how come it's manual, thought merc diden't make manuals!

Yeah man, they make manuals. Not the best manuals, some say, but they sure make them. I've not seen any MB manuals in the US though, although there are quite a few in England, probably more than 50% of MB's are manual in the UK (When you're paying $7US a gallon, the extra couple of MPG makes it worthwhile!)

In some markets the demand is for automatics only for premium brands which I think is the case in the USA, and maybe Aus as well???
