210 kph here. On a freeway that has a maximum limit of 80 kph. Did it with my old A4 and an old company car - a mitsubishi lancer same year model as the evo3 (im too sleepy to bother checking the year) that had a modified exhaust, quick shift, and a busted limiter.

My then girlfriend was there in the lancer with me - sleeping. lol.

I wish I did take a pic to prove it... I also wish I left earlier (I was driving at around 6am both times) because I would've probably been able to get past 210 withe less traffic bothering me.

The craziest one I've experienced was when me, my dad, my uncle, and Mr. Eibach's rep borrowed Mr. Eibach's (yeah...the one who makes the springs) old AMG C-class in germany...we were on the autobahn and my dad was going pretty quick... basically the speedo's arrow ran out of numbers to count. 8)

...in the rain I might add.

I just don't get it, if i would own such a car, i would not stop at 120mph, i would have to know for sure what the damn thing could do flat out.

And if the place i'dd live would be so speed-sensitive, i would go out on a week night, scout the road first and then take my chances.

The place for determining top speed is on a track, not a public highway, i think. :D

I did my run at 5.30 am with a Testarossa in the lead. The hwy we were on is known for having lots of CHP patrols. I'm speed crazy, not insane, my friend. I thought 120 was good enough. 8)

I do agree with you 100% that the raison d'etre for speedtraps is revenue generation only. Ridiculous. The cops could spend their time better doing other things instead of sitting by the side of the road wasting our tax dollars.

True - and a quick romp up to 150mph or so is really easy to achieve within a mile of entering the freeway... hell - if you entered the freeway "with extreme prejudice you could reach 170 in a mile... not that I would know of course... ;)

Norman,

Thanks for pointing out this site. Stop being a chicken, you little girl! Put it up buddy boy.

This picture is from a drive Norman and I and some other jokers were on. My friend took this picture in my car as a passenger. We touched a little higher, but it's hard to get decent pictures. This is in 5th gear, closing in on redline, slightly uphill.

The car was rock solid.

I just realized it's hard to tell the markers w/o knowing the guages. That's 160mph, so ~255kp/h.

Highest I have ever heard of a Maranello actually doing is 189 (verified by radar). I don't know of any Maranello that has hit the sacred 199 top speed.

Norm: good point. That time I met Ferdi (when he was with Baron ni the Murcie) we touched somewhere around there, possibly higher, on 280 JSO (just south of, police writing on a ticket :D not that I have any...) 92. He was visiting Victor who lives 1 street down from me (so I found out).

Point is, when Ferdi and I ran, he was pulling from me and I was touching past 160 (that was when I took my last brief glance)...redlined 5th and shifted into 6th for about 3 or 4 seconds under WOT. I estimate ~170, with Ferdi doing ~180+

That was the first time I ever met him! :D

fastest ever was downhill in my 355, 300km/h for a few seconds. Unfortunately i don't know if i'm the only one who has this trouble, but the steering does feel a bit light at speed. I guess i don't have the balls to press on for 15 minutes (at top speed) like a couple of my mates. The M3 stays rock solid all the way till 260km/h (speed limiter..damnit.) Besides, Malaysia is pretty cool when it comes to speed limits.

Last night, without really intending to go that fast, at 4.30am, my friend and I decided to stop in the middle of a long freeway and just make a quick run through the gears, traction control off.

I got up to redline 5th gear, doing it subconsciously (I honestly didn't mean to get that fast), but when I shifted into 6th and let off, the speedo read 174mph.

All I have to say is that the car was DEFINETLY pulling still at that speed, and was begging for more. Maybe in a more controlled environment.

Straight line is fairly easy up to about 220. Bends are MUCH more fun!

All speeds seen on the clock in kph:

BMW 325i (1989) - 234
Volvo 850 GLT (1995) - 216
BMW 3.0S (1972 auto) - 195
Volvo 164E (1974) - off clock (0ver 200)
VW microbus (80's 2,1 liter) - +/- 170 with the governor being annoying!

Just for info - As far as I know the official timed speed record for a public road may still be the one set up in 1939 by caracciola(Mercedes) and rosemayer(Auto Union) at around 268mph - 430kph.

It was a sad day as Rosemayer died later that day when the car rolled at over 400kph...

140 MPH four times on I-10 in Texas, Arizona and New Mexico. My car (Audi S4) is speed limited at 142 mph. Otherwise it would hit 155 mph me thinks...

I-10 is perfect place to test top speeds - there are sparsely populated sections of it with arrow straight roads and you can see ahead for miles at a time - all necessary to make sure that you hit warp speed safely.

I10 has to be one of th emost boring roads in the world. I drove from Houston to SF via 10 into LA and then up (22 hours straight in a 330i that was misfiring due to modified cams - we were lucky to hit 85-90mph, it was lowered, stiff as HELL, and we split a rim in AZ, which cost us 3 hours) - i wanted to shoot myself it was so boring. And I drove the whole way in my friend's car, who played passenger / navigator (not like there was a lot to navigate...keep going W forever). He did time hte gas-stops perfectly, though.

I10 has to be one of th emost boring roads in the world.

I agree - the only good thing is that it is smooth and straight - good for a top speed run. But boring with a capital B - I had 100 times more fun going 60 mph on the curves in Highway 17 than 140 mph on I10..

My mothers friend (with me inside) did about c.a. 280 - 290 km/u in his Jaguar

What jag is this :? - I thought all Jags were restricted to 155mph worldwide - unless you went in an XJ220???

203kmh......from Pickering to the Mississauga (about 50km at 2AM)
Hyundais aren't very reliable, Elantra blew two injectors
mean time ML500 probably smoked me by 50

perhaps i shoulda worded my original post a bit more carefully i thought most woulda realised it was a joke (except there are some pedantic pricks on this forum who are a bit quick to jump the gun)

I was going to simply reply that I got the joke - hence the emoticons in my post - so take a deep breath there chap - but I have decided against that polite reply - simply because you seem like a bucket of shit.

*sigh* If any of you 2 could drive as well as you could trade stupid insults...
I can only assume you have no patience while driving either?
Take a step back - think - and decide if it is in any way constructive saying something.

Weeeell... My point being that surely after your comment on moan786's initial post, which in my opinion was unbrooked provocation, even if he replied with a really mild, if condescending, note - did not require any reply as the whole situation is obvious. Does it really matter if he misinterpreted your reply? 8).

And then you attack him in return to his reply with a worse insult. Where does this end? I like a good debate as much as anyone - if the content is worth debating about. But then again - being a moderator of a potentially controversial forum dealing with american cars - maybe you have had so much of this kind of silly post that your are completely fed up with it?

So no insult intended to anyone here. I just think your last reply post was made in haste and not worth it.
What do you think? And of course - I'd prefer a PM as reply as I am sure no-one following this thread (including me) wants to read posts so far removed from the topic. 8)
