...and I am wondering could we have any more stupid or ill-informed non-car guys commentate on an event about cars they really know nothing about - and sound pretty foolish making erroneous statements.

I am sure Alain De Cadenet has to bite his tongue when the "studio hosts" say something pointless...

The best so far : "This car has a nitrous boost shot - that the owner says was only used once.. is that because the boost was so powerful? Alain, what does a boost feel like.."

Uh oh - a '68 Vert Vette is on the block - Let's see what crap they can come up with...

[edit] The '68 L36 Sold for $38,500.00
[edit] a '60 Fuelie just went for $48,000.00

..and both were accompanied by "painful to listen to" commentary... ;)

oh - and the "Saleen 289" that appeared in 2F2F sold in the mid $30K range... what a curse.. ;) being a Saleen Rustang - and having appeared in 2F2F... ;)

I watch that sometimes and the prices there are so stupid for some of the cars especially the old American musclecars as some of them have gone up by 1000% in the past 5 years, it is just the American market driving it as there is nothing special about any of the cars, no carbon fibre, no brakes, no chasis, just a big engine and the same styling on all of them. Sure they were fast but they are just not exciting at all from my point of view, I would rather spend my money on an original 1956 300SL 'Gullwing', but that is just me.

collectability is based on nostalgia. Nostalgia fanned by folks who now have disposable incomes to buy what they dreamt of 30 or 40 years ago... :P

If you have to ask - you won't understand... ;)

Same way people pay "stupid" prices for any old car.. :P

Some of the more expensive cars sold at the auction are because they are very rare. Last year I remember a GT40 going up to around 500,000 dollars. IMO these cars are great and I would consider buying them if I was super rich. But there are some people like robruf who have different tastes and don't like old American cars. I guess it all depends on personal preference.

yeah, i finished watching that an hour ago... i didnt particularly like any of the cars on auction except the 68 vett, and Shelby GT 500 drop top.... even then, drop tops never amuse me very much. at least they were both 4 speed manuels :)

on a side note, what a joke that t bird was (IMO) silly nascar drivers
