M3 GTR

hey does anyone have any info on the BMW M3 GTR Strassenversion. The only pic i could find was this one.

http://www.rapidcars.com/images/m3gtr.jpg

supposedly this was a road going version with a 450hp 4.5L V8 and like 4-500lbs lighter than the std M3. but i never heard anything about it as far as specs or, road tests or whether it was even built.

T-Bird 06-04-2004 06:42 PM

I heard there are a few of them out there for the road but extremely rare it was so they could use V8's in the race cars like Dani said for Homologation purposes.

There was a V8 M3 that at the Bathurst 24 hour race last year, or it may have been the year before

T-Bird 06-05-2004 12:42 AM

we established there is the V8 M3 GTR for race purposes but we are talking about the street car.

I think a very small number of M3 GTRs were sold. I´ll look for the engine specs later. I just have this pic now but I´ll see if I can find more.

which one is faster? the M3 GTR or the M3 CSL? :|

Evo 06-05-2004 03:36 PM

I onces sat in an M3 GTR.. at the dealer.. it was silver.. ohh wait that is the same car.. .. Ohh I took that pix.. 2 years agol  ..

The car was sold for 250,000 US doller and the one you see in the pix was chassie number 1.

The car had a bit of an extended front bumper same thing with the rear bumper.. the roof was all carbon fiber.. Interior had 2 recaro bucket leather seats. no.SAT T.V nothing at all except for a gear box and a steering wheel  no rear seats either. The engine was your nomal M5 engine producing 400HP..

Which is faster M3 GTR or CSL.. well .. the M3 GTR got the same body as the CSL with the same carbon fiber roof and no interior what so ever,it got more power.. Who do you think is faster.

No I don't know how many were produced. I know this M3 GTR lives in UAE, Sharjah.
And Yes I was the one who took the pix.. BMW car magazine sended me an email and asked me if they can use the pix for their magazine in exchange I will get a free 1 year subscription to their mag.. :D . I accepted.. I first posted these pix at a messageboard called bmwplanet.com I don't think the website is active anymore.. but it was nice when I had one. .

thanks for the new pics guys! they were great. i really liked the idea of the V8 in the m3, definitly would take one over the CSL.

schnell318 06-07-2004 08:19 PM

That one from the rear was the one I was talking about...it seems those are the only pics available of that car :(

schnell318 06-08-2004 03:29 PM

Here are higher res pics if anyone wants them, I think it would look even better with the CSL rims.

schnell318, very nice pics. 8) ......

i think that the common m3 is just fine, and theres no need to make another version of the 3 series............but on the other hand, this gtr is very agressive...(which is good).

i like it, but ill take the m3......
