Just how would they know when you do it, though I know every owner's Veyron transmits all speed/function data back to the company.
The GTR is another matter.. |
Massive fail.

Bad for GTR owners really bad, nissan have to stop lying!

oh come on :censored::cursing:
nissan makes this gr8 car, and then they give us this bullshit about not being allowed to switch off the stability control... if i buy a car i want to drive it how ever they hell i want and i dont want the ppl i bought it from telling me how i can and cannot drive...i love the gtr but i hate nissan for this bullshit |
This seems absolutely crazy. That means to take advantage of the Launch Control feature, you would instantly void the warranty. I was under the impression that a vehicle manufacturer could not include a feature on the car (like LC) that when used, would result in the warranty being voided.
|
This is exactly what I've been talking about. Nissan failed in that they promote this car as easily approachable cheap-price alternative to supercars that you can drive on the limit without killing yourself, yet they alienate the GT-R enthusiasts by locking the ECU, putting a nationwide speed limiter, (in Japan, GT-R's homeland no less) then setting up a ridiculous servicing intervals and costs that would void your warranty if you didn't comply (and the fact that in Japan, Nissan knows if you'd been having fun, via a satellite, and will make you pay for it). And now you can't even turn the stability/traction control off.
And the launch control? That's the car's party piece. You'll get still impressive, but not-so-hype-worthy 4 sec 0-60, 9 sec 0-100, and 13 sec 1/4 mile at ??? mph instead of the biblical numbers Nissan's throwing into every single publication of any kind. This car embodies everything I hate about Nissan. That's still less than any Toyota though. ;-) *Found the owners manual online. Will read later. |
Okay, well i have to say that's one thing i dont like about it.
But anyway, its a japanese built nissan, so you could do away with the warranty, in my expreience japanese cars remain whilst everything else drop like flies. I'm positively sure there's a small army of tuning companies growing that would be able remedy that situation. I guess nissan are just being obsessively overprotective over it's flagship, but i honestly don't see this warranty issue lasting, seeing as its true enthusiasts that will buy this car. Customer feedback is going to force nissan into changing their minds. I think they want to ditch this entire aftermarket modifying scenario, because that in some way diminishes the status of the car, and in some ways the company itself, hence all these nasty and frankly stupid rules. |
SAy What?
................all I can say. |
Where does it say the warranty is void if you turn it off? I'm not claiming it isn't, it just doesn't say that in the scan provided. Anybody have the Warranty Information Booklet it refers to?

how will they know you shut it off? :?: :|
|
Isn't that technically illegal?
|
And it gets better..
..Nissan also stipulates that all GTR's are washed by special "Detail Specialists" and can only be performed at the dealerships.. Doing otherwise also voids your warranty  http://img296.imageshack.us/img296/7564/capturexn0.jpg |
Lol lol lol lol ^^^^^^^

are they really serious??? this is pathetic...

Hmph. I don't see what the big fuss is. The voiding provisions are easily severable. Turning off the 'VDC' is going to void the VDC's warranty but not anything else. If you were going to turn it off, it's unlikely you'd care too much if it stopped working. Furthermore, Nissan never intended for you to turn it off, so the idea is that you don't, or Nissan won't like you very much.
However, it seems Nissan have installed a very fragile system in this car and lacks confidence in its abilities. They've failed to create a system that can be swtiched on and off without risk of harm, so they've gone for the next best thing - a cover-up. Now, that's bad. |
The point is that nissan want to keep these cars OUT of the local smash repairs and pick a part shops ;)
After seeing how the last 10 years of GTR's have been treated.. im glad they are taking the step from making it a boy ricer burner to a adult power machine. Over protective...yes, but its whats needed to be done. |

How is voiding the warranty when disabling your TC, converting it to an 'adult power machine'? It's not. |
I seriously don't see this VDC fiasco lasting. Maybe the cover up is that the warranty period is actually the break in period lol:-P
The warranty is going to expire anyways, and anyone who buys a GTR isn't going to wring it's neck as soon as thy're out of the showroom by doing full blown launch control less starts, unless they're a motoring journalist that is. To me that makes it a little less of an issue. |

Im starting to wonder how much these special services cost.. Whats the true cost of the car ownership? |

Well... I guess it's not really a service. More like an inspection. :-P I also hear that dealers have to be specially tooled and employ specialists, making it rather expensive for official dealers/service centers, so Nissan's thinking that all the profits from their expensive servicing should go to itself. Makes sense for a business, but it won't make it popular. |
What Nissan is doing is driving all business to local repair shop since most owners will void the warranty anyways.
