The passenger cell appears to be intact but some people say the driver and passenger died due to internal bleeding. If you ask me I think they should be ok.

TT 04-18-2004 12:54 PM

Since you post here I suppose you took the pic yourself. Did you just stumbled upon this terrible scene while driving around?

schnell318 04-18-2004 01:11 PM

A friend of mine saw the wreck friday morning and told me to get my camera and go to the scene since it was a fairly impressive thing (is not everyday here that you see a car like that completely destroyed).

Someone said the driver was drunk

st-anger 04-18-2004 01:55 PM

my heart is bleeding... :( :( :(
seems like the driver´s ok, BUT the car, the car....the Porsche.... noooooooo :x

jon_s 04-18-2004 01:56 PM

The car looks to have protected the people quite well.

It looks like the driver took a corner too fast, lost control and hit a tree/post. The car survived this impact well. However, the car then spun, and the rear of the car then collected another object. I suspect it was this impact that would have done the occupants any harm. The sudden sideways change of direction may have been the killer. Obviously I know nothing, and am probably completely wrong.

What gets on my nerves is the fact that the driver may have been drunk. Obviously that is only speculation, but if it is true, this crash is even sadder than it already is.

(p.s. that blue is really nice!)

ozzman 04-18-2004 02:07 PM

what a coincidence, i had a friend that told me the same thing but i couldn´t see it myself.

You are right, the car understeered and then hit a post then a tree and then several other.
This is what happened to the tree

OMG. Thats sad.
I just hope that people are ok.

How come the passenger airbag did not shoot open ??
It opened halfway only but did not deployed :| :?:

TT 04-18-2004 03:51 PM

At high speed airbags are not engaged.. so maybe it was partially opened because the crash was really bad and that part popped open

SPEEDKILLAR 04-18-2004 03:56 PM

The airbags only work when you have your seatbelt on, don't know if it has anything to do with speed though TT...

SPEEDKILLAR 04-18-2004 03:57 PM

And as for the passenger's airbag, could be a malfuntion...

SPEEDKILLAR 04-18-2004 04:08 PM

^^^^^you sure thamar, I think my Benz dealer told me that its a safety feature,

could you imagine not wearing your seatbelt and on impact getting thrown forward when suddenly your airbag throws you behind, I don't think your neck would survive...

schnell318 04-18-2004 04:37 PM

Of course the passenger airbag did deploy, and as far as I know, airbags stay inflated just for a few seconds. What didn´t deploy was the passenger´s side airbag just the one on the driver´s door did.

alex_jean22 04-18-2004 06:25 PM

Do you know if the speed indicator(don't know the exact word) stop at the speed it was when there is an impact? to show to the policeman the speed the car was going at the moment of the impact or it's just a coincidence on the picture?

schnell318 04-18-2004 06:37 PM

I think the speedometer normally doesn't stop when there is an impact, but anyway police don't give a fuck here in Guatemala about the speed the car was travelling

T-Bird 04-18-2004 06:48 PM

that airbag definitely deployed the damn door is up and the bag is hanging down if you've ever had one open on you or have seen one open they inflate and instantly deflate when something hits it to absorb the force rather than a person hitting an insanely high pressure bag it would almost be like hitting the dashboard. And many cars deploy the airbags no matter what happens with the seatbelt. very few cars have features that don't open the bags, some Mercedes won't deploy the airbags if a child's safety seat is on the though, sort of like some pickup's have the option to turn off the passenger side airbags.

he's fuckin right!!! and u can see one of the pigs on a red uniform.

schnell318 04-18-2004 08:17 PM

Here´s another pic of the inside of the car so you can be sure the airbag did deploy

oscargarza88 04-18-2004 08:53 PM

wow, u have posted some "cool"(in the bad way...) crash pics lately!
and ive notices lately that the speedometer doesnt go down in the wreks... is this supposed to happen?

Zonda11 04-19-2004 12:00 AM

Shit...Sad..when i saw the disc in the first picture, I figured it would be much worse.

Vansquish 04-19-2004 12:36 AM

That's pretty impressive. Must've been going pretty damn fast to mess the car up like that. The Enzo crashes I've seen have looked a lot less bad by comparison, but that's probably a result of the carbonfiber construction instead of monocoque and spaceframe.

Porsche_Cayenne 04-19-2004 09:18 AM

It's incredible. . . probably the car was running fast. . .

damn, it's a Turbo o.O

Well as of what I have seen, speedometers normally go down when there is a crash. In the Audi wreck in Portugal and in this one it didn´t go down and I´m guessing it was because almost all or all the wheels/supension/brakes (sensors??) were taken away from the main structure due to the impact.

SPEEDKILLAR 04-19-2004 12:03 PM

I think I've heard once the speedometers these days, point the speed when the car crashes, not sure though... :?

T-Bird 04-19-2004 06:50 PM

/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\ they have black boxes on alot of newer cars that also record all that information so that it is much easier to find this information such as speed and whether the driver tried to brake or avoid anything.

Data recorders that store at least the last 5 seconds of data have been in use for at least 6 years or so on many cars.

More than you could/would imagine.

Drive4Ever 04-20-2004 10:30 AM

jeez, w/ the trees like that, he must be going fast and torned up the breake assembly, wow.

As far as I know the Audi A3 crash was in Portugal and this accident took place in Guatemala, not exactly Europe
