I know that some of the V8's are much deeper, because you can hear when they pass you - maybe it's just the 4 cylinders.

I think GT4 is a fairly realistc experience. Nothing incredible, but a fun simulation none the less. My main attraction to the game is the vast amount of cars / tracks it contains. No where else can you take the car of your choice on the track of your choice.

I don't know if I would buy a PS2 just for GT4, but it would be close. Go find someone else who has it and give it a couple good runs with a nice wheel. You'll figure out your attraction to it pretty quickly.
