HP comps come with a recovery disk or what ever its called. Stick it in, reboot and it should format and install the OS that the computer came with and with all the drivers.

If you don't have the disk I suppose you could order it off HP or if you're cheap and happen to have an XP disk handy, all you have to do is stick that in and format the computer. It won't have any drivers specifically for the computer or the settings that the HP disk comes with though.

No - it is piss easy to "wipe it" -- it's the rebuilding and reconfiguration that actually requires a bit of skill and knowledge... :P

And those recovery disks suck ;)
Mostly those things are setup to partition your disk in one piece, and for a big harddisk that's stupid. Unless it's a second one just for storage.

Try and find a normal windows xp, download all your drivers and put'm on a cd and then format the thing.

You can always partition it before hand. There was a way to do it perminantly I believe, but I never bothered. I just have 2 hds.
