blah 03-14-2005 02:05 PM

thank god they were driving BMWs.

BADMIHAI 03-14-2005 02:13 PM

LMAO at the X5 taking the natural crash position for an SUV: on its roof.

ARMAN 03-14-2005 02:16 PM

Is that M5 totaled?

It is a wonder no one died. Looking at those pics I would just assume the drivers didn't make it. I will say this though, even with all the damage the M5 sustained, the cabin, at least on the driver's side, is in pretty good shape.

Well the M5 is obviosuly not hit in the driverside..

Lucky he wasn't driving the new 4 star Euro NCAP 5-serie

5vz-fe 03-14-2005 02:53 PM

 That is one ugly crash, luckily no one got killed.

TransAm 03-14-2005 03:05 PM

I can see why people feel so much safer in SUVs but had it been a 5er vs a 5er OR an X5 vs an X5 maybe no-one would be in a critical condition :?:

mazmazmaz1 03-14-2005 03:07 PM

Crazy accident. I'd say both drivers were dead from looking at the pictures. Thanks to new technological safety features they were saved. Im really impressed.

bmwmpower 03-14-2005 03:27 PM

Terrible, but that M5 driver - i think more then 200 or more was speed,

now are cars so safe, imagine 20 years back, not a chance

blah 03-14-2005 03:28 PM

The one thing the pictures dont show is the AUDI that understeered off the road trying to keep up with the M5.

That's exactly what I was thinking :D

pimrusis 03-14-2005 03:43 PM

It now seems that the driver of the M5 has a convertible. All's he has to do is reattached the right side of the car, and the wheels. Lucky him...

coombsie66 03-14-2005 06:00 PM

Thats scarey. :?

ZfrkS62 03-14-2005 06:01 PM

 How hard do you have to hit to blow apart a McPherson strut!! (the spring is laying right next to M5 about the middle of the body)

I would say the M5 driver is about 10x luckier than the X5 driver. If i can find the offset frontal crash test video of the X5 VS the Chevy S10 Blazer you'll see why. The X5 driver is probably going to buy a new one when they get the insurance check!!

I have no sympathy for the driver of the M5. If you have diplomatic immunity then you were probably elected to the position either directly or indirectly by the public and you should have the gratiude to the general public the keep them safe on the roadways as well as yourself, as they are the people you serve one way or another.

With that said, Thamar, would you be so kind as to send me that S62 engine?

Wutputt 03-14-2005 06:10 PM

That's one crazy accident. The M5 occupants are really lucky to survive this. Judging from the pics it looks pretty fucked up.

chest3r 03-14-2005 06:19 PM

OMFG

With so much destruction, the M5 should be going really fast.

Some years ago, I would say that the passengers from the M5 were death. But nowadays, with some much technology it's all diferent. Airbags saved them 8)

ARMAN 03-14-2005 06:28 PM

We dont know, maybe the pig was the X5 driver who went too fast and crashed into M5. Poor M5 I say

ZfrkS62 03-14-2005 06:39 PM

No video but action shots of during the crash and after the vehicle comes to rest.

X5: http://www.iihs.org/vehicle_ratings/ce/html/00023.htm This is at 40MPH but you can see how it would escalate from there. The passenger compartment is well intact. With seatbelts, you'll probably have no more than a sore, bruised knee from the knee bolster.

S10 Blazer: http://www.hwysafety.org/vehicle%5Fr...html/96002.htm this is the same test. Look at where the front wheel is during the crash and deformed the passenger compartment is.

This is why i said the X5 driver will more than likely buy another one when he gets his check

sikx5 03-14-2005 06:58 PM

wow what a crash, thats some serious carnage. Lucky both drivers survived, those diplomatic plates sound good, as long as you respect the other drivers on the road, looks like this guy didnt.

ZfrkS62 03-14-2005 07:56 PM

no way. The M5 would have toasted that little "mini". I think the M5 was just going all out because he could. IF they were racing the race started miles back and the M was just rubbing it in.

sikx5 03-14-2005 08:07 PM

The mini looks parked there to me man, It doesnt appear to have any damage at all.

callen 03-14-2005 09:06 PM

He messed up the M5 enuf for the jaws of life! thats a very nasty looking crash, looks like this diplomat may be taking a liiiiittle time of work

ferrari550 03-14-2005 09:26 PM

holy crap, the M5 looks like it crumbled! He must have been flying because they are built like a brick sh*t house.

ikon2003 03-14-2005 09:50 PM

wow, that is one messed up car. it's hard to imagine that anyone survived that. maybe they learned their lessons.... maybe.

raphaelws 03-14-2005 11:33 PM

it's not normal.. too bad!!

Holy crap! It looks like you're a complete moron who doesn't have the slightest idea about crumple zones and methods used to extract injured people from crashed cars.

40MPH (~60 KMH)
http://www.hwysafety.org/vehicle%5Fr...html/96029.htm

with a 97 540i but the structure of the M5 wasn't changed a whole lot.

Holy. . . you would think that people won't survive such a crash.

You are absolutely right. Safety has definitely gone up in the past 10 years, even in the past 5 years!!! Man, now they are even designing cars that are Pedestrian safe too!!!

Have you guys seen that old 5th Gear Video, one where they test new cars vs old cars in crash test? It is a pretty good information vid.

dulja 03-15-2005 05:06 AM

god sure did not want them that day

ZfrkS62 03-15-2005 09:50 AM

^^ If "god" wanted them dead, they would be dead. i jsut think someone had a lesson coming. Karma is a bitch 8)

altedza 03-15-2005 05:23 PM

that busted e39 nearly put tears in my eyes.

Darkel 03-15-2005 05:46 PM

I just meant that it 'looked' crumpled with the top pretty much torn off. i know what you mean by crumple zones in which the car crumples a certain way to save the occupants, regardless of the damage to the car.

Dont you work on BMW`s...how hard is it to get your hands on one of those engines......its not like they are rare or anything...... :?

But brand new they are 16,000+USD if i remember correctly from my last inquiry. I don't have that kind of cash laying around. If i could find a wadded up M5 in a junkyard with a good engine for a reasonable amount, then it wouldn't be so bad.

But at this point, it's useless to have the engine since i have nothing to put it in :( as soon as i find a good transplant recipient though, the hunt will be on :D

The top is torn off because the rescuers used the Jaws of Life or a similar tool to extract the passengers.

aye, there was some russian diplomat shown in our news last autumn, drunk as a fucking hell.. couldnt even stand in his feet and had pissed himself all over.. made an accident and then attacked the cameraman and the police.. but the bastard had diplomatic immunity and nothing could be done.. police escorted the bastard to his home..

you're completly wrong, diplomats do get fined, the only think is that they can't get arrested. police can take you're license off, not the car though. So i don;t think they were going fast because they don't give a fuck about police, but because of the car!!

Aren't those SHAPE plates? Real diplomatic plates start with CD. If I'm well informed, they can defenitely be fined (certainly if they show irresponsible behaviour), but their cars can't be towed away if they're parked wrong, and can't also be impounded.
