I have been lucky in the past few years to have seen all the BMW "1's" on the road.
This is the M1, Z1 cars and K1, C1 motorcycles. I have often wondered which of them has achieved the most.

All were something new and special in their day.
The M1 was an attempt at the GT/Sportscar.
The Z1 a futuristic roadster with plastic body panels.
The K1 I think was the first 'superbike' attempt.
The C1 has the roof and needs no helmet.

I find it hard to choose between the Z1 and C1. I think those do what they are supposed to do perfectly. The Z1's funky retracting doors work. They do not rust, they have an aerodynamic muffler and wing arrangement at the BOTTOM of the rear end and they look great! They are still a great monument to futuristic thinking.

The C1 on the other hand passes car safety tests. It has ABS, needs no helmet and can drive in the rain. The perfect city vehicle? It is practical and looks funky too. So once again it stands out in its class as something fresh and innovative.

What do you think. Which is the best '1' of all?

By the way please do not include the '1' series in this. It does not count and in my opinion - its butt-ugly.
