahhaha that is indeed a classic. I am sure there is plenty of truth in that.

As I understand it they used to be based about 10 minutes from where I live in a place called cheshunt...and used to test their cars up and down the A10 (the road I use in many of my videos) just think how many videos I could have got for JW of them testing their latest cars out if they were still down here :(

Great looking car, too bad it's so unreliable. I friend of mine bought one 2 years ago and within one year, both engine and tranny had to be replaced, amount a long list of other problems (electrical). He sold it a few months back

Gilles27 07-22-2004 06:25 AM

...and that lights are the same of the F355, no?

Jabba 07-22-2004 12:31 PM

They do look a bit like them yes.
