Vettel will get a ten-place grid penalty following the racing incident with Kubica at the Australian GP 3. Potential for rain this weekend (really hoping for it as Sepang races tend to be boring, downside though is that it won't be a good indicator of how each car would stack against the other) |

McLaren, meanwhile, is still under a cloud of shame over the lying incident. It emerges that Hamilton was instructed by McLaren sporting director Dave Ryan to lie. Ryan has since been suspended. |

|
Wow, Brawn, Toyota and Red Bull continue their good form. McLaren and Ferrari - what's happening? This is turning out to be an interesting series already.
|
Yes things are already very interesting just two weeks into the season. We haven't even gone into 'diffuser three.' Weights of each car following the qualifying session. Brawn GP cars once again qualified heavy.

P1 Button P2 Heidfeld P3 Glock Half points will be awarded as the race did not complete 75% of the 56 laps. |
Stupid race, why did it took them some 40 minuts to decide that the race can't continue? Just wasted my time... And why did they stoped it in the first place, drivers can't race in wet weather anymore? Why bother and bring wet wheather tires to the race day then...
And whats un with the darknes there? If races will be happening that late in the future we might see headlights on F1's... |
Race start moved to late late afternoon (just like Melbourne. Remember the ridiculous shadows) to make for better viewing times for the European audiences.
The Massive front wings will make for great mounting points for the KC Daylighters. There was flooding on parts of the track so having tires of any sort wasn't such a great thing. Maybe some propellers and rudder would have worked better. |
I suspect the full story will emerge tomorrow. Another great result for Brawn, though. Honda must be kicking themselves for quitting the game, now.
|
Plus it was around 6pm already and getting very dark. Still it would have been fun to see if the race continued.
Great performance by Heidfeld! I don't know how he ended up 2nd but he did very well. |
I often feel sorry for Nick Heidfeld. He was much celebrated when he came to F1, and touted as a next-generation McLaren driver, having driven for their Formula 3000 programme. However his junior teammate, Kimi Raikonnen got picked over him, and became world champion. Now, he's being overshadowed by another young gun, Robert Kubica, and everyone think's he's past it. Every success he has will keep critics quiet for that little bit longer and give him confidence for the future.

Hi.
Just so those Europeans can stay in bed a bit longer the races are timed in such a way that a simple rain delay makes it impossible to continue because it gets too dark! So for those European TV watchers' convenience, thousands of locals pay VERY high prices for tickets only to see 30% of a race and a 40-minute "standing party" (those on the rest of the track saw an empty track for 40 minutes!) I could imagine that next year those great stands will be empty. Does F1 actually still care for the people who come to the races, or is it only about television now? Me being in Bangkok, Malaysia and Singapore are the only places where i *could* actually afford to watch a race live..... lucky i didn't waste my money on this farce. Best regards.... Thanh |
For years, ppl has been saying that Brawn is master of Pit stop strategy, I think today is a pretty good showing of that.
|
I think they waited in case weather cleared and they could restart the race. If they hadn't waited and the weather cleared then they would look pretty dumb for not waiting. A restart would have given more racing action for the fans and if they made 3/4ths of the race distance full points for those finishing in the first 8 positions.
On the other hand, it was too dark to safely drive the cars due to the start being set so late in the day. They were dumb to start at 5pm and if they are smart they will at least start at 4 next year. They were in fact lucky the rain didn't start sooner and make them red flag the race before 1/2 distance was made. |
There has been lots of controversy over late starts, but Singapore went the whole hog and simply waited till the sun went down, before lighting the entire strip with spotlights, and that has gone down a treat.
