Might need a few mods!

My brake master cylinder is a bit stuffed tho, so the pads are rubbing on the discs a bit and stealing some power.

My buddies 1098 put out 17.3 kW.

I'll get it dyno'd each time I do a mod and we'll see how it goes!

My lawn mower puts out almost that much power. Man..

Of course that thing doesnt weigh much more then my lawn mower either. Mod away and let us know how it goes.

Your car is in a very bad shape... it should have more or less 38hp, not 17hp!!
It's less than half!! What's your maximum speed with that power?


I had a Cooper 1300, that had more or less 80hp, to 650kg of weight, BIG FUN!!
And those cars corner like anything else!!

Hum.. I was watching the graph... and there, your max speed was no more that 80km/h, that is more or less 50mph!!!! That is very very slow!!
I have a friend who has a mint 850cc Mini, and it goes 120km/h. Yours being a 998cc, should go faster that that. It seems that you have serious problems with that engine!

That is really pathetic!

The 998 mini has around 38HP at the flywheel when its new. Considering mine is 36 years old, I'm not all that surprised it put you 17HP at the wheels.

The fastest I've managed to get it up to is 75 MPH which is 120 KM/h. It would have had a bit more left in it, but I ran out of straight and had to brake for a hairpin :).

The top speed might be a bit higher with a different diff ratio, but probably the major factor in no top speed is the lack of aerodynamic efficiency of the mini!

put a Hayabusa motor in the back :!: :D That should get things movin

Well, it sure is easy to push :).

Except for at the moment, where I have a problem with the master cylinder not letting go of the discs, so my brakes are on permanently.

Getting a new master cylinder on saturday, then I might hit some corners :).

Thats impressive!! (the fact that the car can even move itself and a human occupant up to highway speed that is) lol... But i hear these things are a blast to drive! Just like go-karts!

They're like go karts except for the front wheel drive bit :).

12.7 kW still lets me smoke the tyres off the line in the dry as well!

120 km would seem fast in a mini as you sit pretty low to the ground

But you get wet on a bike... oh, hang on, you get wet in mini too, because all the window seals are 40 years old and stuffed!

Cheaper than a bike engine conversion, you should look out for a metro gti in a breakers.. (did you get metro's in Aus?) Engine and gearbox are simple swap as the metro also had A series engines. Not sure what power these put out as stock but is going to be a hell of a lot more than you currently have. They are injected, 16v twin cam units. Might work out cheaper than modding your existing a series.??

Stage 1 kit + supercharger isn't too expensive.

I'm modding things slowly, basically my plan is to do a mod, then take it to the track and see what kind of differences it makes. Then I'll pick my next mod based on what I think sucks at the track.

Ultimately, its more fun going round with great handling than extreme power.

Too much power would make the car a bit of a hand full.I hope i can get a mini as my first car.I have always liked them.

OMG...17 HP :shock: :shock: :shock: I better stop complaining about driving cars that have 140 and 200 HP.

That depends on what your cars with 140 or 200 HP weigh!

The mini only weighs around 650kg I think :).

My scooter (aprilia Rs 50) has more power sorry to say mate, in a strate drag race I would just leave you behind in a cloud of dust :wink:

I think that the graph, or the dynamometer have been changed a bit to give this type of power, otherwise its impossible to get as little power as the car gives, unless some part of the engine has been broken, such as the piston, the rings of the piston, some electrical faillure, the petrol pump.....and even in this circumstances the car should give more power....as dani said previously.....the electrical window engine for a merc S600 should give at least as much power as the mini does
