you know a really good one that is nearly impossible to diagnose is the old condom in the gas tank because it floats at the top but then gets sucked down over the pump and blocks it cutting off fuel then you turn the car off and it floats back up, not saying I've ever done that but I've seen it and it sucks major ass.

problem is, the design of GM's fuel pump socks. it'll get caught somewhere around there but out of the way of the pickup. So it'll just not be a factor after a few days.

you could always take the sticky wheel weights and stick them to the drive shaft :D .25 oz should to it

You lot are tempting me too much!

I'll be out of here in a week, so 4th of July weekend will consist of lugging boxes about for me, but then losing a war is not much to celebrate for us Brits!

LMAO!!

well, at least celebrate the fact that you're in a country that allows you to do whatever the fuck you want to your car

That would suck soo much at highway speed they would think their wheel was falling off.

hahaha, yeah. That's what i thought was happening with the Z when the 4 12MM bolts holding the driveshaft to the diff decided to back themselves out :? I was not amused :|

T-Bird 06-24-2005 12:33 AM

the driveshaft is bolted to the differential? I've honestly never heard of that usually they just slide in and stay there.
I had a weight fall off my driveshaft and it was scary as hell luckily it was on the way to school so I used the old strobe balancer they had lying around and some tape a weight until I could actually weld something in place. but I was going balls out not letting some honda pass me before the merge and it freaked me out more than anything.

Unlike the driveshaft that most of our cars use, the gm uses a torque tube thats actually part of the frame.

Id almost prefer that way.. pulling out the bolt and removing the stock rear u joints without dropping out the packing makes my blood pressure rise a bit.. especially without a lift.. They fall out cause the packings not tight and you might as well buy a new packing.

Well I knew how they are on a Corvette but how does that work on the Z3? Their tranny is in the front/middle of the car not the rear like the Corvette.
Torque tubes can be used with the tranny in the front but they are flawed unless you have an independent rear (which I'm sure the Z has but still) I've removed the Torque tube from a C5 before and it wasn't fun.

T - He means the 240ZX I think, not the Z3

duh brain fart time again going on very little sleep the past 3 days (about 5 hours total) you had the Z3 he had the Datsun Z too many fucking Z's
Still I've never heard of a driveshaft being bolted in but Torque tubes yes.

240Z!!!!!

And yes, the flanges bolted together at the differential end. it slid onto the trans output shaft and then bolted to the pinion flange.

Makes it a pain in the ass because it uses a bolt AND nut and there is barely enough room for a wrench :?

TransAm 06-24-2005 07:19 PM

Doh!

Update: Moving to a place called Crowley (just south of DFW metroplex) and it's lovely. I'll post a pic as and when we get settled in. Dang, moving ain't cheap!

ZfrkS62 06-24-2005 07:21 PM
