997 GT3 vs. 997 Turbo... pros and cons..

wich one would you rather have?

i dream of the punch in the turbo, but the looks of the gt3 are to die for

the rear valence on the turbo is great, but overall the gt3 looks fantastic... i think the alcantara on the gt3 might be a problem after using the car so much... by the looks i think it might get crappy...

your thoughts?

LotusGT1 02-26-2006 02:09 PM

GT3

purer car.

gucom 02-26-2006 02:30 PM

wow...im really tempted to choose for the GT3, but i think i'll go for the all-round turbo...more usable in all kinds of weather, a bit higher off the ground means less run-ins with the numerous speed bumps in holland...its just more practical...

jorge 02-26-2006 02:39 PM

I like more the looks of the GT3, and itīs a more focused car for good drivers, but in my condition, in the city, the more usable for everyday Turbo would be my choice.

dutchmasterflex 02-26-2006 03:01 PM

I'd be more than happy to drive a GT3 everyday ;)

me too, ofcourse, but i dont think it has the ground clearance to get over any of the roughly 20+ speed bumps that lie between my house and the nearest asphalt road...which would limit me to roughly 15 meters of driving very close around my house

GT3

I always wondered and thought the GT3 might be too hardcore, but a chap that owns a C5Z and a GT3 let us all know over at Z06Vette.com it is not as radical as people would have you believe...

Then again, he has the best of both worlds, so he could use the C5 Z as a true daily driver, and the GT3 as his track tool - and for the really warm spring/summer days when he feels like Schumi, the GT3.

This is what I think I will eventually do - as used GT3's cost around $80 to $90,000 in these parts.

Evo 02-26-2006 03:35 PM

GT2.. Best of both world.s

But that's not the case here so I would love a GT3.. as corvette97 said the looks of the GT3 is to die for...and I like RWD too so that's another plus for me. makes it much more fun to drive.

nthfinity 02-26-2006 04:40 PM

i'd like a GT3... but i think i'd also love to drive a porsche all the time...

today, i'll say Turbo... but it has to have that "S" ;) only since i live in such a diverse 4 season climate.... if i were in a southern reigon, then definately the GT3

ferrari550 02-26-2006 06:26 PM

I will take the turbo. i just want one!

Definitely, unless this is a new type of Alcantara, they usually don't wear well. The 330i and M3 Competition Packages both have Alcantara steering wheels and both are often replaced under warranty. Usually the replacement wheel is the regular leather one. Nevertheless that material feels great when new.

After that's been said. . . GT3 without a doubt! ;) .

SilviaEvo 03-04-2006 03:49 PM

i think i would go with the Turbo just because it would be the better choice up in Washington where it snows and rains a lot. but if i lived somewhere warmer with another car i would take teh GT3 in a heartbeat

Since we seem to be speccing things out .... Midnight blue GT3 for me with red interior ...bit gauche but what the heck....

McLaren4eVa 03-04-2006 06:17 PM

Well personally i'd hold out for the RS if i were to go for the GT3 but since it isn't going to be released until late 06 im going to have to pick the turbo besides aint exactly ugly.

Well as an overall daily driver i believe the Turbo would work better. Doesn't bother me though.. I love the GT3's bodykit and imo it's what the Turbo should have looked like. The three peice opening grill with the CGT inspired centre peice looks pure "911 GT". The rear's nicely summed up too; centre exhausts work; first gen GT3 spoiler works. The engine is a pure high revver too; 8,400 revvs and 415bhp. It's 147kg (i think) lighter than the Turbo and it's RWD (My drive type choice)

Turbo: +

Usuabily
Power
Torque
Comfort

-

Heavier than GT3
I would suspect less agility than GT
Looks (opinion)

GT3: +

RWD
1395kg
More track orienated and as a result i believe it would faster on the track. For example the 996 GT3RS could pull 7:42 on the 'Ring, the Turbo completed it in 7:56.
Price, cheaper than Turbo

-

Not as comfy

Sir_GT 03-13-2006 10:57 PM

The 997 Turbo with the Sport Chrono pack (the one that gives you a 10 second overboost when you hit the sport button) will do...

Why? It's a daily driver, it's got a boot, you can drive it in shitty conditions thanks to the 4wd, but it'll still hit the ton in 3.7 seconds... which means that you could piss on a Lambo or a Ferrari, and not look like a twat.

The GT3 is just impractical unless you already own another daily car. But if you're only having one of them to use, then methinks the turbo is the better choice.

The PASM in the new GT3 could change that

leo_26782 03-14-2006 04:09 PM

Go for the GT3: you don't need comfort if you are driving one: just turn on the sport button (in our head) and go, fast :D

Bernardo 03-15-2006 07:30 PM

I would buy a cheap car for daily drive, I dont care since I would have a GT3 to play with in the weekends.

coloradosilver 03-15-2006 07:42 PM

For the track: GT3, If I had to live with the car on a daily basis: Turbo.

I probably would never buy a prosche to begin with, but if those were my only choices, that would be my answer. Or I would just buy a new Z06 and use it as a daily driver and the track and only be spending half the money. Sorry, had to go there.

cooperluke 03-15-2006 07:57 PM

I would take the turbo!!

I'd only take the GT3 if I already had another "road Porsche"! :D
