Hey all. The time has come to buy a house for myself and my fiance. I'm selling the corvette and am looking to buy something that goes well in the snow (AWD), has some good power, has some class and luxury, and is easy to upgrade and modify. I have about $24,000 to spend and was looking at getting a 2001 Audi S4 6 speed. Do you all think this is a good chioce?
I know many of you are hung up on the STI and EVO, but they just don't have the interior sophistication that I'm looking for. Any ideas?
Any buyers for the corvette? You can see it better here:

The S4 is for sure a great choice IMO!
I hope you will get good offers for the Vette! Maybe RC could buy it for his little girl :D
BTW; I shortened your longass url ;)

A friend of mine just got a new S4 as a gift from his parents for graduation and he loves it...especially after previously driving a Ford F-150 pickup...I love that car, the only thing that really bothered me about it was that the backseat is really small, I can barely fit. Then again if you have a corvette any kind of backseat would be a plus since the vette has no backseat at all...
And BTW I will try and get some pics of the S4 for you to see this week..

I would rather get a used BMW 540i which will give you quite a bit
of the thrills of driving an M5 for quite a bit less money. And of course
it will be bigger than the S4 which is an important thing to consider
if you are planning on having, or already have, some of those lovely
lumps of protoplasm. :D

He needs a family car now. It may be hard for you to understand
now but eventually you will have a family of your own and will understand
how cars take a bit of a back position when you get a family.

Well, I'd have to say the rear-seat capacity will probably not be very important for quite some time. Baby seats would not be a problem to get in/out with a 4-door, and leg room for infants, even up to like 10 years old wouldnt be a problem in the S4 either (I've sat in an A4 back seat, im assuming they're the same). The S4 would probably be a much better family performance vehicle, especially in the winter as it has better traction, not as noisy, more spacious, probably a bit safer crash wise than the vette, and also it would still be hella fast, so I think that would be an excellent choice to trade your vette for. Man, I admire you for being able to let that corvette go...

Letting the Vette go is one of the hardest things that I've ever had to do. I'll still be upset about it years from now. But it's the practical choice. I need money for a down payment on the house and the Vette can provide that plus enough to get a nice daily driver. I really like the S4 because it's quick, sophisticated, has awd, and is easily upgraded. Having back seats isn't really a factor though. I just like the car. Don't plan on having any kids soon, but the practicality of a 4 door is always nice. Thanks for all your input.

This is really a good decision coloradosilver. :D
I like enormously the B5 Audi S4, you will not be disappointed. I suggest you to do a full RS4 conversion with a 2.7T APR Stage III. The sound of the V6 biturbo is just unbelievable !!!
You need this:

the S4 is the optimal choice for AWD at a decent price, while encompassing luxury. beyond that there is the subaru Legacy turbo coming out this summer...
im sorry your letting the Vette go, and if i had the money, i would jump on that like a pack of wolves on a lone sheep! unfortunately, i dont know anybody buying any new cars for that kind of sticker price... and the only one who is already has a ZR-1 :? good luck with the new house, and fiance!

No!! Don't get a S4! I had a S4 a few years back and the damn turbo blew on me! :x
Of course, it was replaced under warranty, but ever since the turbo blew, I had doubts about its ability to perform again (I'm a big track junky). If you want to modify your S4, you need to replace the turbos with KO4s.
In that price range, I would recommend a E36 M3.
An E36 M3 would be nice, but i think an S4 would be better for his situation, especially if it's going to be driven in the snow. Much easier to tune too. Simply chipping it gives it a lot more power. Turbos do go eventually and i haven't heard to many problems about S4 turbos going prematurely though. I'de go with the S4 all the way! :D
LOL - let's talk about this in 5 years... ;)
You are selling your Vette - What is she sacrificing for the y'alls future?
Basically you are giving up part of yourself for her.. :) this will be awesome ammo when y'all have a big fight. You can bring up "You made me sell my Vette.. blah blah blah... " :D

E36 M3. Sound great, go well, look good, quality interior, dont go wrong. Just aint 4WD i spose, but it would be great fun in the snow!
