how about Toronto?

Tomerville 03-17-2004 01:25 AM

Yeah, in NY we need 2 plates. And in NYC at least, they check. Very few states don't require two. Too bad, they can really make your car look ugly :?

PATo355 03-17-2004 02:39 AM

Here is mandatory too , but all supercars do not wear front plate .... anyways its pretty simple cuz its "the f40" or "the f50" or "the purple diablo" , easy to find

in Australia you have to have them on front and back, but or a little extra cash you can get pretty much what ever color you want, even to match your car.

I just got a ticket for not having a front plate on my car, I need to go and get that fixed. The thing that really pisses me off about it is they only want me to have it on there so the stupid cameras at lights will be able to take a pic of it in case I run a red. So they gave me a ticket to fix something so that I can get more tickets. Not only that, they always say stuff like this is just a fix it ticket and it wont cost me anything, but as soon as I go to the police station to show them I put it on, they charge an inspection fee among a few other fees and it seems to vary from station to station. So my ticket that wont cost me any money ends up costing me at least 30 bucks.

I wouldnt be so mad if not having a front plate was an actual fine of 30 or so dollars, but its the fact that they say its no charge yet somehow I end up paying for some shit. Its bullshit.

thankfully we do not need them here in michigan. i hate the way the look on some vehicles. my truck had a plate, but it looked right to be there. (huge bumper) when i bought my acclaim that was the first thing i took off. tacky things...
if you ever look around in the Dodge Viper club forums, theres always a thread about the front license plate. seems that the viper owners go and order a front bracket for the plate from their viper dealer, get the order form paper and keep it in their car so that if they are stopped, you can show them that the mounting is on order, but havent recieved it. i guess you just gotta have an understanding dealership

You have to hae them in the UK, the front has to be the same size as the rear plate, the letters have to be a certain spacing, and size. If not you will get done for it.

If you own an Enzo...you keep a broken plate in the car and say someone kicked it off if you get pulled over.

I asked a cop about it once here in South Dakota and he told me by law we have to use both the licence plates given to us when we register.
i'm guessing that you could just place the front plate right behind the bottom passenger side of the winshield, though, cuz that's where the front dealer paper gets placed before you get real licence plates.
doesn't really bother me that much, though, cuz I dont' exactly drive a supercar yet, and the plates here in South Dakota don't really look that bad anyways.

Yeah, in San Francisco they really crack down on that shit. Can't you just take it to a officer and have him/her sign off on it? That is how we usually do it up here around the Bay Area, never really had to take it into an inspection station.

I never gotten a ticket in Oakland. I have just the OEM black molding for my 328is, but for US cars it came w/ a license plate molding.

Im not sure if you can do that or not. If you can do it in Frisco, im sure ill be able to do it here since its both Cali. I have a friend at school thats a cop, ill ask him, maybe I wont even have to put it on then.

callen 03-20-2004 07:54 PM

mandatory in ontario as well. the reason is its easier for cops to identify the car i think. that may onl y be one of the many reasons, but i think it sucks and fucks the lines of the car. o well.

hemi_fan 03-20-2004 11:36 PM

Yeah, a lot of the times, people just take it to the officer and have them sign off on it. I have this friend that has an exhaust on his car, and he always get ticketed for that shit. But he owns a shop in Chinatown here in Oakland, so he is pretty cool w/ the local cops that walk the beat. Anyways, whenever he gets a ticket, he just have his cop sign off on it, doesn't even have to fix it.

Usually if I remember correctly, it is a $15 fix-it ticket.

kodvaag 03-21-2004 04:54 PM

In Norway you have to have one.
Earlier you could get a small one for the Miata and similar cars, but not anymore...
We have so many speed cameras and toll roads here so the small numberplates are hard to read.

Guess I'll have to engineer a numberplate bracket which will fold the sign at speeds. (spring force vs wind speed) :fist:
