My retirement from collecting scale models! Ermmm No!

I am buying a house currently and the money flowing into that sucker rivals the gushing flow from Niagara Falls.

In anticipation of my hard earned savings hitting rock bottom, I am henceforth declaring not to buy a scale model for a long, long time.

The sad part is the IXO La Storia Ferrari collection is just coming out with new models and I wonder if I can hold out much longer.

Sad day indeed!

Dani, TT and Momodels you are on your own now - I will not be playing catch-up with you boys anymore

Mr.Vercetti 02-08-2006 08:21 PM

You cant stop collecting models.. Maybe lowering your buying rates..Once you begin collecting there is no turning back...

TransAm 02-08-2006 09:10 PM

Hey did you not only start collecting them recently, Sameer?

I collected 4 so far, ran out of space on the shelf so no more for me either!

sameerrao 02-08-2006 09:43 PM

Yeah temporary - I hope I can last a few months without buying one at least.

T/A - I started in June 04 and have accumulated about 110 models since  .. shocking to note it is that many.

Yeah, Hot Wheels cars are only 2 or 3 bucks :D

I'm not all surprised by this, given the conversation last week  I'm sure once everything settles down in a few months you'll find a little extra to spare for anotherone

sikx5 02-08-2006 09:57 PM

that is a massive accumulation there dude

Its going to be hard going cold turkey, are you allowed to limit it to 1 or 2 special models per month perhaps?

Jesus! Quit tempting me back to the dark side you bastards!

The force is strong in me .. need to resist ... need to res ... need to... need ... Last night I caught myself browsing replicarz website - my susual haunt for diecasts - old habits die hard :)

Maybe 2 - 4 per quarter till I mentally recover from the wallet gangbang.

Wait .. you do get some money for selling body parts right? :)

evoWalo 02-08-2006 10:37 PM

Build a smaller house that way you can still buy models. :)

DeMoN 02-08-2006 11:58 PM

How much have you spent more or less to date?

I shudder to think ... 110 * Avg $40 = $4400 is a conservative estimate as I have a few pricey Exotos.  I can sell all these and buy a nice 50" Plasma :)

On the body parts or the cars?

Naah to both ... I won't sell my car collection unless it is a real necessity - remote possibility of that happening. I like it too much for that. :)

I just need to divert my future cash flow to more practical home related stuff such as refridgerators, washer/dryers, gas grills and such stuff. As I settle into the home there will undoubtedly be more such things that will crop up.

But I will buy the Jean Alesi LaStoria Ferrari F93 though. :)

On a more positive note, I am also buying some nice toys for the house (on the electronic side) - will post pictures of the same when the dust settles down. A pool table might find its way home too in a few weeks if I play my cards right. :)

Zot09 02-09-2006 03:32 AM

Congratulations on your purchase of a house, I know that is a big moment in everyones life.

Mr.Vercetti 02-09-2006 10:09 AM

sameerrao dont neglect to include a scale model room m8!!

TT 02-09-2006 06:34 PM

Well, I am sorry to read this, but scale model collecting can just be put on hold for X years :D you will still have the bug in 20 years maybe and start adding new models again ;)

mazmazmaz1 02-10-2006 02:42 PM

Ya man. take a short break and focus on what is imp in life. Later u can add up again.

stradale 02-10-2006 03:14 PM

I quit too, and although I wasn't collecting anywhere near as fiercely as you were, let me assure you you'll make it... :|

And then the moment comes when CMC brings out their stunning Maser 250F and Ferrari 250 SWB. I still don't know what'll happen when I see one for sale at a good price for the first time... :changes:

callen 02-10-2006 04:18 PM

congrats on the house! a great investment, and makes sense to hold off on the models for now... besides 5-10 models a year is hardly slacking IMO, that way you still do get your fix, just buy the ones u really, really want! 8)

sameerrao 03-07-2006 02:14 PM

OK ... this sucks ... I thought I would last longer but I had to go out and buy some cars today ... this addiction is worse than I thought ... curses!!!

I'll post pictures when the cars come in.

sameerrao 03-07-2006 06:57 PM

Yeah ... Yeah ... I know .... I was hoping for good sense to prevail but passion is passion. And besides its only money, right Dani?

sameerrao 03-07-2006 07:03 PM

No way Jose ... I like them too much :)

RC45 03-07-2006 11:20 PM

If you think models cars cost a lot, think again... ;)

My father has been accumulating model railroad models for 40 years - and at last count had about 100 odd brass steam locomotives... average cost about $1000 a piece... add to that the thousands of feet of track, hundreds and hundreds of pieces of rolling stock etc....

His insurance agent smiles like a cheshire cat when it comes to premium time :P

Got a place to put all that when you inherit it? I'm sure your gent will have the same grin

TT 03-08-2006 06:53 AM

LMAO! You were pretty strong anyway :D It was about time to re-start your collection :P

I actually have 2 of his latest aquisitions here about to ship off... many brass loco collectors have slowed/stopped collecting the brass stuff, as the new metal/plastic super detailed stuff(with digital sound and control built in) runs better, is better detailed and costs about half.. this just means he can get twice as many on his shopping sprees...

This is just a sample of the ebay mania these old bastards participate in when getting rid of their older stuff...
