This demo was ment to be a press demo, but since it leaked out, SimBin decided to release it publicly. There is only one track (Spa) and you can choose between two cars (Lister and Morgan). File password is "GTR_Press_Demo".

Have already tried the press demo, I think it is great; handling, sound and graphics, although its an early demo. At least its a must-try if you like realistic racing games. Runs great on my computer, which isn't of the fastest; 2 ghz amd w 512 mb ram and 9800pro. Remains to see how it will handle a full field of cars.

i would say that a 9800pro is pretty damn good

Just played it. Its an amazing game. Is it based on the F1 Championship 99-02 engine from EA? It really looks and feels that way. The graphics look great, the physics are extremely realistic and the sound is also great. Do not try to play this game without a racing wheel because it is almost unplayable. You really need all analogue control to get the most out of this game.

Yes it is, didn't mean to complain on my setup, but meant that GTR demo seems to run great without having to have a "top of the line" pc. Wonder if it will be smooth with 56 in the field.

(would not mind an upgrade from my current xp2400+ w 512 mb PC2100 ram though)

Well - I tried it out - awesome - except there is this 78km/h speed limit imposed everywhere.. what option to select to remove this speed governor?

Unless it is just an indication of their poor controller support.. ;)

BTW, I have the game setup to play on the TV out, which is a big screen TV across the room - so I am squinting over at the Game Menus... perhaps I am missing some "novice disable" option to get rid of the 78km/h speed limit (almost like the whole game is treated like the pit lane)

RC45; its the Pit Speed Limiter, I think its "L" by default. If not check in the controller setup screen.

1.2 ghz required.. oh well.. the only thing I have in that speed range is a mac... the cost of being cheap..

That was the ticket - played pretty well on a 1.6ghz, 1mb cache with 1gb RAM and a Geforce FX5600 256mb video adapter... makes you wonder how they make do with such "low end" hardware on the PS2 and XBox... :P

Me thinks the PC developers have a long way to go to learn to get optimal use of the hardware they have on hand... :0

Still a very nice and emersive game.

With a bunch of street and GT cars and the Nurburgring - this game would could keep me busy for a while... (not really into the whole "World Series" multi-circuit racing thing...)

I just played it and it played decently. Uhm the one thing I think is odd is the steering is SO sensitive! even at 0% sensitivity. Shame there is no other cars on the road cuz the 1.2ghz i have runs fine with ONE car...now to see if it will run with more than one...lol

Using the Momo Forcefeed back wheel, set to 100% in-game force and 150% windows driver force it feels really good.

This IS a vast improvement over the original F1 99'02. Feels a lot more real. Especially under braking (though the bouncing effect seems exagerated...)

I run it on a 1,33Ghz AMD, 256Mb, Geforce3 () and it's pretty smooth @ 1024x768 with everything maxed. Obviously with more than one car on track it'll probably be veeeery slow....

(My 1st post:D)

Thanks for the link! :D Actually runs suprisingly well on my laptop- 2.8ghz, 1gb ram, 64mb ati 9000 graphic card, though i don't have a controller so it was quite hard to get used to!

hum... I see... I'll take your word for it...

Anyway, what causes it? Is it just the suspension because of the weight transfer to the front axle under braking?? If so, why does the car bounce instead of just 'diving' and stay that way until the braking is over??

thanks....

The "view" is from the "eyes" of the driver.

Think abouty it... your head is able to pivot and rotate and bounce on your neck - your body is a shock absorber.. there is some "bounce" and "bump" form the suspension and tyres... so the effect you get really is representative of being in a high performance car.

I even set the "apex view" to maximum, so the drivers view moves as you head would, towards the apex of the turn.

Next time you download an incar video that shows the driver, have a look just how much bumping and jostling he/she is subjected to as the car negotiates the track surface... :P

Oh, I always thought it was only due to the car/car setup and not to the effects on the driver...

thanks

Is that the one made by Logitech? I was thinking of buying one. Is it any good? I really think when it comes to sims like this, you NEED a steering wheel. After all, if the physics are realistic, it is a bit silly to try and control a car using a bunch of little arrow keys......

I think I downloaded that game a while ago, might have been an older demo release, but didnt like it that much.

Thanks again...that first demo was pretty challenging to drive quickly (esp. using the keyboard hehe, or for that matter my logitech PS2 steering wheel, sans force feedback unfortunately) but it was fun and the Morgan sounded awesome. Can't wait to see how the new one is.

Yes.

Very good.

Correct.

Played the recent demo last night with my ps2 controller and it was easy to spin out on a simple turn if the gas is mashed to the floor. It was pretty fun once I got used to it, but I think, as with any racing sim, the pedal/wheel is best. It also looks and plays better than the SportsCarChallenge mod to F1 Challenge.

I saw a Brazilian games site saying that it could be the best racing sim ever... but better than Gran Turismo?
I hope not..but only u guys can tell me...

I think this will be very different to Gran Turismo, as it will be more of a hardcore sim. I havent played Gran Turismo, but im under the impression that its a bit more arcade oriented.
