10 episode season this time around

saadie 09-22-2007 09:54 PM

is it just me ... or their challenges really are getting boring :\ .. hmm

5vz-fe 09-22-2007 09:58 PM

Didn't they do the amphibious car challenge before?

ferrari550 09-22-2007 10:55 PM

I am sure the challenge will not be exactly the same. Will definatly be some different rules i guess and will be very entertaining. and the R8, clarkson loves it so i am not expecting anything different from his write up but can't wait to see it on the track!!

poltz 09-23-2007 12:56 AM

enough with the goddamn challenges!

blue8 09-23-2007 01:02 AM

^ +1
R8!!!

Will they ever test the 599?!?!?

yg60m 09-23-2007 02:01 AM

Nice to see them back !! :D

Bizi Jones 09-23-2007 11:14 PM

is this season going to be in hd?

jorge 09-23-2007 11:36 PM

Am i the only one that still loves the challenges? :?

saadie 09-23-2007 11:49 PM

Nah man, I love the challenges. The Star in a reasonably priced car I could do without but the challenges are probably my favorite feature.

jakaracman 09-24-2007 07:10 AM

Ufff, 2 more weeks ...

Svensson 09-24-2007 07:36 AM

Challenges are nice to watch, but the challenge/car-test ratio is getting a bit out of hand lately.

Ford Capri 2.8i 09-24-2007 07:43 AM

Probably the program wont dissapoint me (I think that the Series 10 will be quite better than the 9), but I started to get bored with the challenges as well; IMO the reason is because they have been doing each challenge under the same pattern and it hasnt been renewed.

However, if they do some challenge or other program features under some innovation, theyll produce a desirable program for every audience

gangajas 09-24-2007 06:56 PM

Not interested at all in the challenge, looking forward to the R8 test.

obdr 09-24-2007 07:05 PM

I like the challenges too.......but I preferred the "race" challenges more then the goofball ones. I like the goofball ones mixed in every ounce in awhile but I prefer the old style of challenges where Clarckson would race something like a Merc/Mclaren SLR against Hampster and Co. taking the cruise ship/train/light aircraft and such. Those challenges were amazing.

Im still waiting for JC to take a Gallardo spyder on a challenge accross the USA from coast to coast against his mates taking a Greyhound bus.

coloradosilver 09-24-2007 07:25 PM

It seems that we rarely get to see the good old fun car reviews anymore.

It's always some sort of car challenge, and sometime it's something that doesn't really have to do much with cars.

I like it when its just the driver in the car doing the review on the road and around the track.

Don't get me wrong, I love the challenges. But I think I liked the Top Gear of a Few years ago more than the TG of today.

martin100 09-25-2007 01:43 PM

Sounds promising! And by the way, i like the challenges too, though the earlier ones like the convertible people carrier were more funny than the later ones. But the petrol growing challenge was hilarious aswell

And i can´t wait for the R8 review, hopefully in old school TG quality

BTW, is this series aired in HD or not?

TGTV preview: Veyron vs jet fighter

There are just six days to go until the new series of Top Gear returns to your Sunday night on BBC Two.

Throughout the week, we'll be counting down to lift-off with sneak previews of the biggest challenges, races and stunts that you can look forward to in the new series.

And races don't come much bigger than this one: the Bugatti Veyron against the RAF's new Eurofighter Typhoon jet.

See, when Jeremy raced Richard and James across Europe - him in a Veyron and the other two in a washing-machine-with-a- propellor-on-the-front - a few of the boys from the RAF got a bit upset that it wasn't a fair fight.

They had a point, in fairness - the finest piece of automotive engineering in history versus a clattery Cessna 182 was only ever going to end one way.

So the RAF offered up their base for a proper race: a two-mile sprint between the Veyron and a jet fighter.

That's a mile to the end of the runway and back for the Veyron, while the jet plane - being able to fly and all - had to go a mile straight up in the air and then, well, a mile straight back down again.

A fair fight? Of course not. A close race? You'll just have to wait until Sunday to find out.

The new series of Top Gear starts this Sunday at 8pm on BBC2.

vexor 10-04-2007 01:07 PM

here's a more detailed preview of this week's episode

Quote:

The wait is nearly over. On Sunday night Top Gear will return to your television, and you won't believe what we've got in store.

All week we've been counting down to the big day with exclusive previews (if you missed out, see the list below) and every week we'll be bringing you an exclusive video clip from the upcoming show.

But first, this week. On Sunday night's show you'll see Jeremy drive the awesome Golf W12 - VW's 641bhp present to itself to celebrate the GTi's 30th anniversary. It's a great piece of film - so good that we nabbed an exclusive little promo video for you to watch before Sunday's show.

The big film involves the latest crop of Atkins-diet supercars and a hunt for the world's greatest driving roads. It's a two-parter with Jeremy falling in love all over again with the Gallardo Superlegerra, Richard chasing hard in bright green Porsche GT3 RS and James trapped miles behind in an airconless Aston N24 race car.

This week's star in our reasonably priced car is A-lister Dame Helen Mirren and we also see a welcome, if slightly scorched, return of the Cool Wall. If give away any more details, they won't let us in next week.

Caplax40 10-04-2007 02:29 PM

^^^^^^ Haha James always gets the short end of the stick!

blue8 10-05-2007 05:54 AM

More details:
Quote:

As we take the tyre-warmers off a new series of Top Gear, the wait’s almost over. We’ve got ten whole episodes of excellent-ness ready to unleash on your Sunday night viewing schedule, and you simply won’t believe what Messrs Clarkson, Hammond and May have been up to over the past couple of months.

So, for one night of the week at least, you can banish cookery and home-improvement programmes from your screen and enjoy some good old-fashioned petrol-based fun.

In episode one, we decided to find the finest driving road in Europe. Coincidentally, Lamborghini, Porsche and Aston Martin have recently seen fit to release a brace of new lightweight road-racers in the form of the Gallardo Superleggera, 911 GT3 RS and V8 Vantage N24. To quote Hammond, I think you can see where this is going.

Also in the first programme, Jeremy takes to the test track in an improbably powerful VW Golf, and we put a monarch (sort of) in our reasonably priced car when Dame Helen Mirren comes to visit.

Later in the series, we’ll treat you to a selection of massive challenges and stunts. You’ll see the glorious return of the amphibious cars, in a voyage that makes the crossing of a reservoir look a tiny bit feeble. We put the biofuel we grew last series to seriously good use. And we spend an entire programme in Africa as our intrepid presenters attempt one of our wildly over-ambitious, but cheap, races.

Also: it was massively delayed, gave some of the finest engineering minds in Europe nervous breakdowns, and is too expensive for all but the richest Arab potentates - and that’s just the car. Find out what happened when the Bugatti Veyron met the Eurofighter.

It might surprise you to know we’ve even thrown in some road tests and reviews of the most exciting and interesting cars to hit the road - including the latest Ferrari, Porsche-baiting new Audi R8 supercar and hotly tipped Caparo T1.

So, stop the clocks, silence the dog with a juicy bone and cancel anything you were planning to do on Sunday evenings for the next ten weeks - Top Gear is back!

Sunday 7, 8pm BBC Two

Repeated Wednesday 10, 7pm on BBC Two

At least they got the 599 GTB on the show! The Caparo T1 should also be interesting! Seems to be an astonishing series once again

GRiP_DRiVER 10-07-2007 04:00 PM

aww.... i have to wait for somebody to put up a torrent. I hate this damned country. No good tv shows.

Svensson 10-07-2007 04:12 PM

^ I'm sure Jabba will put it on the http://www.mininova.org/tor/.

That was a very nice episode! The Gallardo SL / GT3 RS / V8 Vantage 24N feature was great... A lot of beautiful shots of the cars on the most incredible roads against amazing backdrops. Unfortunately they focused more on getting the nicest shots than on the actual cars and the driving itself. But perhaps I'm a bit spoilt by Chris Harris's vids where he drives those kind of cars to the limits of grip and beyond :P

pagani 10-07-2007 04:24 PM

I really love the driving roads feature.
If i ever go on a holiday i think will go to the col du turini and the stelvio pass.
That are some proper driving roads.
:D 8)

Jabba 10-07-2007 05:02 PM

Nope there was no HD transmission I am afraid, the main feature will be up in an hour or so (its most of the show hence why its taking so long to upload - over 300 MB) :?

Svensson 10-07-2007 06:00 PM

^ I think Jabba meant that the main feature took up a big part of the whole episode.
I've just timed it and it's over 30 minutes in total (including the "discussion" in the studio before and after the feature).

Just watched the whole episode and must say that was great entertainment!

Caplax40 10-08-2007 12:14 AM

That was a great episode! Top Gear has such high production value. The camera work and how everything is produced is just amazing.

Can someone fill me on on their "Everything is real" comment in the very beginning? I assume they got some flak in regards to their challenges or something?

acmarttin 10-08-2007 03:29 AM

Great episode! Made possible by Jabba. Thanks for covering the backs of those of us who don't get Top Gear on TV!!!

I don't want to spoil the joke but the jab Jezza made at 5th gear made me spit soda. I have a feeling that some JW members close to that final mountain pass are going to be taking a road trip next spring :D

I can't fill you in officially but I have a feeling that you're on the nose about the comment. I have had the feeling that certain aspects of past challenges were set up, but I've gotten really good at just enjoying things lately so it hasn't really bothered me. TG is incredibly entertaining as always :)

grrr .

this would be a JW-drive

pzgren 10-09-2007 04:07 AM

i'm not quite sure which road they took. i'll watch it again and consider the maps afterwards. guess i'll have to drive down there too next spring...

pzgren 10-09-2007 06:10 AM

Davos is only 1,5 hours drive away form where i live, so wouldn't be a big thing to go there for me. maybe the perfect road to test my new car in spring :D

i have a few things in mind. but as i wrote in the other topic i'll buy something new in spring. until then i'll make a few tests rides and find out which will be the best car for me...

i've found some infos about the road:

Passo dello Stelvio is the 2nd highest asphaltic pass in the alps. it's usually open from end of may until november.
the 50km long street over the pass was build from the austrian empire between 1820 and 1826. in WWI between 1915 and 1917 was the Italianfront in this region. there are still parts of military positions to see from this time.
the design of the road is more or less the same since it was build. still today there is the curvy north east ramp from Trafoi with 48 numbered curves.

martin100 10-09-2007 02:05 PM

Great first episode as expected! Nothing to complain about! Old style TG quality! I guess the BBC provided them with more money for this episode alone than Channel 5 for the whole 5th Gear series. And it shows
