"The Lamborghini Murciélago R-GT returned to the track this weekend at the FIA GT championship in Valencia for its first race of 2004 and quickly displayed promising form among strong competition.

Development drivers, Oliver Gavin and Peter Kox, both produced strong performances from the car in the practice and qualifying sessions and the team will line up fifth on the grid for tomorrow's race.

The extensive development work undertaken by Reiter Engineering over the winter was immediately evident with the No.29 Lamborghini Murciélago R-GT posting the fifth quickest time in the first practice session on Friday in heavy rain conditions.*

Set up changes for the afternoon improved the car further, resulting in Dutchman, Peter Kox, posting the fastest time of the day in the second session, as the heavy rain continued.

In the first qualifying session the Lamborghini Murciélago R-GT proved to be as strong in the dry as it is in wet conditions, with this new sports racing car finishing third fastest with a lap of 1 minute 32.537, just over one second behind the provisional pole sitter.*In the second session, although the team was unable to improve on their morning times, they continued to gain valuable data for the race.

The Lamborghini Murciélago R-GT, jointly developed by Automobili Lamborghini and Reiter Engineering utilising the expertise of Audi Sport, is eligible for racing in FIA GT and ACO-governed series and cars are currently being preparing for competition in championships around the world. The car, together with a customer support programme, has been designed to provide an exciting, but affordable, customer racing package.

The duo of Peter Kox and Oliver Gavin last drove for Reiter Engineering in the final round of the FIA GT championship in 2001, racing in a Lamborghini Diablo R-GT and finishing fifth on that occasion.
*
Peter Kox

"For me the car is as fast as we expected, it is a big step forward, and our fifth place on the grid shows just how much development has been put into the car. Most of the car's development was done over the winter and we were not so lucky with the weather, so we have had more wet weather experience than dry.

"This weekend, in the dry, we have been able to identify more areas of improvement including the handling of the car, and there is a lot of potential in the car which we're gradually exploiting.*For tomorrow, we're optimistic and will try to go as quickly as possible and have a good race."

Oliver Gavin

"We're heading in the right direction with the set up of the car, although I found that the car in the dry was more unstable on entry into the corners. The traction was still very good, but, of course, we still have to work on things.*

"We've been working with different set up options and in the afternoon, I think we did go in the right direction, perhaps this wasn't reflected in the times, but this maybe due to minor tyre issues, which should be resolvable.

The plan for tomorrow is to have as good a race as possible and to stay clean in the first few laps. It is very important to finish, and it will be a race of attrition, so we need to be there at the end.*We know what we need to do, and the team will work hard tonight to be ready for another big test with this development programme, the first long-distance race for this car."

Manfred Fitzgerald, Lamborghini Marketing Manager

"Before coming here if someone had told me we would be fifth fastest I would not have thought this or expected it. It has been a very positive start to the weekend, especially when we were fastest yesterday.

"Over the last two days we've proved that we have a highly competitive car. The level of competition is exceptionally high, so for us to be on the pace so quickly is particularly encouraging. Tomorrow it will be a long race, which we aim to finish, and finish well, to further prove the potential of the car.""

"18 April 2004…/The Lamborghini Murciélago R-GT entered the history books today, with the first ever podium finish for a Lamborghini in an international motor racing event. The third place finish for the Lamborghini Murciélago R-GT at the FIA GT championship in Valencia, Spain, was the race debut for this new sports racing car, and demonstrated its performance potential against strong competition.

The Lamborghini Murciélago R-GT has been developed over an intensive nine-month period, which has taken this new sports racing car from the drawing board to a podium finish. The race weekend saw the car impress rivals with consistently strong performances in practice and qualifying sessions, lining up fifth on the grid and leading the race and finally finishing a creditable third.

Manfred Fitzgerald, Marketing Manager, Automobili Lamborghini, sums up the early success of the race programme saying, "We set out to build, develop and race the Lamborghini Murciélago R-GT in less than a year, and prove its performance potential for prospective customers. We have worked hard to achieve this, but the results speak for themselves – we have produced a highly competitive car for today’s international sports car racing series.

"The Lamborghini Murciélago R-GT has shown its reliability, consistency and the strong performance we needed to have for delivering to our customers a car that we are proud of, and we are moving forward with our customer programmes which will see this car compete around the world."

Developed jointly with renowned race engineering company Reiter Engineering in Germany, and the expertise of parent company Audi’s sports division Audi Sport, the Lamborghini Murciélago R-GT will offer Lamborghini clients a highly competitive car with which to participate in global professional motorsport.

Ends."

Reiter Engineering, with the new Lamborghini Murciélago R-GT, put in a magnificent performance in Valencia, and without a long second pit-stop, could have fought for the overall win. Peter Kox and Oliver Gavin finished in third place, to give Automobili Lamborghini its first international podium.

"I'm very pleased! " Peter Kox said afterwards. "To come in third in their first race here is an amazing result for Lamborghini. It's good to drive with Ollie, who's a really good driver and has done a great job here."

"I really enjoyed the weekend very much," Oliver Gavin continued. "There have been a few issues with the car, but that's normal for a new car. It certainly has a great potential, and we will work very hard to improve it. Third is a great result, if you consider that this is our first race and that we didn't have a lot of testing. When I got into the car at the second pit stop, I must have hit a fuse and it took a while to sort that out. That has possibly cost us the win! We had a bit of a lead then, and we would have been just as fast as the Ferraris, but maybe not as consistently."

Manfred Fitzgerald, Marketing Manager of Automobili Lamborghini, was also delighted. "We hope that we will have a client program running in the Championship by mid-season," he explained. " However, It is not only up to us, it is also up to the clients. This was a major step of the whole programme. We proved the car in the wet and in the dry; the performance is there, and we have showed that our car is reliable. Since Lamborghini exists, it has never been on the podium in an international race, so this is an historic moment for us."

STOKELL & LAMBORGHINI ROMP TO FIRST-LEG WIN IN NATIONS CUP ROUND

15/5/2004:
MELBOURNE – Defending Australian Nations Cup Champion Paul Stokell boosted his lead in the 2004 series with a flag-to-flag win in his Lamborghini Diablo in the opening race of round three at Sandown International Motor Raceway today.

Stokell led the field from pole position and was unchallenged in the 16-lap event, while Nathan Pretty, in a Holden Monaro, and Allan Simonsen, in a Ferrari 550 Maranello, battled each other for the entire distance.

Simonsen eventually beat Pretty to second place and Peter Brock came fourth in another Holden Monaro.

The Nations Cup was one of three races on day one of the PROCAR Champ Series program at the track in Melbourne’s south-eastern suburbs.

Holden GTS driver Peter Floyd won the Australian GT Performance race and Damien White, in a Holden SS utility, took the V8 BRutes Series race and the lead in the points table.

Tomorrow’s program features a further 13 races for the Nations Cup, GT Performance, V8 BRutes, Production Cars, Porsches and Futureracers, plus a trackside Ute Muster.

Stokell last raced the Lamborghini at Sandown in 2002, when he won the Sandown 500 with co-driver Anthony Tratt.

Today he was equally dominant, pouring on the pace in the big black Italian coupe to slash 1.3 seconds from Jim Richards’ two-year-old lap record.

Pretty, with the Bathurst 24-Hour Monaro in its best form so far this season, slotted close behind Stokell at the rolling start but soon was defending his position from Simonsen.

The young Dane squeezed his Ferrari past in a clean, copybook move on lap four but said later poor suspension set-up had hindered any pursuit of Stokell.

Stokell now has 197 championship points, Pretty is second with 164 and Simonsen third with 102.

Melbourne driver Peter Floyd scored Holden’s first win of the GT Performance season, leading all the way from second on the starting grid.

In a field featuring nine different makes, Floyd’s 400 horsepower Holden clearly had an advantage on Sandown’s long straights, but there were close contests throughout the rest of the top 10.

Ric Shaw could not sustain his Mazda RX-7’s pole-winning speed over the race distance and slipped gradually to seventh.

Justin Hemmes made the best of the start in his all-wheel drive Subaru Impreza, rocketing from fourth on the grid to second, but then lost his place first to Shaw and then Stokell.

Hemmes finished third and increased his lead in the points standings over Mitsubishi driver Garry Holt.

John Falk, in a Ford Falcon TE50, got the better of Holden GTS driver Steve Cramp from South Australia, after a close race-long contest.

Tomorrow, the GT Performance teams afce a 26-lap, double-points race with a compulsory pit stop.

Team Brock Holden drivers Damien White and Benn Wilson took an impressive 1-2 in the first V8 BRutes Series race of round three.

The pair had qualified second and third behind fellow Holden driver Gary Baxter, but started down the field after a ballot to decide grid order.

Pole winner in the ballot Matt O’Grady (Holden) was swamped at the start as South Australians Charlie Kovacs and Chris Smerdon swapped the lead over the first few corners.

However, the Holden-mounted pair collided just after Kovacs hit the front on lap two. Both ran off the track and Smerdon retired as White and Wilson surged past.

The Team Brock drivers ran in close formation for the rest of the 12-lap race, with Marcus Zukanovic third outright and the first of the Ford runners.

In qualifying for tomorrow’s two Australian Production Car Championship races, defending Scott Loadsman in a Commodore SS took pole position.

However, his effort was overshadowed by Newcastle school student Drew Russell, who at only 15 years old set the second-fastest time in a Honda S2000.

Yeah he has been winning races with Lamborghini the past couple of seasons and last year he finally won the title. The Holden that races in the Nations Cup is a one off non road car with the Corvette Lemans engine, soo its not really a production car as with the other cars in the series. Its sorta to get the locals coming to the events but most know its really cheating the fans...

"We are still learning the new car as a new team. The car was prepared one week before the race so any good result will be a bonus for us".The drivers for the car are first driver Kuala Lumpur-based Genji Hashimoto, who is also owner of Team Amprex Motorsports and their new driver, Norman Simon who has been racing internationally for many years including F3, F3000 and also 24hrs Le Mans."Our experience first driver Hashimoto is familiar with Japan GT, having participated in the GT300 class while Norman though young is quick and was test driver for Lamborghini".Hong said the car was built according to FIA regulations and had to get special approval from Japan Automobile Federation (JAF) to race in the Japan GT Championship. "We cannot modify the car to Japan GT specification. Obviously there is a big difference technically where the FIA rules will have a disadvantage on the car." "For example in terms of engine power, our car might be better than the top teams like Toyota, Nissan and Honda but will loose out in the cornering speed because of the aerodynamic and suspension layout".Hong said the ultimate target for the team, which has five Malaysian mechanics, is to participate in the 24hrs of Le Mans next year, which is the greatest endurance race of all time. "We want to make history for a Malaysian team to participate in this event. Many Japanese teams have been there for some time but definitely none from Malaysia."He said the team had participated in Japan in 2002 and 2003 with a different car and in the GT300 class and will continue to participate in this championship this year but in the GT500 class. There are seven rounds in JGTC remaining, all to held in Japanese circuits except the race in Sepang."Our main reason for participating is to test and develop the car further while racing. Sometime in August this year we are intend to do a 24 hours endurance test to prepare ourselves for the 24 hours of Le Mans next year, as we need to prepare the car for a longer distance race".After two rounds in Japan, Toyota are leading both categories in the Japan GT championships with the Cerumo Supra partnership of Yuki Tachikawa and Seiji Ara heading the GT500 class and the Wedsport Celica duo of Takayuki Aoiki and Nobuteru Taniguchi topping the GT300 class. In Round 1 (Aida-April 3 and 4) and Round 2 (Sugo-May 22 and 23), chilly, misty and wet tracks were the order of the races. In Sepang, which has hosted three Japan GT races since 2000, the hot and steamy tropical weather with temperatures at the track leading to 40 degrees will have an effect on the performance of both drivers and cars participating. However the race will start at 5 p.m. on Saturday, June 19 with the temperature a few degrees cooler. The remaining Japan GT 2004 schedule will also include, Round 4 (Tokachi Speedway - July 17 and 18 ), Round 5 (Twin Ring Motegi - Sept 4 and 5), Round 6 (Autopolis Ota - Oct 30 and 31) and Round 7 (Suzuka Speedway Mie - Nov 20 and 21).

TEAM AMPREX MOTORSPORTS ENTERS ROUND 3 OF JAPAN GT CHAMPIONSHIP 2004 WITH NEW TEAM AND CAR

Malaysian-based team Amprex Motorsports today (Sunday, June 13) launched their new team and car, a Lamborghini Murcielago R-GT for their entry in the GT500 class in Round 3 of the Japan GT Championship 2004 beginning at Sepang Circuit on June 18 & 19 2004.

20.06.2004 PAUL STOKELL CLAIMED THE OPENING AUSTRALIAN NATIONS CUP HEAT AT WINSTON TODAY IN HIS LAMBORGHINI DIABLO, BUT TWO WINS FOR HOLDEN'S RICHARD PRETTY HAS CLOSED DOWN THE CHAMPIONSHIP GAP.

Holden Monaro driver Nathan Pretty boosted his chase for the Australian Nations Cup Championship with a double victory in round four at Winton Motor Raceway today.

Pretty, driving for the Garry Rogers Motorsport team, won two of three races in cold and damp conditions to narrow the gap to series leader Paul Stokell to 34 points after four of eight rounds in the 2004 championship.

Stokell won pole position and today’s first race, but Pretty was confident the Monaro would deliver the goods again after winning the round here last year.

“This is our second round win of the season and it’s great to do it here on my home track,” said Pretty, from Albury-Wodonga. “We’re now well and truly in with a chance to challenge Paul for the championship and I’m looking forward to the fifth round at Eastern Creek next month.”

While Stokell ran away with the first Nations Cup heat, the highlight was an eight-lap battle for third place between David Stevens' Porsche GT2 and a pursuing Peter Brock, in the first race for his new 7.0 litre Monaro. Charging up from 10th on the grid, Brock tried everything to pass the Porsche but was unsuccessful.

In race two, he made sure the Porsche was behind by the first corner and then focused his attack on Stokell in second spot, passing him briefly on the third lap. Stokell had surrendered the lead to Pretty around the same time and appeared content to sit back until late in the race. The pace built as Pretty, then Brock then Stokell recorded fastest lap times.

Three corners short of the flag, Stokell had the Lamborghini’s low nose wedged literally under the the tail of the Pretty Monaro but he could not convert the move into a pass and the Holden scored the win.

Brock came home strongly in third and as a result would have been in a good position for race three, but for a wrong tyre choice. The Monaro appeared to be the only car running dry tyres on a wet track and Brock worked hard to take fifth place.

Pretty won the race from Stokell by 15 seconds, with Allan Simonsen third in his Trophy class Ferrari Challenge and Ian Palmer fourth in Brock’s previous Monaro. Simonsen consistently raced among the outright cars throughout the weekend and wrapped up the class round win.

Round five of the PROCAR Champ Series will be at Eastern Creek circuit, near Sydney, on 16-18 July.

20.06.2004 THE JAPANESE GT CHAMPIONSHIP'S ITALIAN CONTINGENT WAS SWELLED WITH THE ARRIVAL OF THE AMPREX LAMBORGHINI MURCIELAGO R-GT, AS THE SERIES HEADED OVERSEAS TO MALAYSIA THIS WEEKEND.

The Japanese GT Championship's Italian contingent was swelled to three as the series headed overseas to the Sepang International Circuit this weekend. Forty two cars arrived at the home of the Malaysian Grand Prix to take part in yesterday's 54-lap race around the 5.542 km track.
Malaysian outfit Amprex Motorsport took delivery of a customer Lamborghini Murcielago R-GT just in time to make a series debut at their home race. They were joined by a second Murcielago R-GT, run by Team JLOC, which briefly appeared in practice last time out at Sugo, and the Hitotsuyama Racing-run Prodrive-built Ferrari 550 Maranello.
With the first qualifying session hit by driving rain, the three teams, all struggling to get their evolving machines onto the pace, were left with only the second warm, dry session to fully prepare for what was to be a hot, dry race.
The brand new Michelin-shod Amprex Motorsports Murcielago R-GT, piloted by newcomer Norman Simon, led the way, his 2:05.056 fastest lap, just five seconds off pole position. Two places further back, and bringing up the rear of the GT500 field, came the similar car run by Team JLOC, which in the hands of Koji Yamanishi and Wada-Q, posted 2:10.571 best.
In the middle of this Murcielago sandwich was the Dunlop running Hitotsuyama Racing Ferrari 550 GTS Maranello, lining up 17th. At the front GT500 pole went to the Calsonic Nissan Z which set an unbeatable 2:00.16, just ahead of the two Tom's Toyota Supras, while in the GT300 class, the JIM Rodeo Drive Ferrari 360 driven by Hideshi Matsuda and Ichijyo Suga, could only managed 10th place, four slots ahead of its sister car.
After starting down in 13th place, the Denso Sard Toyota Supra GT pulled off a brilliant win following an intense battle in blistering Malaysian heat. The car had been quick throughout the weekend, lead driver Jeremie Dufour setting the fastest in time the wet first official qualifying session on Friday morning. The second session had been a completely different story however, as their hard-compound tyres slowed the car to the seemingly unlucky number 13 spot in the warmer conditions of the afternoon session.

Further back the Amprex Murcielago R-GT fared very well in its first ever race. After starting from 15th, Genji Hashimoto and Norman Simon, steadily all the way to the flag to be classified 12th overall, three laps behind the winner. It was pretty impressive considering the car had to make an unscheduled pit stop early on.

Contrastingly, the Team JLOC Murcielago RG-T, running on Dunlop compounds, was plagued by the same woes that had afflicted the black supercar during the morning's warm up session. A broken left rear suspension unit after 20 laps stranded the car out on track. It was an identical repeat of a fault first seen earlier in the day.
Fourteenth overall, and also three laps adrift, came the Ferrari 550 Maranello piloted by Hidetoshi Mitsusada and Tado Uematsu, while back in the GT300 class, the JIM Ferrari 360 Modenas crossed the line in fifth and ninth places.
Meanwhile, in mid December the JGTC will travel to the US for a one-off non-championship race at the Fontana Speedway in California, which will see the series' top 25 cars take on local entries. The event, known as 'GT Live', will also include a "JGTC Against The World" team time attack competition in which the top 6 finishers of the race on Saturday compete against 6 top cars from around the world.

26.06.2004 THE OPENING TEST SESSION AT MID-OHIO SAW THE FIRST ON-TRACK ACTION FOR TWO CARS THAT HAVE ATTRACTED A GREAT DEAL OF ATTENTION IN THE PADDOCK, THE KROHN-BARBOUR LAMBORGHINI MURCIELAGO R-GT RACERS!!!

James Weaver unofficially smashed the existing American Le Mans Series track record as he led Friday's test session for Sunday's American Le Mans at Mid-Ohio race at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.

Weaver, driving the Dyson Racing Lola EX257-AER/MG that he will share with Butch Leitzinger, turned the 2.25-mile circuit in a time of 1:13.448, faster than the official ALMS track record of 1:14.169 set by Frank Biela the last time the series raced at Mid-Ohio in 2002. Drivers will try to officially break the record in qualifying that will be held Saturday.

Only .199 second behind and also faster than the record was the ADT Champion Racing Audi R8 of JJ Lehto and Marco Werner at 1:13.647, followed by the second Dyson entry of Chris Dyson and Andy Wallace at 1:14.686.
Yesterday's test session saw the first on-track action for the two cars that have attracted a great deal of attention in the Mid-Ohio paddock, the Lamborghini Murcielago R-GT machines of Krohn-Barbour Racing.

David Brabham, Peter Kox, Scott Maxwell and Tracy Krohn ran their first laps in the cars yesterday. The new racing team only took delivery of the two cars this week from car builder Reiter Engineering in Germany.
The two-hour testing session ended 10 minutes early due to a crash between turns nine and ten involving the Murcielago of Tracy Krohn and the GT class Flying Lizard Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3 RSR of Lonnie Pechnik. Though neither driver was injured, the session was brought to a halt due to the time required to pick up the cars and the debris from the crash.

The Flying Lizard car was damaged beyond repair and the team will replace it for this race with a 2003 Porsche 911 GT3 RS, while the Lamborghini team was still trying to effect repairs.

"The car picked up a little push and I ran wide onto the curbs," said Krohn. "I was coming back off the curbs onto the racing line when I felt a thump; I don't know where he (Pechnik) came from, it's kind of blind there anyway. After that the car half-spun."

"When I saw the Lamborghini with two wheels off the track on the fast downhill, I moved as far right as possible," said Pechnik. "The Lamborghini came across the track and took us into the guardrail.

"It really is a shame; the team worked extremely hard to prepare no44 and have done a spectacular job. The R-GT will not be quite as competitive but we are looking forward to getting back into competition."
After qualifying today decides the grid order, the GTS runners have a 30 minute single session in which to chase a grid position around the 2.258-mile Mid-Ohio Sportscar Course at Lexington, the 2 hour 45 minute race then starts tomorrow at 1pm local time.
GTS Friday practice times from Mid-Ohio: 1st GTS/5th Overall Oliver Gavin and Olivier Beretta, Chevrolet Corvette C5-R (GTS), 1:20.017, 2ndGTS/7th Overall Ron Fellows and Johnny O'Connell, Chevrolet Corvette C5-R (GTS), 1:21.232, 3rdGTS/8th Overall Terry Borcheller and Johnny Mowlem, Saleen S7R (GTS), 1:21.245. 4thGTS/10th Overall David Brabham and Peter Kox, Lamborghini Murcielago R-GT (GTS), 1:23.773, 5thGTS/11th Overall Scott Maxwell and Tracy Krohn, Lamborghini Murcielago R-GT (GTS), 1:24.118, 6thGTS/12th Tom Weickardt and Jean-Philippe Belloc, Dodge Viper GTS-R (GTS), 1:24.531.

27.06.2004 KROHN-BARBOUR GAVE THEIR NEW LAMBORGHINI R-GT A PROMISING COMPETITION DEBUT IN YESTERDAY’S ALMS QUALIFYING AT THE MID-OHIO SPORTS CAR COURSE.

The all-new Krohn-Barbour Racing team gave one of the world’s most glamorous sports car marques, Lamborghini, a promising competition debut in yesterday’s timed qualifying for round two of the American Le Mans Series (ALMS) at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.

Krohn-Barbour Racing’s Lamborghini Murciélago R-GT, driven by sports car stars David Brabham and Peter Kox, goes to the start of today’s 2-hour 45-minute race after running faultlessly in yesterday's timed track session and Friday’s non-competitive test runs. In long-distance sports car racing, reliability is often as important as pace.

Team manager Dick Barbour, successful since the late-1970s as both a sports car team owner and driver, said: “The Lamborghini is completely new, straight-out-of-the box, yet it’s given us no problems at all. That’s a great start, because the more uninterrupted track time we can get with the car, the more we can learn about how to set it up for optimum performance.”

The number five Lamborghini of Brabham and Kox lapped the twisting 2.25-mile Mid-Ohio track in 1min 21.695 sec, at an average speed of 99.5mph, putting it fifth among the GTS class runners. The class-leading Corvette turned a best time of 1min 18.622 sec.

Barbour said: “We’re not as fast as the class-leaders, but at this stage in the game we didn’t expect to be. The Corvette’s been racing for five years, the Lamborghini has raced only once [in an FIA GT race in Valencia, Spain, this April]. But every time we run the car we take another step forward.”

Krohn-Barbour Racing’s second Lamborghini race car, driven by team co-founder Tracy Krohn and Canadian Scott Maxwell, was unable to participate in today’s timed qualifying because of accident damage sustained Friday.

Just ten minutes before the end of a 90-minute test session, with Krohn at the wheel, the number six Lamborghini ran wide through a turn, bumping along the curbs at the circuit’s edge; as Krohn steered the car back towards the ideal ‘racing line’, it was hit hard by a following Porsche 911 GT3. Both cars half-spun to a halt. The blow taken by the Lamborghini was severe enough to damage its right rear suspension and chassis. The car will miss tomorrow’s (Sunday’s) race and probably also next weekend’s (July 2-5) third round of the ALMS at Lime Rock, Connecticut.

Krohn, who escaped the impact unhurt, shrugged it off: “It’s disappointing, but this kind of thing happens in racing. A photographer who saw the collision said he knew it was the team owner in the car when I got out and started picking up all the pieces!”

On a more serious note, Krohn said later: “I’m quite new to racing, but I know what it takes to win in business, and racing’s no different. We’ve gathered the best people we can and we’ve made a serious commitment with this team. There’s a lot of work ahead of us, but we’re not afraid of that.”

Kox commented: “If we were slower than the class leaders but didn’t know how to improve the car, we’d have a problem. But we have lots of ideas how to go faster, which really encourages us.”

Looking ahead to tomorrow’s race, Brabham said: “At the moment we’re just throwing what we can at the car [in suspension set-up] to see what it does. Every time we go out there we learn something. With a car this new, we’ll be happy to reach the finish.”

Lamborghini comes close to debut podium.
http://www.crash.net/pictures/thumbs/97868.jpg
In a tense battle, fought all the way to the finish line at Mid-Ohio, the Krohn-Barbour Racing Lamborghini Murciélago R-GT proved that the reliability seen over the opening two days of competition was no fluke.

Peter Kox and David Brabham missed out on a third place finish by just 0.679secs after two hours and 45 minutes of racing, having challenged more established runners throughout. The race, round two of the 2004 ALMS, marked the first appearance of the Krohn-Barbour team and the US race debut of the Lamborghini, but that didn't stop the newcomers from threatening an upset.

The crew qualified in fifth place in the GTS class, and moved up to third early in the race as Kox drove a strong first stint. Helped by the rival Saleen S7R of Terry Borcheller and Johnny Mowlem - the car that Brabham had shared at Sebring - enduring a lengthy pit-stop and then going off track following a door-banging episode with one of the two pace-setting Corvettes, the Lamborghini consolidated its position by the time the drivers changed over.

“I tried to get a reasonable, consistent pace, so that we could keep learning about the car," Kox said, "I wasn't pushing 100 per cent because, at that stage in the race, there was no point. What we needed most with a brand-new cars was miles and a finish.”

Brabham drove the Lamborghini for the remaining 90 minutes of the race, staying in the car during its second scheduled pit-stop. With 35 minutes of the race to go, the Saleen was just 30secs behind and closing fast enough to be right on the Aussie's tail in the final ten minutes. Brabham picked up his pace, driving the car 'as hard as I could', but revealed that the Italian car 'was not very nice on the edge, because we still have to sort its handling'.

Brabham held onto third place until just three minutes from the chequered flag, when the Saleen was in his mirrors.

“As soon as he caught me, I knew he'd pass," the sportscar veteran admitted, "The Saleen's much quicker on the straights and better on the brakes.”

Despite falling to fourth, Brabham thrilled the crowd by immediately fighting back, twice closing up on the Saleen as it caught slower cars on the last lap. At the line, however, the Lamborghini was denied third place by less than seven-tenths of a second. The two GM Racing Corvettes of Ron Fellows/Johnny O'Connell and Oliver Gavin/Olivier Beretta - pre-race favourites in the GTS class - claimed first and second places, and third and fourth overall.

“It's not being beaten to third place that bothers me, it's being beaten to first!" team manager and co-founder Dick Barbour commented, "This team is here to win, although we all know we've got a lot of hard work ahead of us. But the team performed really well at its first event and, from taking delivery of two cars in the week, we went out there and finished an international sportscar race. Lamborghini's built a very beautiful car and now we have to start development work on it.”

The second Krohn-Barbour Racing Murciélago R-GT, to be driven by Scott Maxwell and team co-founder Tracy Krohn, was unable to start the race because of damage sustained in Friday's test session at the Mid-Ohio circuit, when it was in collision with a Porsche 911 GT3.

Travelling at 30,000 feet in the big jumbo taking me to the States, my thoughts were on how the new Lamborghini Murcielago R-GT was going to be.

I was visualising the look of the car and how I might be sitting in it. I found myself getting excited at the prospect of a new car and a new team - although it's not like I am new to this, as it has happened a lot in my career, I still get a buzz from it.

When I arrived, I was taken aback by the way everything looked. The trucks were brand new, the team kit looked great, the car looked gorgeous. If looks were anything to go by, we had already won!

The other thing to note was the amount of interest there was in the Lambos. The back of the garage was always full of people trying to get a look at the sleek new arrival. There were photos, questions about the car - it was great to see such enthusiasm about our new team. I was getting so many questions about the car even before I had managed to do a lap, all I could say was 'I don't know yet, it just arrived and it hasn't turned a wheel'....

Practice didn't go that well as the #6 car driven by team owner Tracy Krohn ended its first lap in a crash. Tracy got a bit wide on one of the corners and then a Porsche appeared and they hit each other. The damage was bad for both cars, but the #6 Lambo wasn't going on the track again as a new rear end had to be put on.

Our car went really well for the first run, however, and it was a relief to see the car going round and round. With a new car, it is important to have no problems as we need as much time on the track as possible.

Qualifying was up to me as I knew the beautiful Mid-Ohio track, and my team-mate, Peter Kox, didn't. I went quicker than I thought I could, but we were still three seconds slower than the 'Vettes. We expected to be slow as this was a brand new car, but you are always disappointed at any gap.

The goal for the race was to finish. This we did, and we ended a successful debut event in a dice with the ACEMCO Saleen that I had driven at Sebring.
Peter started the race and, while we knew we were not going to challenge the 'Vettes or the Saleen for a position, we had a plan to drive safe but as fast as we could. Things were looking good for an easy race as the car was running well - until the Saleen was held in the pits for some problems. Then the pressure was on, because a third place was there for the taking.

Johnny Mowlem, my mate, was behind me when the Saleen rejoined - and he was on a mission. I knew he would catch me, but I was staying in front of him longer than I thought I would. It got to five minutes to go and he was right on my tail. I tried what I could to keep him there, but Johnny just drove past me on the straight and out-braked me at the next corner. We still have steel brakes on the Lambo, while he had carbon brakes, so he had the advantage.

To be honest, I was pretty pissed afterwards, as a podium would have been great for the team. Still, it was a great result with a new car - and the team were amazing. Now, it's on to Lime Rock for the next one.

RELEASE IMMEDIATE 24 JULY 2004

The hard-working determination of the Krohn-Barbour Racing pit crew made it possible for the team’s two Lamborghini Murciélago R-GTs to participate in this afternoon’s timed qualifying runs for tomorrow’s Portland Grand Prix, fifth round of the American Le Mans Series, despite both cars sustaining damage in a freak double-accident earlier in the day.

Misfortune struck the two-car team twenty minutes into this morning’s one-hour practice session at Portland International Raceway, Oregon, when the number 6 Lamborghini of Tracy Krohn spun approaching the tight chicane on the Start/Finish straightaway. Team-mate David Brabham was following right behind in the number 5 Lamborghini and, when forced to brake hard, also spun. The gap between the stationary number 6 car and the concrete barriers was a little too narrow for the number 5 car to make it through. The Lamborghinis touched, Krohn’s car suffering mostly rear-end damage, Brabham’s taking its hardest knock at the front.

Krohn explained: “I got on the brakes and it just snapped away from me, quick as anything. It would’ve been OK but unfortunately there was some traffic around and David was right behind.”

Brabham commented: “The same thing that happened to Tracy happened to me; I’m as experienced [in racing] as anyone out there, and it caught me out too.”

There were those who doubted the cars would be repaired in time for the afternoon’s one-hour practice or 20-minute qualifying session, but not team manager Dick Barbour. “Just watch my guys,” Barbour said as the cars were brought to the team’s pit garage for repairs. “We’ll have ‘em back out there. Never say die.”

The number 6 car made it onto the track at the start of the afternoon’s one-hour practice session, the number 5 car was running 15 minutes later. In qualifying Krohn posted a best time on the 1.94-mile, 12-turn course of 1min 16.505sec, for fifth place in the GTS class. Brabham’s co-driver Peter Kox recorded a best lap of 1min 12.228sec for the number 5 car, fourth in GTS, despite having to guess which Pirelli tires would best suit the car because of lack of track time. The GM Racing Chevrolet Corvette of Olivier Beretta was fastest in GTS, setting a new record of 1min 9.981sec.

Krohn’s co-driver this weekend is Nic Jonsson, the 36-yer-old Atlanta-based Swede who scored his first-career victory in an SCCA SPEED World Challenge Touring Car race at Infineon Raceway, California, last weekend. Jonsson said: “I’m really excited about this drive. Krohn-Barbour Racing is a really professional team, Dick Barbour is a proven winner, and Lamborghini makes great cars. I know the car’s not yet had all the testing and development it needs, because it’s new, but it’ll be good experience for me.”

Sunday’s Portland Grand Prix, round five of nine in the ALMS, starts at 1pm local time and runs for two-hours 45-minutes.

BOTH LAMBORGHINIS FRUSTRATED IN CHASE FOR THIRD PLACE

Both Krohn-Barbour Racing Lamborghinis had third place in their sights in the hotly-contested GTS class in Sunday’s fifth round of the American Le Mans Series at Portland International Raceway, Oregon, but ultimately both were deprived of a finish.

After nearly two hours of the two-hour 45-minute Portland Grand Prix, the number 5 Lamborghini Murciélago R-GT of David Brabham and Peter Kox was chasing the Saleen S7R of Johnny Mowlem/Terry Borcheller for third place. But as Kox lapped the Alex Job Racing Porsche 911 GTR of Timo Bernhard/Jorg Bergmeister on the inside line going into Turn One, the Porsche turned-in too early and hit the left rear corner of the Lamborghini, damaging its rear suspension and forcing retirement.

Kox said: “It’s a shame, because we were going really well, staying with the Saleen. We were working through traffic and when I came up behind the Porsche on the pits straight I flashed my headlamps several times. I was nearly all the way past, on the inside, and really thought it [the passing maneuver] was finished, when he hit me really hard.”

The surviving number 6 Lamborghini Murciélago R-GT of Tracy Krohn and Nic Jonsson could also see third place within its reach, after two hours and 22 minutes of racing, when the Saleen slowed by 25 seconds per lap with an engine problem. But Krohn had been experiencing gearbox downshift problems and these worsened on the lap that Jonsson took over the Lamborghini for the race’s final stint, forcing the Swedish driver to bring the car slowly to the pits and retirement.

Krohn said: “The gearbox was playing up on downshifts for some time, but it was always a mystery. Sometimes it’d go in, sometimes it wouldn’t. I tried doing the whole lap just in third and fourth, I tried going around in fourth and fifth. I couldn’t tell the team what was going on because we lost our [car-to-pits] radio. We also lost our [rear-view] camera. So I couldn’t shift, I couldn’t see - it was a pretty tough outing!”

Jonsson, who was standing-in for Scott Maxwell at this race, commented: “After I went out of the pits, I got up to third okay, then I couldn’t downshift. I got fourth and fifth on the back straightaway, then something else locked up.”

Of his first experience of the Lamborghini, which made its US racing debut just four weeks ago, Jonsson said: “The car was more physical than I thought it would be, especially the steering, but it’s very direct, very responsive. Krohn-Barbour Racing is very professional and the Lamborghini has huge potential. With a serious test program, it’ll be good.”

The Lamborghinis of Brabham/Kox and Krohn/Jonsson completed 103 laps and 91 laps respectively before halting; the third-placed Saleen ran 113 laps to the finish. The GM Racing Chevrolet Corvettes of Ron Fellows/Johnny O’Connell and Oliver Gavin/Olivier Beretta placed first and second in the GTS-class and third and fourth overall, on 135 and 133 laps.

The Portland Grand Prix was won outright by the Audi R8 of JJ Lehto/Marco Werner (141 laps) from the Lola EX257 of James Weaver/Butch Leitzinger (1min 8.446sec behind)

CANADIAN MAXWELL TO MAKE LAMBORGHINI DEBUT AT HOME TRACK

When the American Le Mans Series (ALMS) makes its only appearance of the season outside the United States this weekend, visiting Mosport International Raceway in Ontario, Canada, local driver Scott Maxwell will make his race debut in one of the two Krohn-Barbour Racing Lamborghinis.

Toronto-based Maxwell had hoped to start his season with Krohn-Barbour Racing six weeks ago, when the exciting new Lamborghini Murciélago R-GT made its US competition debut in round two of the ALMS at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course on June 25-27, but he has been frustrated in his hopes of starting every one of the last four races.

Maxwell and his team-mate Tracy Krohn had to sit out the Mid-Ohio race, and round three at Lime Rock, Connecticut, one week later, because the Lamborghini was badly damaged in Friday practice at Mid-Ohio when a Porsche collided with it. The Lamborghini was rebuilt around a new chassis in time for round four at Infineon Raceway, California – but Maxwell found himself unable to get to the track because he was without an up-to-date ‘P1' visa to enter the United States. Maxwell's visa finally came through on Friday 23 July, the day of practice for that weekend's fifth round at Portland International Raceway, Oregon, but by then the team had enrolled Nic Jonsson as a one-off stand-in.

Forced to watch from the sidelines, Maxwell has seen ‘his' number 6 car achieve the best-ever result for the Lamborghini marque in an international-status auto race, when it placed second in the GTS class (to a Chevrolet Corvette) at Infineon Raceway on July 18. Krohn, participating in his first-ever ALMS race, shared the car that day with track instructor David McEntee.

Maxwell said: "It's somewhat apropos that I get to make my race debut in my own back yard. It's been a bit of a roller-coaster season for me because of the crash damage and then the visa problem out of the blue, so I'm excited that I'm finally getting to drive the car. I grew up at Mosport and know it really well, so the focus for me this weekend is going to be on getting to know the car. I'm looking forward to getting in and doing a good job.

"Mosport is perhaps the most challenging track we visit all year. It's very much the old-style road racing track in that it follows the terrain and it's kept its character over the years. It's very hilly and fast, with sweeping, blind corners. Good drivers tend to thrive there. You have to be smooth, keep momentum through the fast corners, and not be intimidated by the blind crests."

Maxwell is a past winner of the Mosport 24 Hours, and won two Canadian national single-seater championships early in his career. As a sports car racer, he has scored class victories in the Daytona 24 Hours, Petit Le Mans and the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Krohn-Barbour Racing's number 5 Lamborghini will be driven as usual this weekend by Dutchman Peter Kox and English-based Australian David Brabham. Kox placed second in the GTS-class at Mosport last year, in a Prodrive Ferrari 550 Maranello; Brabham placed second-overall at Mosport in 1999 and 2001, driving for the Panoz factory team.

This Sunday's race will run for two-hours 45-minutes on the 2.459-mile, 10-turn Mosport road course near Bowmanville, starting at 12.00 noon (ET). CBS Sports is scheduled to televise the event from 1.00pm to 3.00pm (ET). Timed qualifying, to establish starting-grid positions, takes place Saturday, with practice on Friday.

KROHN-BARBOUR RACING CARS TO MISS SUNDAY’S RACE

Following this morning’s practice session for the sixth round of the American Le Mans Series (ALMS) at Mosport International Raceway, Ontario, Canada, the Krohn-Barbour Racing team has taken the decision not to run its two Lamborghini Murciélago R-GTs in Sunday’s race.

In Friday’s and Saturday’s 90-minute and 60-minute practice sessions at Mosport, the cars of David Brabham/Peter Kox and Tracy Krohn/Scott Maxwell developed handling abnormalities which were found to be due to a partial and gradual deformation of the cars’ rear lower suspension wishbones. The cars’ straightline tracking was affected, requiring the drivers to hold the steering wheel off-center to drive in a straight line. If the cars were to continue running, the condition would likely worsen.

Team manager Dick Barbour explained: “We’ve made this decision only after a lot of careful consideration, and of course with regret. But I’ve been racing more than 25 years, and that’s long enough to know these kinds of things happen. The Mosport circuit is the most demanding we’ve been to yet, and the Lamborghini is a new race car that we only took delivery of six weeks ago. The early days of this program were always going to be a learning process, and today we’ve learned that one particular component needs modifying.

“The only place to manufacture that modification to the high standards that Krohn-Barbour Racing and Lamborghini would demand is back at the race shop. Unfortunately, that means this weekend we’ve had to take an early shower.”

The Krohn-Barbour Racing cars will return to action in the next round of the ALMS at Road America, Wisconsin, on August 20-22.

9 August 2004…/The duo of Lamborghini R-GTs currently competing in the USA with Krohn-Barbour Racing were forced to withdraw from this weekend's ALMS race due to the delivery of faulty suspension parts from the official supplier to Lamborghini.

A spokesman of the supplier, Heggemann, explained, "We supplied the original suspension parts to Lamborghini for the new R-GT and these have been successfully tested over a distance of 3000km and used in competition with Krohn-Barbour Racing and with teams racing in Japan. We produced further spares which were supplied to the team, but unfortunately these did not meet with our usual high standards of production quality. The replacement parts were unable to be delivered to the team in time for the race.

"We are extremely sorry that we have not attained our usual high standards and that as a result, the Krohn-Barbour Racing team were unable to compete this weekend. Immediately the problem with the product was evident, we started extensive analysis of the parts to establish the causes of its deficiencies. We will ensure that future supplies will meet the standards required by the race teams and Lamborghini."

Manfred Fitzgerald, Marketing Manager, Automobili Lamborghini, comments, "It was very disappointing that Dick Barbour Racing were unable to compete in the ALMS race this weekend. As soon as a problem became apparent we worked with the team and our supplier to rectify it. Unfortunately, the supplier was not able to deliver the parts required in time for the team to race. We are, of course, putting all our efforts into ensuring that our suppliers provide replacement parts as soon as possible."

11.08.2004 THE LAMBORGHINI MURCIELAGO R-GT WILL RECEIVE ITS FIRST TASTE OF LONG DISTANCE RACING WHEN AMPREX MOTORSPORTS ENTER THE 12-HOUR MERDEKA MILLENNIUM ENDURANCE AT THE END OF THIS MONTH.

Genji Hashimoto, owner and driver of Team Amprex Motorsports believes his newly acquired Lamborghini Murcielago R-GT will have a good chance to obtain a top position in the Merdeka Millennium Endurance (MME) race, considered as Asia’s biggest race with the participation of more than 100 cars and 300 drivers.“The Merdeka Millennium Endurance race will be a different story altogether. It is a different game and will suit the Lamborghini,” said Kuala Lumpur-based Hashimoto. He will be partnered by one of Asia’s top touring car drivers Charles Kwan of Hong Kong, and Germany's Norman Simon, his co-driver in the current Japan GT championship, for Sepang’s F1 circuit 12-hour race.He said the Lamborghini was being prepared for the 2005 Le Mans 24-Hour Endurance race and that MME race, which will run for half that time, was a perfect preparation for the team.“The ultimate target is Le Mans. The Japan GT championship race is not actually a priority,” says Hashimoto, who finished 12th at the Japan GT race at Sepang on June 19 with Simon, when the Malaysian-based team put their newly acquired 550bhp Lamborghini to test in a race for the first time. In the next round of the series on July 18 at the Tokachi Speedway, the team finished in 15th position, following a mishap on the track.Officiated by the Malaysian Deputy Minister of Federal Territory, Datuk Zulhasnan Rafique, the 2004 MME race was launched in a colourful ceremony at Desa Sri Hartamas with the attendance of competitors, sponsors and Sepang International Circuit (SIC) partners. The 2004 MME race will be Hashimoto’s third attempt in the event. After failing to finish in their debut in 2002, Hashimoto finished ninth overall and fifth in the open class last year with Charles and Matthew Marsh in their BMW M3. “Both Charles and Norman would be coming on the 22nd and we would immediately go into serious preparations for the race,” added Hashimoto.Amprex Motorsports team director Hong Heng Soon said that is the first time a Lamborghini Murcielago R-GT would be participating in a 12-hour race. “The MME race would be a good test for our car, as we need to simulate in preparation for next year 24 hours of Le Mans. So far, the Lamborghini Murcielago R-GT has not been driven for more than 1000km in any event, even in Europe and America. "The distance for FIA GT race is 500km as well as in ALMS (American Le Mans Series). Therefore, we take this opportunity to run our car and test all components for much longer distance. In fact, we might drive another 12hrs on private test after the MME race in Sepang because is more accurate to simulate on an actual race distance for Le Mans. Then, all components will be sent to Reiter Engineering for analysis after the race."We are optimistic about the race but in the same time, we have to be realistic because the reliability of the car is still a question. No doubt this car is being built for endurance race; but we have to be cautious. "This will be our third time participating in MME and we did not do well in the last two events. Hopefully this time luck is on our side and we should be able to achieve good result with a possibility to win.” Amprex Motorsports has an international support crew, which includes five Malaysian mechanics. The car was developed for racing by the sports unit of Audi, who also own Lamborghini. The company that builds the car, which is powered by a V12 6.0-litre engine is Reiter Engineer of Germany.According to a statement by SIC, previous participants of the MME, first held in 2000 included drivers from the Japan GT Championship, international drivers with racing experience in the British Touring Car Championship, Formula Nippon, Asian Touring Car Championship, Formula BMW, Formula 2000 and all of Malaysia’s top drivers including ex-Formula One driver Alex Yoong. "There will be three drivers to a car and they take turns accordingly to the race regulations to complete 12 hours of non-stop racing around the 5.543-km Sepang Circuit. Each driver can only drive a maximum of 75 minutes non-stop and they must rest at least two-thirds of the driving time before resuming the race. The maximum cumulative driving time for each driver is five hours. Only those who complete the 12-hour period will be classified,” the statement said.Flag-off for the 2004 Merdeka Millennium Endurance race will be at 10am on Saturday, August 28, 2004. Qualifying will be held on Friday, August 27.

KROHN-BARBOUR RACING SKIPPING NEXT RACE TO FOCUS ON TESTING

Krohn-Barbour Racing will miss next weekend's seventh round of the American Le Mans Series at Road America, Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin (August 20-22), in order to concentrate on testing and developing its two Lamborghini Murciélago R-GTs.

The Lamborghinis made their US competition debut only seven weeks ago, in round two of the American Le Mans Series (ALMS) at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, and have quickly established themselves as crowd favorites for their good looks and glorious engine note.

Krohn-Barbour Racing drivers David Brabham and Peter Kox have twice battled for third-place finishes in the GTS class, currently dominated by the two GM Racing Chevrolet Corvettes, and team co-founder Tracy Krohn and track instructor David McEntee finished second in GTS in round four of the ALMS at Infineon Raceway, California, but the busy race schedule has prevented the team from making as much progress as it would like with the performance of the new cars.

Team manager Dick Barbour explained: "With five races in the last seven weekends, there's been almost no time for the testing and development that a new racing car always needs. Tracy Krohn and I have decided it's best to take some time out from the race program to concentrate on testing and development. By missing the Road America race, we get a valuable six-week window before both cars return to the series at Petit Le Mans, the longest and most important event we'll enter this year."

The Petit Le Mans race runs for 10 hours or 1,000 miles (whichever is shorter) at Road Atlanta, Braselton, Georgia, on Saturday September 25.

Team JLOC prepares Lamborghini Murciélago R-GT for racing

31 August 2004…/ The Japanese Lamborghini Owners Club (JLOC) is preparing to return to the JGTC series with its Lamborghini Murciélago R-GT.Following delivery of the original pre-production car earlier this year, JLOC took the decision to test the R-GT in a JGTC race. The team now intends to compete in JGTC rounds and has decided to prepare its pre-production car to its full race potential.

JLOC’s Murciélago R-GT is back with development house Reiter Engineering in Germany, in order that the chassis and engine may be prepared to the R-GT’s current race specification. The car will return to the track for the fifth round of the JGTC at Twin Ring Motegi, September 3 – 5th, and the team will be joined by a number of mechanics from Reiter Engineering to support JLOC for this race weekend.

The privateer team is headed by one of the team’s founders, Masahiko Mearashi, and Japanese Lamborghini Owners’ Club president Isao Noritake.

It is very exciting to see two Japanese teams contesting the JGTC with the new Lamborghini Murciélago R-GT,” commented Manfred Fitzgerald of Automobili Lamborghini. “The spirit and enthusiasm of the JLOC team reflects the enthusiasm for the Lamborghini marque in Japan, and there will no doubt be a substantial following for the car in the JGTC.”

Lamborghini Murcilago R-GT race car programme continues with Reiter Engineering

11 March 2005/Under a new arrangement between Automobili Lamborghini and Reiter Engineering, the Murcilago R-GT race car programme will continue in 2005 with Reiter Engineering solely managing the project. Reiter Engineering will provide customer support, the spare parts service, and technical advice from its base in Kirchanschring, Germany.

With its specialist racing expertise and detailed knowledge of the Murcilago R-GT, Reiter Engineering is developing well-defined technical upgrades for the car and will make available updated parts. Reiter has built all the R-GTs to date, and is limiting future production and sales to just five more cars.

Derived from the acclaimed road-going Lamborghini Murcilago super sports car, the R-GT was introduced last year to meet customer demand for a high-specification GT/GTS race car at a competitive price, and has also become desirable to collectors.

Lamborghini Gallardo To Make Motor Sport Debut In Targa Tasmania Rally
_________________

THURSDAY, MARCH 3: Leading GT outfit Team Lamborghini Australia has entered two Lamborghini Gallardos in this years Targa Tasmania tarmac rally from April 26-May 1. The dual entry will be the Gallardos international motor sport debut, and will place Australian golfing star Stuart Appleby and Lamborghini Australia driver Paul Stokell in the drivers seats.
Judged Motor Performance Car of 2004 and valued at almost $400,000 each, the Targa Tasmania-bound Gallardos were built in the Lamborghini factory in SantAgata, Italy, and have been modified to compete in the drivetravel.com Modern Competition of the Tasmanian rally, which is owned by global sports marketing company Octagon.

With his own Gallardo garaged at his Florida home, international golfing sensation Appleby first became involved with Lamborghini Australia following his attendance at Lamborghini Experiences at Phillip Island last year.

Taking a weeklong break from the rigours of the PGA tour for Targa Tasmania, Appleby says he is extremely excited about the event and looks forward to driving on some of Australias best roads, in his favourite car.

With a particular interest in action sports and motor racing, Appleby first made mention to Targa Tasmania during a media interview where he said his dream would be to race competitively in the Tasmanian tarmac rally. Lamborghini Australia is yet to confirm a Navigator for Applebys Targa Tasmania jaunt.

Named after a famous Spanish fighting Bull, the 4WD Lamborghini Gallardo sports a V10, 5.0L engine, produces 376 kW of power and can reach a top speed of 309 km/h. A dry weight of 1430 kg and just 2.3 turns from lock to lock, makes for sharp steering and easy handling.

This being the Gallardos first official motor sport event, the world over, the dual Targa Tasmania Lamborghini entry has secured sponsorship from mobile communications company Crazy Johns.

Principal of Team Lamborghini Australia Andrew Smith said the Targa Tasmania rally is a fitting racing debut for the Gallardo.

Targa Tasmania is a good format to showcase the car for the world to see how good the Gallardo package actually is, he said. Whilst the car hasnt been in any other events, given that it is a stock-standard model, Targa Tasmania will be a great introduction for us.

The Gallardo is an easy car to drive and since Audis takeover of Lamborghini, with high-level backing, the quality of product coming out of the factory is second to none.

I have no doubt the Gallardo can hold its own amongst the competition field; there is no one in the world that can drive a Lamborghini faster than Paul Stokell.

Stokell, who grew up in Tasmania and is now based in Melbourne, joined Team Lamborghini Australia in 2000 and has driven the Lamborghini Diablo GTR, to victory securing back to back Australian Nations Cup Championships in 2003 and 2004.

To date, Stokell has competed in Targa Tasmania four times before and is geared up for a full assault in 2005; to date, his best Targa Tasmania result has been third outright in 2001 driving a Lotus Elise.

The Gallardo is a car capable of taking on the big guns and we have a real chance of outright victory, said Stokell.

I have been waiting a long time for this and I cant wait to take on Jim Richards and Porsche It will bring back memories of our clashes in Nations Cup together.

Stokell, whose past record also includes driving V8 Supercars, said he owes all his motor sport successes to his long-time Tasmanian Navigator, Peter Roberts, who will be guiding him around the Targa Tasmania course in 2005.

Peter has remained with me in all events and I attribute a lot of our success to his experience and the fact that we get on very well together.

Targa Tasmania is supported by the Tasmanian Government through Events Tasmania.

The two Lamborghini enthusiasts asked known racecar builder Reiter Engineering to build a race ready Gallardo to VLN regulations. The result is a fantastic sportscar , powered by a five litre engine pulling out 500hp. Another proven partner is Lingmann Motorsport : The VLN experienced squad is supporting the team trackside while team principals Rsler & Kitzerow will also drive the car.

The goal for the first outing is to get more testing kilometers on the car, a first shakedown at the Eurospeedway Lausitz can be considered as success : "The car felt very good, although we still have a lot to learn", says Rsler. The expectations for 2006: "Good results during the VLN Season, and to survive the Nrburgring 24hrs 2006. And maybe , if we are a little lucky , a spot in the Top 10".

Immediate success
for the Lamborghini Gallardo GTR!
Untermerzbach/Germany, 10th October 2005 The first ever outing of Team Lambo-Racing on the Nrburgring Nordschleife in front of over 26,000 spectators was an instant success. The car turned into a crowd favourite in no time and was immediately on speed on track. The car started from the 39th position, mainly because a spin in qualifying which meant no damage to the car, but was able to make up many positions during the opening hour. Stephan Rsler & Andreas Kitzerow both drove two stints each during the four hour race and finished on an impressive 14th position overall, second in class.

Of course we are very pleased with the result, we mainly entered the race to get some testing kilometres because the car was finished only a few days ago. We still have lots of setup work to do but to be on the pace immediately makes it even more fun, said Kitzerow. After my spin during the qualifying session I first thought I totally damaged the car, but luckily I didnt touch anything. I am happy about this result in our roll-out event. added Rsler. Next outing for the car will be the tenth round of the Nrburgring Endurance Championship (VLN) on the 22th October . Dont expect too much, the next race will again be mostly about improving the setup of the car, pointed out both pilots. (Translation by Robert Prange)

"Reiter to develop Gallardo GT3 entry. 04/10/2005

German motorsport specialist Reiter Engineering has released the first images of its GT3 class Lamborghini Gallardo sportscar, which will be available for customers to campaign next season.

The 500bhp+ machine is being developed in both four-wheel and two-wheel drive formats, and the first model successfully completed a two-day shakedown test in the hands of the newly founded Lambo-Racing customer team last weekend. The 4WD car was developed and built at the customer's request, with Reiter completing the work in time for it to prepare for the start of the 2006 VLN Nordschleife Championship.

The image, taken in the early stages of development, clearly shows the distinctive Lamborghini styling that has attracted orders and further interest from privateer teams, with the first cars scheduled to be available in February.

Further technical details will be made available over the next two months, while a street' version of the Gallardo GT3R will follow within the next month."

The bull enters again the arena: coming Saturday, 22nd of October 2005, the Lamborghini Gallardo GTR of Lambo-Racing GmbH runs for the second time after its world-premiere approximately two weeks ago on the Nuerburgring test kilometres in the context of the VLN long-distance championship.

More testing kilometres ahead
for the Lamborghini Gallardo GTR

Untermerzbach/Germany, 18th October 2005 The Lamborghini Gallardo GTR is back in VLN business: Team Lambo-Racing will enter the car in the 10th round of the Nrburgring Langstreckenmeisterschaft, two weeks after its highly successful first outing. We still have realistic expectations, even though the first result was really encouraging. We need to develop the setup further to make most of the cars potential. This will require quite a lot testing kilometres, explains driver Stephan Rsler. We cant expect such a trouble-free run again, of course we would be pleased to achieve a good result, adds driver Andreas Kitzerow.

The first outing of the Lamborghini Gallardo GTR two weeks ago was an immediate success: The car finished 14th overall, 2nd in class during the 9th round of the Nrburgring Langstreckenmeisterschaft in front of 26,000 spectators.

Class victory: Lamborghini Gallardo GTR proves its reliability! Untermerzbach, 23 October 2005 -- it is a sensational success: Already when its second running on 22 October 2005 that could bring world-wide first Lamborghini in Gallardo GTR a class victory in the VLN Langstreckenmeisterschaft at the Nuerburgring! Before approximately 23,000 spectators the Lambo Racing pilot Stephan Roesler and Andreas Kitzerow left all competitors in the category of its vehicle behind itself after turbulent running. "we are pleased enormous about this early success, which is to due Roesler to the reliability of our Gallardo", said equal following the next to last run to the VLN Langstreckenmeisterschaft of this year. So the Gallardo qualification and running without ABS did not have to complete - an easy task in view of the to a large extent adverse weather and distance conditions on both days in the Eifel. However constant running followed an foreignindebted turner equal in the first round, at its end passabler 18. Place in the total valuation stood. "we could have driven with ABS in the rain surely faster, and after the turner equal to beginning we were stopped frequently by slower vehicles. With luckier process thus quite a better total placement would have been in it ", estimates team colleague Kitzerow. Maximum success however in the class of the vehicles up to 6.3 litres capacity: "after the loss of the viper in the last round it took still another one instant, until we realized that we had actually won in our category."

Lamborghini Gallardo GTR scores
first ever class victory!
Untermerzbach/Germany, 25th October 2005 Team Lambo-Racing scored its first ever class victory with the worlds first Lamborghini Gallardo GTR during the 10th round of the Nrburgring Endurance Championship VLN. It was an eventful four hour race in front of 23,000 spectators, and in the end the car was the first one of its class to arrive at the finish. We are really happy about this early success which was possible because of the cars reliability, said driver Stephan Rsler right after the race.

The weather & track conditions in the Eifel were tricky all weekend, especially for the Lamborghini which has no ABS. The race started with a spin during the first lap and progressed with a strong and trouble-free run which was rewarded with the 18th position overall. We could have driven faster in the rain with ABS and we were held up by slower cars after the spin. So we could have had an even higher overall position with a little more luck, thinks driver Andreas Kitzerow. However, the retirement of the strongest class rival, the Dodge Viper, meant the first ever class victory for the team. It took us some seconds to realize the Viper had been retired and to realize we really won our class, Kitzerow continues.

After two very successful first races in 2005, the team is looking forward into the next season: We can evaluate this two results in a realistic way, the winter will give us time to work on the car and improve it even more. (Translation by Robert Prange)

GT3 presentation, ABS development and selfmade tuning parts: Busy off-season for Lambo-Racing

Untermerzbach/Germany, 17th January 2006 The off-season is no time to relax for the Lambo-Racing GmbH. The Untermerzbach-based squad is using the free time to add ABS to the Lamborghini Gallardo GTR: ABS will give us a big advantage, especially during tricky Eifel weather conditions, explains driver Stephan Rsler.

Some weeks ago, the car had an exciting outing on the french Le Castellet circuit during the official FIA GT3 european series presentation. Driver Andreas Kitzerow was able to drive some fast laps on the french circuit: Our four-wheel drive was a big advantage during the wet conditions. Thats why we were faster than Aston Martin, Maserati and Lotus. Four-wheel drive wont be legal in the GT3 championship but we wont enter our car there anyways, explains Kitzerow. It was fun to drive on another circuit and we showed the car can be competative outside the Nrburgring, adds Rsler.

Owners of street legal Lamborghini Gallardos will now be able to improve their cars based on Lambo-Racings success: We want other Gallardo drivers to benefit from our racing development . Thats why we are offering various tuning parts like exhausts, brakes, seats or body parts, explains Kitzerow. A full listing of all available parts can be found on www.Lambo-Racing.de.

Development on the Gallardo GTR will continue until the start of the 2006 VLN season. The last season ended on a high with the first ever class win for the Gallardo, nevertheless both drivers are sure theres much more to come: The cars potential is not yet reached, theres still lots of development work to do. Draft press release * 09.03.06

REITER UPBEAT ABOUT GT3 TEST

"Highest top speed and easy to drive." These two comments about the performance of the
Lamborghini Gallardo GT3 were music to the ears of Hans Reiter and his German engineering
company at the end of a comprehensive two-day test at the Paul Ricard HTTT test track. They
should also be music to the ears of prospective competitors in the new FIA GT3 European
Championship.

Present at the official test session in the south of France were most of the proposed competitors
for the 2006 season, with only Ferrari missing from the test. The purpose of the test was to
assess and, if necessary, equalise the performance of cars including the Maserati GT3, the
Chrysler Viper, the Lamborghini Gallardo, Corvette C6, Porsche 997 and the Aston Martin
DBRS9. French sportscar drivers Christophe Bouchut and Jean-Marc Gounon were on hand in
addition to each of the teams' own designated drivers to drive and collect data on all the cars for
the FIA.

The German engineering specialists were especially pleased with the performance of the
Lamborghini, which set a fastest time of 2m12.077 leaving it just behind the Viper in the timings.
It tested both with and without ballast, as did the Viper and the Corvette (the three fastest cars
from the first day). Having worked hard over the winter period to develop a two-wheel drive
version of the 2006 Gallardo model, this brand new car had its first outing last Wednesday at the
Adria test track in Italy at which it immediately showed its speed by setting a new lap record for
GT3 cars of 1m18.28.

Hans Reiter was very upbeat about the outcome of the Paul Ricard test. "It was a good two days
and I think we have proved the worth of the Lamborghini here. One of the most important
features of a car to be driven by gentlemen drivers is that it should be easy to handle, and this
was one of the main comments about the Gallardo. The racing ABS system makes it very
suitable for this purpose. I am also very happy with the top speed of the car * it is definitely a
potential winner."

Peter Kox was on hand to drive the Reiter-run Lamborghini Gallardo, together with a number of
potential clients who had the possibility to do a few laps of the Paul Ricard test track. Several
cars have already been sold by Reiter for use in the Italian GT Championship, with further interest
in both the British and French GT series.

Also present at Paul Ricard was collector Bernhard Mller with his Lamborghini Murcielago R-GT.
Herr Mller took delivery of the Reiter-built car six months ago and was making the most of the
first opportunity he'd had to put some mileage on his car. Mller has no intentions to enter his car
into racing events; the testing was purely for fun.

Lambo Racing Gallardo GTR finished rain chaos race as second in class SP 8 and over-all twelfth

After a promising startoff place 14 and problems in the first lap, we passed the finishing line as the 90th car on the second round. Nevertheless our drivers Stephan and Georg fought the orange bull straight ahead to the 12th rank over-all and the 2nd place in its class SP 8 until the race was aborted due to heavy rain and too much crashed cars around the track.

Whilst the race, the Gallardo GTR proved its magnificent rain performance with assistance of the excellent rain tyres from Pirelli.

"Lambo-Racing finishes 2nd in its class
Untermerzbach, 19.06.2006 The top motorsport event of the year started with a shock for the Lambo-Racing team in the first practice session on Friday morning.

After only one timed lap the practice session for drivers Stephan Rsler, Andreas Kitzerow, Georg Silbermayr and Florian Scholze was over the Lamborghini Gallardo GTR had to re-turn to the pit on a tow-hook probably due to damage to the connecting rod bearing.

Despite a spare engine that was flown in by helicopter the team stayed without any timed lap in the second practice session. We wanted to make use of every chance to save time so that at least in the second practice session we would be able to perform a functional test af-ter the engine change. Unfortunately that didnt quite work out, explained a slightly disap-pointed Stephan Rsler.

Such the 24-hour race on Saturday started with problems in the first lap already. The oil pressure light signalled a defect and we didnt want to risk anything after the shock of the previous day, said Andreas Kitzerow. After a repair brake the Lamborghini rejoined the race as the last of 220 cars with four laps behind.

An exciting catch-up race led the Lamborghini Gallardo GTR right across the entire scoring list. Highly concentrated the drivers pushed the Lamborghini, which ran without any troubles at all, reliably and without incidents through the night. Two hours before the end of the race however there seemed to be something wrong with the front axle drive shaft which made the team tremble until the very end.

During the 24-hour race, Stephan Rsler, Andreas Kitzerow, Georg Silbermayr and Florian Scholze jumped more than 200 positions to an excellent 20th place in the overall classifica-tion and finished in second place in class SP8 with Lambo-Racing leaving prominent teams of its class behind. We are happy and proud to have beaten, as a private team, the works teams of Aston Martin and Maserati with our Gallardo GTR that had been perfectly prepared by Lingmann Motorsport, so Stephan Rsler and Andreas Kitzerow in unison.

With this success Lambo-Racing is the very first team in the history of the 24h-hour race that has successfully run a Lamborghini Gallardo."

We will start at the forthcoming weekend in the context of the "29. RCM DMV Grenzlandrennen". Beside Stephan Rsler, Berndt Haidt, an experienced driver particularly in the Sennebogen Porsche, will drive our Gallardo GTR.

30. DMV 250-Mile Race

Lambo-Racing with Kurt Thiim as Co-Starter
Bad luck again in the 2nd successive race

After the Lambo-Racing team was forced to drop out of the previous race - where they held a promising position - due to tyre damage, the Gallardo once again became a victim of the pe-riphery. In the last round, with the finishing line in sight, the left rear wheel worked loose in the approach to the section Schwalbenschwanz. Former DTM pilot Kurt Thiim drove the last stint: Suddenly there was a bang and the wheel stuck out from the rear wing halfway across. Thank heavens I was able to keep the Gallardo on the road. I am sorry for the boys at Lambo-Racing that we were out so close to the finish. They together with Herbert Ling-mann transferred a serial road car to a very good racing car. The set-up is good, however as to the rear axis a better solution must be found.

The orange Gallardo started the race from the 7th row in the starting grid and in the begin-ning all went well. Stephan Rsler could move up several places and was positioned in the top ten during his two stints. The 3rd stint, driven by Kurt Thiim, at first went smoothly except for a spin which meant a slight loss in time: When accelerating out of a curve, I spinned. I stopped in such an unlucky position that more than four minutes passed before the marshals could move the car back into the driving direction. In the end the team was forced to give up the race due to the reasons already mentioned above.

A slightly disappointed Stephan Rsler summarised the racing day: Its a pity that we were stopped in the last two races due to a periphery problem. This time its particularly hard be-cause it happened just three kilometres before the finish line. The Gallardo itself once again proved to be absolutely reliable and never caused any problems, just like in all the previous races, except for the ABS which failed us today. Of course, we would have liked to finish the race with Kurt.

Until the next race Lambo-Racing, in cooperation with the operational team Lingmann Mo-torsport, will try to solve the rear axis problem mentioned by Kurt Thiim and hopefully start the next race with more luck on their side.

The last two weekends have been very busy for the Reiter Engineering customer teams with their Lamborghini Gallardo GT3s. The drivers fought in six race series across Europe for glory, honour and points. They added three pole positions and one class win to the record books of the Reiter-built Gallardo.

Fabien Giroix took the right decision to engage the young Frenchman Nicolas Navarro as a substitute for Cyril Helias in one of his First Racing Lamboghinis. In his first ever qualifying session for the French GT championship, Navarro took pole for race 1 in Ledenon. He continued his good performance on Saturday, when Navarro / Giroix finished in second position in the GT3 category. Their team mates came home in fifth and seventh position. In the second qualifying it was Ulric Amado and Antoine Leclerc who occupied the GT3 front row with the First Racing Gallardos, and they left the opponents behind them. Due to tyre problems both teams couldnt hold their positions at the front of the field but Navarro / Giroix had a good race and were in third place at the end. With two pole positions and two podium finishes, it was a very successful weekend for Lamborghini in France!

EGTS Peroni: Basso / Mocci in Brnn as lone fighter

Only one Gallardo took part at the second meeting of the EGTS Peroni series. Basso / Mocci took pole in qualifying and the class win in race one on Saturday. On Sunday they missed the podium with fourth place in class.

International GT Open: Hard fight for Gallardo drivers

Strong competitors did not make it easy for the MIK Corse drivers Gianpaolo Fattori / Pablo Pinato and Gianmaria Gabbiani / Fabio Spatafora in the opening race of the International GT Open in Vallelunga. Gianmaria Gabbiani at least was able to beat some of the Viper teams and took third position on the starting grid. The first 32-lap race on Saturday ended with fifth place for Fattori / Pinato and seventh position for Gabbiani / Spatafora in the GTS class. On Sunday they finished in fourth and fifth place after 26 laps.

Dutch Supercar Challenge: Royal season opener

Prince Albert von Turn und Taxis drove his first race of the year at the Nrburgring in the Dutch Supercar Challenge. After a crash in race one, when another competitor pushed his Gallardo into the gravel, von Turn und Taxis had to start the second race from 32nd place on the grid. But the 23-year-old from Regensburg managed to finish the Sunday race in fifth place and left some Ferrari 430 and Porsche 911 race cars behind him. His next appearance on the race track will be the first race of the new ADAC GT Masters, again at the Nrburgring at the beginning of June.

Czech Long Distance Championship: Training camp for S.Berg

S.Berg Racing tested two Gallardos at Brno in real racing conditions right before the first weekend of the FIA-GT3 European Championship. In qualifying the Gallardos with Danis / Dabrota / Janis and Urban / Urban / Janis reached fourth and fifth positions for the starting grid. In the three hour race they had to fight against stronger DTM and GT2 cars, but Janis / Urban / Urban finished in the Top10 overall.

Czech Sprint Series: Again S.Berg

In addition to the Long Distance Championship, S.Berg also raced in the Sprint Series, held too at the Brno circuit. Both Gallardos finished in the Top10 overall in sixth and tenth places.

Lambo-Racing Team repeated success of 2006
Lamborghini Gallardo finished the 24 hours again

Untermerzbach (Germany), June 11, 2007 - The 37th starting position due to a ABS defect problems did not satisfy us. Because of a thanks god, only a small gear box problem in the pre-lap we had to start from the pit lane and to queue at the end of the first starting group. At 23:30 we dropped back about ten positions due to a tire damage. The cause for this was a part we picked up lying on the circuit. Half a round we had to drag ourselves through the circuit with this damaged tire. After a racing distance of 16 hours we were ranked on promising 16th position with potential forward, because the teams placed better than us had inferior lap-times. In our class SP8 we were positioned at this time on the second place behind the Dodge Viper and had a lead of three rounds over the team on third position. Then we unfortunately got again problems with our gear box electronic, which we could not solve despite several attempts. The last 1 hours we only drove in the fourth gear. So we end up on 42nd over-all position. In our class SP8 we could maintain the second place due to the lead we had.

We are happy and proud that we finished the 24h-race the second time in series with our Lamborghini Gallardo.

Team Modena Brands Hatch race notes
Racing series BGTC
Date 2007-07-16

Team Modena Lamborghini Shows Record Pace at Brands

Team Modena once more demonstrated the pace and potential of their new Lamborghini Gallardo race car this weekend as the Avon Tyres British GT Championship visited Brands Hatch, qualifying the car on the front row for the second race of the weekend, and setting a new outright GT3 lap record during that race. Only bad luck denied the team strong race finishes, Matt Owen retiring from the opening race after a spin, while Antonio Garcia was leading Sunday's race when a puncture saw him have to crawl round almost an entire lap - dropping the Lamborghini to the rear of the field.

With both drivers never having been to Brands Hatch before, Owen was in the car for the first of Saturday's two 15- minute qualifying sessions, and despite making his GT debut was 11th quickest of the 25-car field, while Garcia waited until just six minutes of the second session were left before taking to the track and putting in a series of rapid laps.

"We're very pleased," said Team Principal Graham Schultz after qualifying. "We had two intelligent runs from two intelligent drivers, and Antonio showed his professionalism by waiting for the track and traffic to be just right before going out.""

"I was pleased with qualifying," said Owen, "I went quicker than before but it was hard to find a space on the track. The times are all very close, and I can't wait for the start of the race."

"The car and circuit are new to me so I didn't know what to expect," said Garcia. "The car feels really good, but I had to overtake cars on my first two quick laps."

Saturday afternoon's round unfortunately proved a short one for Team Modena as a spin from Owen - running just outside the top ten on his first race in the competitive championship - saw him kiss the barriers at the quick Westfield corner, forcing the car into retirement. Owen had held position on his first GT rolling start through the daunting Paddock Hill Bend, and was starting to find his rhythm while running in heavy traffic when caught out on lap six.

"Matt made a smooth start to his first race with us," said Schultz, "and was then just caught out by a little bit of inexperience when under pressure. We will have the car fully repaired for tomorrow and we will show what we can do in that race."

At the start of Sunday's one-hour race Garcia moved into the lead from second on the grid with a breath-taking manoeuvre at the Druids hairpin on the opening lap, diving inside the leader and out-braking him into the tightest corner on the circuit. On his second lap Garcia set the fastest lap of the race - over a second and a half quicker than the mark that had stood at the start of the weekend.

A puncture while leading saw Garcia forced to crawl round almost an entire lap to return to the pits, effectively ending the car's race chances. Garcia handed over to Owen at the halfway point of the race, and he brought the car, running for the first time with new sponsor Riverbourne Group Ltd, corporate insurers, on the flanks, back into the top twenty overall by the end.

"It was a marvellous performance," summed up Schultz. "We were leading at the end of the first lap, and were going well until the puncture to the left rear tyre. Both drivers did well and we learnt a lot about the car today. I think we have the best prepared car out there, and we have the best looking car, the guys have done a great job on the Lamborghini."

"I pushed him hard into the first corner," said Garcia of his opening lap, "as I wanted him to brake late, then I went to the inside so that when he looked in his mirror I was already there. He did not leave me a lot of room - but there was enough. Then I was leading when the rear tyre blew, and it took me a long time to get back round to the pits.

"It is my first time at Brands Hatch, and my first impression of the circuit was that I liked it, and I still do. The Lamborghini is great and we are learning more about it every race."

"There was nothing to really be gained," said Owen of his stint in the car after re-joining the race at the rear of the field, "but it was good to have more some race time in the car and I feel I can be competitive. The team have been great all weekend and I can't wait for the next race now."

Andrew Thompson had a strong debut with the Lamborghini Gallardo
GT3 last weekend in Brno. For the first time, the British driver sat behind
the steering wheel of this car, but was able to follow the high pace of the
FIA-GT3 competitiors. In second free practice Thompson and co-driver
Martin Rich were second fastest in the big GT3 field of 38 cars.
Erik Janis took the first pole position for Lamborghini in the 2007
European Championship Season in the first qualifying session, which
decided the starting grid for Saturdays race. The young Czech driver was
more than 1.4 seconds fasters with his S.Berg Racing Gallardo than the
following cars. In second qualifying it was Andrew Thompson who
demonstrated some brilliant work in the Gallardo cockpit. Being three
tenths of a second faster than the other drivers in his group, he captured
the second pole for Lamborghini this weekend in Brno.
These two teams were also in the top positions in the first race on
Saturday. Erik Janis caught a good start and began to built up a big gap
immediately but he was unfortunately not able to profit from this gap. Due
to a big accident, race control sent out the safety car and Janis got
caught by the field again. His co driver Jaromir Jirik drrove the second
half of the 60 minutes race and finished fourth with the #15 S.Berg
Gallardo in the end. Just two positions behind were Andrew Thompson
and Martin Rich who collected their first points in the Gallardo.
Guest driver, head of the ADAC GT Masters, Christopher Haase, drove
the European Championship races together witch Dutch resident Marius
Ritskes. Under the banner of First Racing, they finished the first race in
14th position.
Result Race 1:
1. Peyrolles / Ruffier Corvette Z06
2. von Gartzen / Piri Corvette Z06
3. Vannelet / Moser Ferrari 430
4. Janis / Jirik Lamborghini Gallardo
5. Skula / Matzke Corvette Z06
6. Rich / Thompson Lamborghini Gallardo
7. Frassineti / Alessi Aston Martin DBRS9
8. Forsten / Soulet Ford GT
Jaromir Jirik and Erik Janis finished the second race on Sunday on the
podium. Jirik drove the first part of the race and made an early stop,
following a different strategy to most of the other competitiors. Janis
made his way back to the top and overtook Vannelet / Moser in their
Ferrari just on the last lap. With this move, the Czech drivers from S.Berg
Racing were third in the final classification. After this result, they now are
fifth in the Championship.
Andrew Thompson also had a strong first half of the race. The British
racing driver got himself accustomed to the Gallardo and improved his
Saturday result in Brno. After sixth position on Saturday, Thomspon and
Rich finished fifth on Sunday. Haase and Ritskes again came home in
14th position.
Result Race 2:
1. Piri / von Gartzen Corvette Z06
2. Ruffier / Peyrolles Corvette Z06
3. Janis / Jirik Lamborghini Gallardo
4. Moser / Vannelet Ferrari 430
5. Thompson / Rich Lamborghini Gallardo
6. Soulet / Forsten Ford GT
7. Ludwig / Berberich-Martini Corvette Z06
8. Matzke / Skula Corvette Z06
International GT Open: Victorious in Brands Hatch
With Ferrari, Aston Martin, Dodge and Marcos, the two Lamborghini
Teams of de Castro / de Baranda and Cioci / Geri had strong competition
at the British meeting of the International GT Open at Brands Hatch.
But Angel de Castro defended the honour of Lamborghini in the first
qualifying and took pole position for the first race with a gap of three
tenths of a second in the GTS class. Marco Cioci in the #61 car was the
best Lambroghini driver in second qualifying with fourth place on the grid.
Marco Cioci and Ferdinando Geri finished the first 35 lap race on the
podium, Angel de Castro / Saind de Baranda came home in fifth position.
The latter pair also set the fastest GTS lap time with a time of 1:30.835
minutes. Ferdinando Geri completed the Gallardo success with the best
class top speed in sectors one and three.
Result Race 1:
1. Petrini / Wiser Aston Martin DBRS9
2. Romanini / Lancieri Aston Martin DBRS9
3. Cioci / Geri Lamborghini Gallardo
4. Marchetti / Romagnoli Dodge Viper
5. de Castro / de Baranda Lamborghini Gallardo
In Warm-Up on Sunday morning, Cicoi and Geri were second fastest in

lap race it were their team mates de Castro and de Baranda, who had the
better run. The two Iberian drivers won the second race of the meeting in
front of the Ferrari team Faulkner and Petrobelli with a gap of 2.8

French GT: Further success for First Racing
After a short break, First Racing continued their efforts in the French GT
Championship. Bruno Dubreuil and Ulric Amadu drove the #70 Gallardo
at the 65th Grand Prix of Albi and finished in sixth position in the first race
in front of GT3 competitiors with Ferrari, Dodge and Porsche cars.
Unfortunately their team mates David Tuchbant and Antoine Leclerc had
to retire after only 10 laps.
On Sunday, Dubreuil and Amadu had their big moment. They not only
finished in 11th position overall within the field of fast GT1 and GT2 cars,
but they also won the GT3 class.

The #28 Lamborghini Murcilago R-GT, driven by Peter Kox and
Jos Menten, will not take part in the ninth round of the FIA-GT
championship in Nogaro.
At the last race in Brno, a broken wheel nut caused a left front
wheel to loosen and break away shortly before the end of the race.
After first analysis, a material defect was detected as the reason
for the breakage. Because of the short time period between Brno
and Nogaro, it was not possible to find a solution or to eliminate
the failure of the wheel part. So Reiter Engineering will withdraw
their car for safety reasons from the race in France.
We cannot be sure that that this failure wouldnt happen again in
Nogaro, said Hans Reiter about the situation. We do not want to
put our drivers Peter Kox and Jos Menten, or our material, to such
a risk. We have until the final round at Zolder to try and find a solution for
this problem in cooperation with our supplier.

Having missed the last round of the season at Croftdue to engine problems, the Team Modena Lamborghini will return to the Avon Tyres British GT Championship for the season finale at Rockingham.

The GT3-spec Gallardo has been on the pace at every race meeting it has contested this season with lap records being broken at Snetterton, Brands Hatchand Silverstoneand the team will hope to continue that trend at the high-speed Northamptonshire venue, with BTCCracer Adam Jones once again at the wheel this time joined by Porsche Carrera Cup driver Jason Templeman.

"I'm really looking forward to Rockingham," he said. "The Gallardo has gone well at every circuit we have been to and I don't expect it to be any different this weekend. I've got to know the car over recent races and I am sure there is still more to come from it. We have a new engine in for the weekend and we can bed things down on Friday.
"The Gallardo is a really nimble race car, which should be good round Rockingham. There are some much larger cars on the grid and our overall package is a really strong one and it should be good for us."

Brazilian GT3 Leading position defended
From the third event onwards, a second Lamborghini Gallardo took part
in the Brazilian GT3 Championship. Beside the leaders Alceu Bonifacio /
Pablo Feldman the duo Sandy Negro / Andreas Mattheis changed to the
Gallardo . They immediately found confidence in the new car and finished
three of the four free practice sessions on top ot the time sheets.
Also in Qualifying, the newcomers showed the rear lights of their Gallardo
to the other competitors. They took pole for the first race of the weekend
right in front of Bonifacio / Feldman, and two Ferrari 430s with a gap of
just two tenths of a second. Even tighter was the result of second
qualifying. Again Negro / Mattheis were fastest in front of Bonifacio /
Feldman, but this time there was only one tenth between them.
With their collected experience and routine of the first events of the
season, Bonifacio and Feldman came out on top in both 60-minute races
on Sunday. They expanded their lead in the championship where they
now have 56 points. Negro / Mattheis were in fifth position in the first
race and in second in the afternoon race. As they drove the first two
events behind the wheel of a Dodge Viper and have still collected points,
they are now in second position in the championship.

British GT: Pole and Podium for Team Modena
Jason Templeman was a new co-driver for Adam Jones at the British GT
event at Rockingham. Templeman rewarded the trust given to him and
took the first pole positioni for Team Modena in the British GT
Championship. With a lap of 1.22,605 minutes he left 21 other GT3 cars
behind his Lamborghini Gallardo. Adam Jones drove the second practice
and continued the successful run of the team with a third place starting
position for race two.
Templeman held the lead in race one for nearly eight laps, but then he
had to let Alex Mortimer (Dodge Viper) past. Until the obligatory pit stops,
Templeman was lying in second position and then it was Adam Jones
turn. The Team Modena driver returned to the track in fifth position and
fought back to third in the second half of the race.

Kox and Jos Menten were forced to tread carefully in free
practice since they had fewer tyres at their disposal after missing a
race and as stipulated by the regulations. The performance is
good, 1:28 lap times are certainly well within our possibilities,
predicted Hans Reiter. Local matador Jos Menten reduced the
deficit to the leading group in qualifying by several tenths with a
lap time of 1:27.351 minutes, which meant tenth position on the
grid.
Start driver Jos Menten worked his way up to eighth place in the
first short 14 lap stint before handing driving duties over to Peter
Kox as scheduled. The Netherlander benefited from this early pit
stop and was able to fight his way through the field to second
place. Kox defended the position throughout the entire middle
stint, and was also able to hold the fast lapping and Corvette from
Carsport Holland at bay before peeling-off down pit road for the
second mandatory pit stop on lap 48. Jos Menten rejoined the race
in seventh place. A hard but fair wheel-to-wheel battle with one of the
BMS Aston Martins dominated the final stint of the race; Jos Menten
claimed the position and took the chequered flag in a well earned sixth
position.

Italian GT Monza: Two wins to round off the season
Even though Giacomo Piccini and Giovanni Berton had already clinched
the championship in the GT3A Class with the MIK Corse Gallardo, the
two Italians chose not to rest on their laurels during the final event of the
season. Piccini took the GT3 pole position in first qualifying and an
incredible fourth position overall. A great performance, particularly as the
top-ten positions in the Italian GT Championship are normally occupied
by the faster GT2 cars. They also shone in second qualifying by taking
the class pole again and sixth fastest overall.
The last two races of the season ran even better for the Lamborghini duo.
In the first race Piccini / Berton did not only win their class again, but by
taking second place overall mounted the podium alongside the overall
winner. The GT3A victory in the second race was simply the logical
conclusion. Fifth place overall underlined the two drivers excellent
performance. Piccini / Berton extended their lead in the final
championship standings to 21 points.

The First Racing drivers aimed to finish the season on a high after having
taken third place in qualifying. In the first race on Saturday there was only
one outcome possible. One-two for the Lamborghini Gallardo GT3 ahead
of the archrivals from the Ferrari camp!
Dubreuil / Amadu took the class victory five seconds ahead of their team
mates Leclerc / Tuchbant and the Ferrari 430 of Ballay / Scheer.
Dubreuil / Amadu took third place in qualifying in the GT3 class once
again on Sunday in their Gallardo, and almost managed to repeat
Saturdays result from. Both First Racing Lamborghini Gallardos made
the GT3 podium, narrowly beaten into 2nd and 3rd positions.
The results meant that Dubreuil and Petit / Vannelet (Ferrari) were equal
on points in second position in the final standings. However, Dubreuil had
to settle for third place overall in the FFSA GT3 championship since the
Ferrari duo had one victory more than Dubreuil.

Brazilian GT3: Black weekend for Lamborghini

position to defend their championship lead from in the race in the
process. Bonifacio quickly made up ground during the first half of the race
and was within striking distance of the leader. Alceu Feldman took over
the Lamborghini Gallardo and remained in second position. Unfortunately
an engine failure prevented the duo from reaping the rewards of their
excellent performance. Bonifacio / Feldman had to accept their first
retirement of the season.
They nevertheless managed to maintain their championship lead by the
slim margin of four points. Because there was only a short break between
the two races on Sunday it was not possible to make any repairs and the
team slipped to second position overall.

Australian GT: Bryce Washington heads the leader board
Three wins at Oran Park catapulted Bryce Washington in his Natrad
Radiators & Auto Air Lamborghini Gallardo to the top of the Australian GT
Championship standings. Even though Washington only started
competing in the series at the second round with the GT3 Gallardo, he
immediately proved to be the strongest competitor for Ferrari driver Allan
Simonsen, who already had three wins to his credit at this time. However,
this was of little concern to Bryce Washington who in fact started an
impressive fight back. Every event saw Simonsens lead in the Ferrari
melt a little more. Washington made such huge inroads into Simonsens
lead that Ferrari elected to enter a second car against Washington from
the fourth race weekend in Queensland onwards. The championship
battle became a duel between Lamborghini and Ferrari!
However, even these tactical measures could do nothing to foil Bryce
Washingtons winning streak. After claiming three pole positions, and
eight overall and nine class victories Washington now lies equal at the
top of the leader board with Simonsen.
The penultimate event at Oran Park close to Sydney was a triumph for
Lamborghini. Not only did Washington claim pole position from archrival
Simonsen, but he also won all three sprint races to level the point
standings. As a result, the championship battle will be decided between
Simonsen representing the traditional motorsport stable of Ferrari and
Washington, the more junior from the younger motorsport equipe
Lamborghini, at the final round at Sandown International Raceway
between 7-9 December.
In contrast to the former race weekend format of three sprint-races, the
season finale of the Australian GT Championship will last for three-and-ahalf
hours.
Current standings before the final race weekend:

Reiter Engineering driver Christopher Haase concluded a successful
season with a highlight at the Adria Raceway. Haase made his first steps
towards a potential career boost around the tight and twisty circuit 50
kilometres south of Venice. The 19-year old Haase sat at the wheel of a
GT1 Lamborghini Murcilago R-GT for the first time.
Christopher really did an excellent job, he gave a lot of valuable input
and certainly didnt harm him his chances making more outings in the GT
car, stated Team Boss Hans Reiter.
Following his first year of motorsport in the Dacia Logan Cup, Haase
stepped up to the Lamborghini Gallardo GT3 in 2007 with which he
contested the ADAC GT Masters and claimed five victories on the way to
winning the title in this new GT3 series. Italian ex-Formula 1 driver Gianni
Morbidelli and Belgian sportscar driver Jos Menten were the experienced
co-drivers alongside Haase throughout the season. In addition to the
German championship he also made guest starts with the Gallardo GT3
in the FIA GT3 European Championship in Bucharest and at Brno.
Christopher Haase will compete together with Albert von Thurn und Taxis
once again at the wheel of a Reiter Engineering Lamborghini Gallardo in
the ADAC GT Masters in 2008.
In addition to his job as Mechatronic technician at Reiter Engineering a
social event awaited the young champion after the test day. Christopher
Haase attended the Goldenen Lenkrads prize giving at the Axel
Springer Haus in Berlin as guest together with Formula 1 driver Lewis
Hamilton. This international award has been presented by the Bild am

circuit located in the desert. S.Berg Racing sent three Lamborghini
Gallardo to the Middle East, including the Swiss professional racer Jean-
Denis Deletraz, who steered a Gallardo together with his countryman
Lloyd la Marca. La Marca and Deletraz also claimed the best
Lamborghini positions with tenth and thirteenth in the two races.
Erik Janis is the best placed Lamborghini driver in sixth position in the
final Championship standings. The Czech was, however, unable to
compete as he had been called-up to race for his home nation in the A1
Grand Prix Series.
FIA-GT3 Lamborghini Cup
A ‘one-make-cup’ series is for each brand is also held within the
framework of the European Championship. A total of 18 drivers scored
points during the 2007 season in the Lamborghini classification.
The most succesful and constant Gallardo driver was Austrian Hans
Knauss from the S.Berg Racing team. The 36-year old former ski ace Ski
Star (Silver in Giant Slalom 2003, Silver at the 1998 Winter Olympic
Games) scored points every one of the twelve Lamborghini Cup races
and claimed first place with 51 points at the final chequered flag.
Partnering Knauss as co-drivers throughout the year were Werner Grobl
and Jan Danis. Hans Knauss only started his motorsport career in 2006
and made his debut in the FIA GT3 European Championship with the
S.Berg Gallardo in 2007. By claiming second place at Silverstone and in
Bucharest, Knauss easily surpassed his target of finishing once on the
podium made before the season started.

AUSTRALIAN GT CHAMPIONSHIP DISAPPOINTED IN LAMBORGHINI AUSTRALIA WITHDRAWAL FROM SANDOWN CLASSIC

The management of the Australian GT Championship has expressed its extreme disappointment with the last minute withdrawal of the Team Lamborghini Australia entry that was to have been driven by John Bowe at the Sandown Classic scheduled for December 7-9.

‘There has been a lot of excitement surrounding the John Bowe/James Moffat entry and we have used John extensively in our promotion, so this is a big loss to the event’, said Australian GT Championship Director Terry Little.

‘We are also surprised to say the least at some of the comments attributed to Lamborghini Australia Managing Director Andrew Smith in a media release on the subject.

‘Mr. Smith has been made fully aware of the Australian GT Championship calendar for 2008 that includes the A1GP, the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne, and the Clipsal 500 Adelaide, and he is also aware of the television coverage.

As for the regulations that’s simple. The Australian GT Championship is and will continue to run under FIA GT3 rules and Mr. Smith knows that’.

Mr. Little said that the management of the Australian GT Championship had an excellent relationship with Reitter Engineering in Germany and its Australian agent Paul Ceprnich, Pace Innovations who are responsible for the Lamborghini racing program, distribution of race cars and parts.

Mr. Little also expressed extreme disappointment with comments attributed to Mr. Smith concerning an issue with the Bowe driven Lamborghini Australia entry at the Tasmanian round of this year’s GT Championship, saying ‘the management of Australian GT, race officials and CAMS addressed the issue immediately following the Tasmanian round and are working to ensure this can’t happen again’.

Double Bullfight at Raeder

Raeder Motorsport builds second Gallardo for VLN
Owner Heinz Schmersal will drive the whole season 2008
OSRAM-Gallardo continues to run with the same team
January 08, Paderborn
It took one and a half years but Raeder Motorsport finally had its breakthrough with the Lamborghini Gallardo: a podium finish in the second last VLN race in 2007 and a near-miss of the pole position in the final race by just one tenth of a second. And for the 2008 season, the committed racing team around Martin and Nicki Raeder are going to remodel a second Gallardo into a competitive racing car. The man behind it, Heinz Schmersal from Wuppertal/Germany, however has no winning ambitions right now:
"I simply want to have an attractive racing car which I can drive to a top ten placement in the overall classification despite the enormous increase in the competitive level of the VLN. Looking at the potential of the Raeder-Gallardo, that should be possible for an ambitious amateur such as me after an appropriate settling-in period."

Stephan Rösler will be Heinz Schmersal’s partner in four VLN races as well as in the 24-hour race. Rösler became known to the scene worldwide as the pilot of the first racing Gallardo.
"We were very proud of that - however, we’ve reached the limits of the almost serial-production car. That’s why I’m now switching to the Raeder car. It’s a great challenge and I, like Heinz, believe that we can achieve a top-ten finish."

Building on the successes of the previous year and adding more cups to the one already won is the aim of the OSRAM-Gallardo crew, Hermann Tilke, Dirk Adorf and Peter Oberndorfer.
"I’m really fond of this once-in-a-lifetime project and after the start, which was admittedly not easy, we’ve proven that we’ve had reason to believe in the Gallardo and Raeder,"said Hermann Tilke, initiator of the whole enterprise. This car, too, will be on the race track throughout the entire season. Highlight for the Italian with the characteristic light bulb on the roof will be the 2008 24-hour race.

“We’ve already shown there in 2007 that we have to be reckoned with and, as in the VLN, the Tilke-Gallardo will drive more on the aggressive side whereas the Schmer-sal crew will try to move up the rankings by clocking constant times. In any case it is fantastic to have two Lamborghinis on the track,"so Nicki Raeder. And his brother Martin adds:
"We’ll rebuild and enhance the OSRAM car over the winter, and on top we’ll remodel and improve the aerodynamics and make it easier to maintain. Techni-cally the new car will be 100% identical to the first one. For both cars we trust in our long-standing partners, OSRAM, Dunlop, Keiper, HEGGEMANN, KW, Recaro, Waldmann, IMSA, DP-Motorsport and MOV’IT."
The signs are promising that this year’s VLN will attract even more than the 292,000 spectators seen in the 2007 season: the 2008 competitors’ field will be more alluring than ever before and the two Raeder-Lamborghinis will certainly be a lot more than just interesting colour spots.

One month ago we reported (http://www.planetlemans.com/2007/12/14/going-dutch-driver-updates/) that Peter Kox was set to return to the FIA GT Championship with the Reiter Engineering Lamborghini Murciélago and that there were also plans to race the car in the Le Mans Series.
On Monday Reiter Engineering confirmed their plans and announced that they will indeed enter a Lamborghini Murciélago R-GT in the FIA GT Championship, the Le Mans Series and that they are also hoping for an entry for the Le Mans 24 Hours in June.
Reiter Engineering has secured the financial backing of a Russian bank which enables the team to compete in all races for the next three seasons.
The complete driver line-up for the series have not been announced yet, but it is possible that Peter Kox will be joined by Alexey Vasiliev in the Le Mans Series as the Russian driver has been part of the Convers Racing Team for the last couple of years and partnered Peter Kox in the Convers Menx Ferrari 550 Maranello in the 2006 Le Mans Series season. For the FIA GT Championship there is also a possibility that Reiter’s 2007 line-up of Kox and Menten will be retained.
More news about the final line-up when available…
UPDATE: No Alexey Vasiliev behind the wheel of the Lamborghini, instead Roman Rusinov will partner Peter Kox in the Le Mans Series this season.

Natrad Racing Clean Sweeps At Queensland To Rejoin Championship Fight
http://www.nmd.com.au/images/newsimages/articleimages/D0C1A25D-BDBD-563B-9203116AE52AF637.jpg Photo: Dirk KlynsmithNATRAD Racing driver Bryce Washington (http://www.nmd.com.au/news2/news_select_driver.cfm?driver=140&name=Bryce Washington) has closed to within four points of the Australian GT Championship points lead following a hat-trick of race wins at Queensland Raceway (http://www.nmd.com.au/racetracks_detail.cfm?id=10) today.

Washington, 22, drove his Natrad Racing Lamborghini (http://www.nmd.com.au/news2/news_select_make.cfm?make=9&name=Lamborghini) Gallardo to three commanding race victories today – his third, fourth and fifth in a row this season – after taking pole position by almost a full second yesterday.

Washington’s 500hp V10 Gallardo beat Danish ace Allan Simonsen (http://www.nmd.com.au/news2/news_select_driver.cfm?driver=189&name=Allan Simonsen) to the line in race one by just over two seconds before holding on to win race two despite a late race scare – when the cars gearshift selection refused to work – when David Wall closed to within three tenths at the line.

Rebounding well, the Natrad driver went on to win the third race by four seconds to complete a perfect weekend that also included a new Queensland Raceway (http://www.nmd.com.au/racetracks_detail.cfm?id=10) GT Championship lap record – a storming 1m11.6923s – in the first race.

At the mid way point of the Australian GT Championship Washington now trails series leader Simonsen by just four points.

“It’s been a fantastic weekend,” Washington said.

”Qualifying was fantastic. I was able to get a clear lap and put a good lap together. It was a great feeling but I was a bit surprised that Allan and David weren’t closer to us.

”Race two was quite dramatic at the end because the car ran into problems with the Gear Selection and the ABS. I was taking it pretty easy lapping some cars and the thing just slowed up. Fortunately I was able to bring the car home in front which was great.

”In the third race I went out hard early to build up as big a margin as possible in case the problem came back.

”It didn’t and I got the win which is brilliant.” He enthused.

Washington said that he was similarly pleased to right back in the championship fight at the half-way point of the series.

”Obviously the year didn’t start brilliantly for us,” Bryce said.

”At A1GP the Porsche (http://www.nmd.com.au/news2/news_select_make.cfm?make=4&name=Porsche) wasn’t competitive and at Clipsal we were still working out the Lambo and trying to get it on the money.

“At Bathurst it all came together and from there it’s been fantastic. The guys at Natrad Racing have done an awesome job so all credit to them.

“There is still more to come from the car, I don’t think we’ve got the most out if it, so the second half of the year should be great.” He warned.

The Australian GT Championship will take a two-month hiatus over the winter before returning to action at the high speed Phillip Island (http://www.nmd.com.au/racetracks_detail.cfm?id=6) Grand Prix Circuit in Victoria, in late August.

Washington will be in action next in the Australian Carrera Cup Championship at Hidden Valley Raceway (http://www.nmd.com.au/racetracks_detail.cfm?id=9) – in Darwin – this June.

A Future Race Winner - Natrad Lambo Makes Noise At Clipsal
http://www.nmd.com.au/images/newsimages/articleimages/2E469999-BDBD-563B-917565E25ACC5D15.jpg
"When this car is fully developed, it will be a race winner."

That's the word from Natrad Racing driver Bryce Washington (http://www.nmd.com.au/news2/news_select_driver.cfm?driver=140&Name=Bryce Washington) following the Australian racing debut of his brand new Lamborghini (http://www.nmd.com.au/news2/news_select_make.cfm?make=9&Name=Lamborghini) Gallardo GT3 in this
weekend's second round of the Australian GT Championship.

At his home event, the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide, 22-year-old Washington made the debut of the 535hp Lamborghini (http://www.nmd.com.au/news2/news_select_make.cfm?make=9&Name=Lamborghini) and - despite a number of teething problems featuring the vehicle's electrics and gearshift mechanism - was
buoyed by the exoticar's potential.

In qualifying Bryce lapped within a second of pole position, his time of
1m25.9928s good enough for third place on the grid.

The car ran strongly for the first few laps of the second race, before slowing due to a number of gear shifting issues that hindered the performance - Washington eventually coming across the line in 14th position
with a lot of work ahead of him for race two.

That second race proved the fighting qualities of both car and driver, Bryce making quick work of the field to scythe his way through to third position
well before the end of the race.

Washington also scored third in the final race of the weekend this morning
and secured a top five round result.

After a strong performance (driving his old Porsche (http://www.nmd.com.au/news2/news_select_make.cfm?make=4&Name=Porsche) GT3) in the opening round of the championship, Washington is now ideally poised to make a run on
the title he won in 2005.

Points' leader Alan Simonsen is unlikely to return to the series this year
due to international racing commitments.

"It was all just niggling technical problems that we had this weekend,"
Washington said following the cars' debut performance.

"There are a couple of problems we found out relating to the gearbox and also to the fuel system, but we managed to work through them.

"This weekend was really a learning experience for the team and I, so to
come away with a couple of podium finishes is a good result.

"The car is simply phenomenal to drive. It's so aero dependant it makes turn 8 (The high speed sweeper) amazing and very, very fast. Once we work out all its quirks it is going to be a very good car," he said.

"I can't wait to get to Bathurst - it should be incredible around there."

Washington also took his ADRAD Racing Porsche (http://www.nmd.com.au/news2/news_select_make.cfm?make=4&Name=Porsche) GT3 Cup Car to a strong performance in the opening round of the Carrera Cup championship.

Now driving with the ultra successful Paul Cruickshank racing organisation, Washington finished inside the top ten to gain a solid haul of championship
points for his campaign in the all-Porsche series.

Washington's Natrad-supported Lamborghini (http://www.nmd.com.au/news2/news_select_make.cfm?make=9&Name=Lamborghini) team will continue to develop the car before the next round of the Australian GT Championship, set to be held at the Bathurst International Motor Festival over the Easter Long Weekend.

Bryce Washington To Make Australian Debut Of Lamborghini Gallardo At The Clipsal 500
http://www.nmd.com.au/images/newsimages/articleimages/FAE1B88F-BDBD-563B-9E6B83FD495BD526.jpg ADRAD Racing and their South Australian driver Bryce Washington (http://www.nmd.com.au/news2/news_select_driver.cfm?driver=140&Name=Bryce Washington) will debut at brand-new Lamborghini (http://www.nmd.com.au/news2/news_select_make.cfm?make=9&Name=Lamborghini) Gallardo GT3 in the second round of the 2007 Australian GT Championship, at the Clipsal 500 on March 1 - 4.

After two years of campaigning Porsche (http://www.nmd.com.au/news2/news_select_make.cfm?make=4&Name=Porsche) GT3s in the local GT Championship - that included a win in the 2005 series and multiple Porsche (http://www.nmd.com.au/news2/news_select_make.cfm?make=4&Name=Porsche) Drivers Challenge titles - Bryce will step into the Reiter Engineering constructed
Gallardo for the first time at his home event.

The Gallardo, often known as the 'baby Lambo', packs a 500hp punch from a 5-litre (mid mounted) V10 engine with the power being delivered to all four wheels via a six-speed, paddle shift sequential gearbox.

The car has already proven successful in the European GT3 Championship - racing against powerhouses such as Porsche, Ferrari (http://www.nmd.com.au/news2/news_select_make.cfm?make=13&Name=Ferrari) and Dodge - and will give Bryce the added ammunition needed to try and regain the Australian GT
title he won in 2005.

It is expected to be the Australian racing debut for the car after Washington's car was air freighted in from Germany last week, leaving the ADRAD Racing team just a few days to prepare the car for the rigours of
street racing.

Bryce finished on the podium in the first round for 2007 held at Eastern Creek (http://www.nmd.com.au/racetracks_detail.cfm?id=2) Raceway recently, driving his Porsche, and will look to go one better
at Clipsal with a debut win in the new Lamborghini.

The Clipsal field will be one of the strongest GT fields in Australia seen to date, with Allan Simonsen (http://www.nmd.com.au/news2/news_select_driver.cfm?driver=189&Name=Allan Simonsen) in a Ferrari (http://www.nmd.com.au/news2/news_select_make.cfm?make=13&Name=Ferrari) 360GT, Greg Crick in a Dodge Viper, David Wall in a Porsche (http://www.nmd.com.au/news2/news_select_make.cfm?make=4&Name=Porsche) RSR, Peter Hackett (http://www.nmd.com.au/news2/news_select_driver.cfm?driver=121&Name=Peter Hackett) in a Lamborghini (http://www.nmd.com.au/news2/news_select_make.cfm?make=9&Name=Lamborghini) and Washington's new Gallardo all expected to be contending for race
wins.

Washington, 22, will also debut new sponsorship support from Natrad
Radiators at the Clipsal 500 event.

"It's exciting to be able to debut our new car at the Clipsal 500,"
Washington said today.

"With the Porsche (http://www.nmd.com.au/news2/news_select_make.cfm?make=4&Name=Porsche) we lacked the horsepower of the Dodge, the Lamborghini (http://www.nmd.com.au/news2/news_select_make.cfm?make=9&Name=Lamborghini) and the Ferrari, but with our new Gallardo GT3 I'm confident that we will have the package we need to take us back to the front in the championship we won
two years ago.

"It is an amazing looking car. If it goes as quick as it looks it'll be
brilliant!" He said.

Despite the appeal of the new car, Washington said that it would still be a
demanding debut event for the new machinery.

"It will be a tough weekend at the Clipsal event," he cautioned.

"The car has only just arrived in Australia so it's not going to give us
much time to get a handle on it and how to set it up.

"Clipsal will be a pretty steep learning curve as we try to learn the car
and develop it to how we'd like it to perform."

Washington will again be doing double duties in 2007, recently agreeing to drive for the championship winning Paul Cruickshank Racing Carrera Cup
outfit, in his ADRAD Radiators Porsche (http://www.nmd.com.au/news2/news_select_make.cfm?make=4&Name=Porsche) GT3 Cup Car.

This will mean that the local ace from Adelaide's Eastern Suburbs will have
dual chances at success come next weekend.

"Clipsal is the event you want to perform well at, so to have two chances at
it will be excellent," Washington enthused.

"The PCR Carrera Cup team is fantastic and I'm confident that we'll have a good run in that series. The new car for the GT Championship will also be a
bonus and really give us two chances at success.

"It's going to be a huge event... I really can't wait." He said.

Early season start in Australia
Ross Lilley in upward trend
Ross Lilley contested the first round of the Australian GT Championship
in Eastern Creek as sole Lamborghini representative. As part of the A1
GP Series supporting programme three sprint races were scheduled for
the mixed GT field. Lilley, who only entered the series at the end of the
2007 season with the GT3 Gallardo, claimed sixth position on the grid for
the first race.
Lilley also finished the first 12 lap sprint race in this position. The second
race of the weekend was held over the slightly longer distance of 17 laps.
Ross Lilley’s improving form in his Koala Furniture Lamborghini Gallardo
saw him take fourth place at the flag. In the final 12 lap race on Sunday
afternoon he repeated his race two performance. Ross Lilley recorded his
fastest lap of 1:36.0946 minutes during the first race on Saturday. As a
result he was only nine tenths off his best qualifying time.
In almost two weeks the second Australian GT Championship event the
Clipsal 500 in Adelaide is held. Ross Lilley now holds fourth place after
three races.

Two Gallardo now in thick of the action
A significantly larger field arrived at the second round of the Australian
GT Championship in Adelaide for the Clipsal 500. Although Ross Lilley
was the Gallardo camp’s lone fighter in Eastern Creek, he received
support this time from debutant Mark Eddy, who had acquired the car of
Bryce Washington. In qualifying the two matadors positioned themselves
at the front of the field in 4th place (Lilley) and 6th place (Eddy).
In the first race over 11 laps Eddy showed that he is a quick learner. In
front of 82,200 spectators on early Saturday morning the Australian
finished fourth closely followed by brand team mate Ross Lilley.
However, there was little time to relax between races as the second race
of the weekend followed in the afternoon. Eddy and Lilley repeated their
solid performances from the morning and finished in the same order in
fourth and fifth positions respectively.
On Sunday the event organisers counted 91,700 motorsport fans filling
the grandstands. A 12 lap sprint at 9:25 a.m. local time was on the
Australian GT Championship agenda. The huge numbers of spectators
would not be disappointed. Mark Eddy was able to improve on his
excellent results harvested on his debut weekend and claimed the first
podium finish in 2008 for Lamborghini in Australia. Ross Lilley held
station behind and took the chequered flag in fourth position.
After two events and six races Ross Lilley now holds second place
overall in the championship behind 2007 title holder Alan Simonsen in a
Ferrari. Mark Eddy enters the series in sixth place.
The current standings:
1st Allan Simonsen Ferrari 430 GT3 240 points

2nd Ross Lilley Lamborghini Gallardo GT3 144 points
3rd Scott Bargwann Lotus Elise 96 points

4th Craig Baird Ferrari 360 GT 92 points

Four podium finishes boost Lamborghini
The Australian GT Championship grid continues to grow. Twenty-eight
GT3 cars appeared for the third event of the 2008 season which was part
of the Formula 1 GP support programme. Mark Eddy and Ross Lilley,
second in the Drivers’ Championship prior to the Melbourne, represented
the colours of the Lamborghini bull.
Qualifying gave cause for optimism. Both Gallardo GT3 cars were
classified in the top ten. Mark Eddy claimed third position on the grid only
four tenths-of-a-second off pole, Ross Lilley qualified ninth.
Four sprint races were on the agenda this time for the drivers. Mark Eddy
took his second successive podium for Lamborghini with third position in
the first eight lap race. Lilley finished the race in 20th place. Eddy
continued the upward trend in the second race. After the competition at
the head of the field had a slight territorial disagreement, Mark Eddy
forced his way to the front and claimed second position. Ross Lilley was
credited with a retirement.
The weekend’s third race was a turbulent affair. The safety car was
deployed twice to neutralise the race after accidents. Mark Eddy kept a
cool head throughout and fought his way steadily to the front during the
green racing laps. At the flag Eddy clinched his first victory in the
Gallardo and the first Lamborghini victory in the Australian GT
Championship in 2008. Ross Lilley completed the successful race with
seventh place. Lilley was in top form and fought his way to the front after
having retired from the second race.

The European racing season started with mixed fortunes for Lamborghini
in the national GT3 championships in France, Great Britain and Italian.
FFSA GT3: Victory and panel damage part 1
The 2008 race season opened for First Racing and James Ruffier Racing
in Nogaro. A total of 23 cars appeared with the aim of scoring the first
points of the year. However, the race was over in the first corner for the
most successful Gallardo team Dubreuil / Briche (First Racing). In
qualifying the two drivers were able to clinch a slot on the front row,
unfortunately, however, Bruno Dubreuil’s race on Saturday ended in
retirement after an accident.
David Tuchbant in the sister First Gallardo took the role and held position
in the leading group. After Antoine Leclerc took the controls he increased
the pressure on the leader and eventually took victory for Lamborghini in
the opening FFSA GT3 race of the season. The Ruffier Gallardos finished
the race in 14th place (Miloe / Miloe) and 19th (Cabanne / Sourd).
In race two it appeared as if Antoine Leclerc would repeat his win.
However, after race long hard but fair battles the First Racing driver lost
four places to the strong competition. Tuchbant / Leclerc claimed fifth
place in the 20 strong GT3 field at the flag. The James Ruffier Gallardos
of Miloe / Miloe and Cabanne / Sourd took the chequered flag in 18th and
20th positions respectively.
Championship standings after two races:
1st Ruffier / Peyroles Dodge Viper 36 points
2nd Campbell / Jakubowski Ferrari 430 34 points
3rd Leclerc/ Tuchbant Lamborghini Gallardo 34 points
4th Rosier / Morel Dodge Viper 30 points

Two podiums in Belgium, top-ten result in England
Belcar: Two podiums mark opener
Danny de Laet in the JD by Astromega Gallardo clinched the best
qualifying position of the four Lamborghini Gallardo during the first
Mediagroep van Dyck Belcar Series race weekend in Zolder. On his
debut in the Gallardo de Laet took third position on the grid for the first
race only two-tenths behind pole position. The JD by Astromega squad
also recorded the fastest Lamborghini time in second qualifying with Tim
Verbergt taking sixth position.
In wet conditions at the start Tim Verbergt held a position in the leading
group, but dropped out of the top-ten after the pit stops. A stop-and-go
penalty as a result of the pit-stop falling below the minimum permitted
time was the cause. Cautious driving brought Haane / van Hool slowly
but surely to the front and they ended the opening Belcar round in an
incredible second place. De Laet / Verbergt were 12th, Dockerill /
Greensall /Chad Racing) crossed the line in 14th place.
Of the top five competitors in race two on Sunday afternoon only
van Hool (#10 Astromega Gallardo) survived the start undamaged. His
team mates landed in the gravel bed after the free-for-all entering the first
chicane. During the 60 minute race van Hool / Haane were able to fight
their way up to third place to claim another podium finish. After escaping
from the gravel bed the other three Gallardo teams chased the field and
claimed 11th (de Laet / Verbergt), 14th (Vollebergh / Thiers) and 19th
(Dockerill / Greensall) at the chequered flag after 350 laps.

British GT: Disasters in Great Britain
Spectators on the hillside surrounding Knockhill were treated to a
turbulent first race. A total of four Safety Car periods caused by various
spins and slip-ups resulted in the field bunching-up on several times. Tom
Ferrier in the Tech9 Gallardo had a short race. A spin at the first corner
threw Ferrier, who had started from seventh on the grid, to the back of
the field, a second ‘off’ on lap 8 signalled the end for the “Scotsman”.
The Tech9 crew couldn’t shake off the bad luck. After the round of
mandatory pit stops Jason Templeman held 2nd place but received a
stop-and-go penalty as his team sent him back into the race too early. At
Knockhill the minimum pit-stop time was 45 seconds, however, the Tech9
stop was too short. As a result, Templeman / Machitski dropped back to
6th position. The two new drivers, Ben de Zille Butler / Guy Harrington, in
the Team Modena Lamborghini Gallardo crossed the line two places
further back.
The Safety-Car driver was in action once again on Sunday, various
accidents on the slippery track kept him busy. Unfortunately, two Gallardo
drivers were the cause of one Safety-Car period. Just before entering the
pit lane to complete the mandatory pit-stop Guy Harrington (Team
Modena) tried to pass Leo Machitski (Tech9). The two Gallardo touched,
Harrington’s race ended in the gravel, and Machitski was able to continue
after losing a lot of time.
At the flag Machitski / Templeman occupied 12th position. Ferrier / Morley
in the second Tech9 Gallardo had an uneventful race on the way to
eighth position. Tom Ferrier and Oliver Morley are the best placed
Lamborghini drivers in the British GT Championship with 11 points in
eleventh position.

FFSA GT: Almost a perfect 10 for Lamborghini
After Tuchbant / Leclerc (First Racing) set the fastest time in free
practice, it was clear that the GT3 victory at the second round of the
French GT Championship at Ledenon would go the way of a Lamborghini
driver.
First Racing’s brace of Gallardo ended first qualifying in 3rd and 4th
positions, Ruffier Racing also kept up the symmetry by claiming thirteenth
and fourteenth start positions. The best Gallardo in second qualifying was
the Leclerc / Tuchbant driven example in second place.
The first of the two races was on the agenda for Saturday afternoon and
was easy prey for the First Racing squad which celebrated a perfect onetwo
victory. Leclerc / Tuchbant crossed the finish line as winner just after
the hour mark from team mates Briche / Dubreuil and Moureu / Parisy
(Ferrari 430). Ruffier Racing was credited with 9th and 12th at the finish for
its two Gallardo.
The spectators enjoyed a close finish on Sunday. Leclerc / Tuchbant
missed taking another victory by a mere second and had to be satisfied
with 2nd position behind Moureu / Parisy. Briche / Dubreuil finished race
two in fourth place. Ruffier Racing rounded off the second weekend in the
French GT Championship with 11th and 13th.
The Championship standings after Ledenon:
1st Leclerc / Tuchbant Lamborghini Gallardo 88 points
2nd Moreu / Parisy Ferrari 430 76 points
3rd Jakubowski / Campbel Ferrari 430 50 points
4th Brandela / Lorgere Roux Ferrari 430 48 points

Asia Supercar Challenge: One-two in Shanghai
Premiere in the Asia Supercar Challenge. The Lamborghini Gallardo GT3
developed and built by Reiter Engineering made its debut in Asia. The
first weekend in Shanghai was totally dominated by Eddie Yau Jr. who
claimed pole position before taking victory from various Ferraris and
Porsche competitors in both races.

3 victories in France and Italy
FFSA GT: Lamborghini remains atop the table
While First Racing defended the championship lead with Leclerc /
Tuchbant in the French GT Championship, Ruffier Racing, the second
Lamborghini team contesting the series, was able to celebrate its first
podium position.
Already during the first race of the third round it looked as if the
Lamborghini would score another victory. Julien Briche (First Racing) led
the GT3 field before a tyre failure cost him victory within sight of the
chequered flag. The drivers and team were rewarded with a disappointing
12th position and thoughts of what might have been. Smiles in
comparison for Ruffier Racing where Helary / Cabanne claimed their first
podium position for Ruffier with third place.
The revenge for Briche / Dubreuil followed in Sunday. They won by a
fabulous 27 seconds from the Dodge and Ferrari competition. Helary /
Cabanne were again in excellent form and secured 4th place. Tuchbant /
Leclerc in the First Racing Gallardo defended their lead at the head of the
FFSA GT GT3 table lead with 6th (race 1) and 12 (race 2).

Belcar: Second event at Dijon
The Belcar Lamborghini Gallardo travelled to the second meeting at Dijon
with 40 kg less on board. The three Lamborghini crews nevertheless had
a hard time around the roller-coaster circuit. Danny de Laet had to
spectate after crashing in free practice; Henk Haane / Mikke van Hool
were 13th in race 1, Kurt Thiers and Joost Vollebergh 19th. After finishing
in 11th position Thiers / Vollebergh were the best Gallardo team in race 2

Lamborghini shines in weather chaos
FIA-GT3 EM: Podium for Haase / Deverikos
Highs and lows were order of the day at the second round of the FIA GT3
European Championship in Monza. Tech9 lost a car in an accident during
practice, however success followed in the first 60 minute race.
Christopher Haase and Dimitrios Deverikos, sharing a cockpit for the first
time at Tech9, claimed a sensational podium finish in this extremely hard
fought championship after finishing second. The duo left over 30
competitors from Ferrari, Aston Martin, Corvette, Porsche, Jaguar and
Morgan in their wake. Another Lamborghini Gallardo fielded by S.Berg
Racing and driven by Luca Polato and Vadim Kuzminykh was classified
in 23rd position.
A rewarding Saturday was followed by a tragic Sunday. This time
Christopher Haase started the race and brought the Gallardo up to 10th
from 15th. Dimitrios Deverikos held the position and was on his way up
the leader board thanks to excellent tyre strategy before a torn drive-belt
unfortunately ended the race prematurely. Both S.Berg Racing Gallardo
GT3 saw the chequered flag this time. Knauss / Krailhamer were
classified in 17th position and Polato / Kuzminykh 19th.
The standing after two events:
1. Khan / Mutsch Ford GT 26 points
2. Peyroles / Ruffier Corvette Z06 24 points
3. Ellis Ford GT 22 points
4. Mortimer Ford GT 20 points
5. Forsten / Loix Porsche 997 Cup S 14 points

International GT Open: Wins 3 and 4 for Racing Box
Crazy weather in Spain too! The ProAm race on Saturday provided
everything from dry to wet. Andrea Ceccato and Marco Visconti held their
nerves and displayed true class by not only winning in the GTS class with
the Racing Box Gallardo but also by finishing in fifth place overall among
the more powerful GT2 cars.
The two Italians also won Sunday’s race in front of a crowd of 46,000.

From the start of the weekend, the Lamborghini showed their potential at
the famous Nuerburgring. They would be the cars to beat. So after the
first qualifying three Gallardo were in the first three places on the grid for
race one. Frank Schmickler (ARGO Racing) drove the fastest lap in
1.45,623 minutes, followed by Harald Becker (also ARGO Racing) and
Roman Rusinov (team flatex-reiter). With Albert von Thurn und Taxis
(team flatex-reiter) a further Gallardo driver was within the Top 10 (6th on
the grid).
The result of the second qualifying was even better. Six Lamborghini
Gallardo were present in the Top 10 of the grid. The pole position for race
2 was held by Peter Kox (team flatex-reiter) in front of Frank Kechele
(ARGO Racing). Jan Lammers qualified his team flatex-reiter Gallardo for
the second row (4th on the grid), followed by Christopher Haase (team
flatex-reiter) and Sebastian Asch (ARGO Racing). Michael Raja closed
the Top 10 with his MRP Motorsport car on 10th starting position.
An accident in the first corner of the first race on Friday mixed up the
ranking of the field. Pole setter Frank Schmickler kept the lead without
problems and started immediately to build up a gap.
Also parts of the leading group were his team mate Harald Becker and
Roman Rusinov of team flatex-reiter. All three Gallardo stayed in front
until the obligatory pit stops. But then the leading Gallardo of Schmickler /
Asch lost some seconds in the pit lane and came back on track at second
position. Peter Kox, with good chances to win this first race of the
weekend, had to park his GT3 Lamborghini only a few laps before the
chequered flag after some stones (a car in front of him went through a
gravel trap) destroyed the front coolers.
But the 60 minutes race still had been a success for Lamborghini. While
Sebastian Asch crossed the line in second position, Frank Kechele came
home in third, Jan Lammers in fourth and Christopher Haase in fifth
place. . Haase / von Thurn und Taxis lost some places after a spin in the
first lap, but came back into the leading group after a series of very fast
laps.
Also in the second race of the weekend in front of a big number of
spectators at the 24hrs of the Nuerburgring two Gallardo finished onto the
podium. After second and third place on Friday, a victory was the result of
Saturday´s race. Peter Kox and Roman Rusinov were the dominating
drivers from start to finish and scored the first victory for Lamborghini in
the ADAC GT Masters 2008.
Third after 60 minutes were Christopher Haase and Albert von Thurn und
Taxis. With this superb result they stepped up to second in the driver
point standings of the championship.
Especially for Haase, this second race had a hot moment, as a car, which
should be overtaken by Haase, slowed down unexpected and the young
German driver had to pass him on the grass. Also Becker / Kechele (8th)
finished into the points. Two more Gallardo came home in the top 10.
Ritskes / Lammers had a 9th, Raja / Stiefel a 10th place as their result in
race 2.
The point standings after four races:
1. Bergmeister Porsche 997 Cup S 22 pints
2. Haase / von Thurn u. Taxis Lamborghini Gallardo 18 points
-. Heyer / Hennerici Ford GT 18 points
-. Von Gartzen / Mutsch Ford GT 18 points
3. Becker / Kechele Lamborghini Gallardo 15 points
4. Schmickler / Asch Lamborghini Gallardo 14 points
-. J. Bergmeister Porsche 997 Cup S 14 points
5. Kox / Rusinov Lamborghini Gallardo 10 points

6. Rodrigues Aston Martin DBRS9 9 points
7. Basseng Porsche 997 Cup S 8 points
8. Rodrigues / Accary Aston Martin DBRS9 7 points
Team flatex-reiter is 3rd in the team ranking now with 25 points in front of
ARGO Racing with 20 points. MRP Motorsport is scored on 8th place.
Christopher Haase and Albert von Thurn und Taxis are the leaders of the
Lamborghini challenge in front of Becker / Kechele and Asch /
Schmickler.

British GT: Pole Position property of Lamborghini
Snetterton was venue for rounds 7 and 8 of the British GT Championship
last weekend. It was Leo Machitski and Jonathan Cocker who were once
again the best Lamborghini team in first qualifying for Saturday
afternoon’s race. They secured a place on the second row after recording
the third fastest lap in the Tech9 Lamborghini Gallardo. The Team
Modena Gallardo, driven by Ben de Zille Butler and Guy Harrington, was
directly behind. Piers Johnson / Adam Jones (Team Modena) would start
round 7 from tenth place, Oliver Morley / Tom Ferrier (Tech9) started
from 12th position.
In second qualifying the Gallardo of Johnson / Jones claimed a front row
position and were, as a result, the fastest regular British GT
Championship competitors despite being beaten by guest starters
Mortimer / Elli in a Ford GT. Machitski / Cocker qualified fifth, while
Morley / Ferrier and de Zille Butler / Harrington landed in 15th and 16th
positions.
The first one-hour race on Saturday was once again dominated by the
Safety Car. This time it was the turn of Leo Machitski / Jonathan Cocker
to suffer from the race being neutralised. After spinning at the start of the
race the Tech9 drivers were making great strides towards the front. After
taking fourth position the race stewards dispatched the Safety Car
following the accident of an opponent and, in doing so, slowed the
progress of Machitski / Cocker. In the few remaining minutes they were
unable to fight there way onto the podium and finished fourth. Jones /
Johnson (Team Modena) took the flag in 8th position, Morley / Ferrier
(Tech9) were classified 13th, and De Zille Butler / Harrington were forced
to retire due to engine problems with their Gallardo.
Machitski / Cocker remained the highest placed Lamborghini Gallardo
team in the British GT Championship on Sunday. With sixth place they
left Snetterton with a brace of points scoring finishes. Adam Jones held
second place overall for a long time, but unfortunately Jones / Johnson
had to retire on lap 21. However, Tech9 brought both cars home with
Ferrier / Morley taking the flag again in 13th place.
Italian GT: One-two in race two at Magione!
MIK Corse brought four Lamborghini Gallardo GT3 cars to Magione for
rounds 5 and 6 in the Italian GT Championship. The Gallardo drivers
raised eyebrows in both free practice sessions after setting fast times.
Giacomo Piccini and Fabrizio Armetta went on to repeat this performance
in first qualifying. The front row for the GT3 race was occupied solely by
Lamborghini. Piccini recorded a 1:11.680, Armetta was six tenths behind.
The competition from Ferrari, Dodge, Aston Martin, Corvette and Porsche
had already lost its first small battle.
In second qualifying Matteo Grassotto put the fastest Gallardo in third
place.
In spite of their perfect grid positions the MIK Corse drivers were unable
to claim victory in the first race. Unfortunately, the fastest Gallardo of
Piccini / Grassotto retired after only four laps. As result, it was up to
Ferdinand Geri / Fabrizio Armetta to save the day. They finished the 39
lap race with a solid fifth place. However, the raging bulls struck back on
Sunday with a one-two. After 36 laps Geri / Armetta took the flag in front
of Cedric Sbirazzuoli / Marzio Romano. The first competitor from another
factory crossed the line 13 seconds after the second MIK Corse Gallardo.
After six races it is now Sbirazzuoli / Marzio who lead the GT3 category in
the Italian GT Championship.
The current points standings:
1. Sbirazzuoli / Marzio Lamborghini Gallardo 51 points
2. Perlini / Ardigo Dodge Viper 51 points
3. Sagniolo / de Pasquale Dodge Viper 35 points
4. Earle / Kessel Ferrari 430 34 points

The Tech9 Lamborghini Gallardo of Tom Ferrier and Leo Machitski held
sway during free practice at Thruxton, however disappointment followed
in qualifying. Qualifying for round 9 finished with 10th (Guy Harrington),
12th (Leo Machitski) and 15th (Piers Johnson). Only one team could
improve in qualifying for round 10. Tom Ferrier took 8th position for
Tech9.
The British GT Championship field rolled-out on Saturday for the ninth
race of the season. Piers Johnson and Adam Jones took fourth place in
yet another race interrupted by a safety car period. Machitski / Ferrier
retired after an off-course excursion, Harrington / de Zille Butler retired
due to a technical problem.

Engine problems prevented the three Gallardo fielded by Tech9 and
Team Modena from appearing for race two on Sunday.

Success and failure were never far apart during the first ever street race
on the ADAC GT Masters calendar held at the Norisring. While
Christopher Haase and Albert von Thurn und Taxis retired from the first
race due to driver error in their #1 flatex team reiter Lamborghini
Gallardo, team mates Jan Lammers and Marius Ritskes took advantage
of this misfortune by taking 2nd position and their first podium finish. The
safety car deployed after the accident allowed Lammers / Ritskes to close
up on the leaders and remain within striking distance. Peter Kox and
Roman Rusinov finished 14th in the third flatex team reiter Gallardo after
succumbing to tyre failure.

In the second race Haase / von Thurn und Taxis appeared in the repaired
Gallardo and, in spite of a Stop & Go penalty, finished second and in
doing so kept their championship hopes alive. However, the race was
overshadowed by the violent accident of Peter Kox and Frank Kechele
(ARGO Lamborghini). Both cars were heavily damaged. Frank Kechele
suffered bruising, while Reiter Engineering driver Peter Kox sustained leg
injuries which will be examined more thoroughly on Monday in Holland.
Peter Kox’s participation in the GT1 Murciélago this coming weekend at

A race weekend could not have run better. The Lamborghini teams First
Racing and Ruffier Racing claimed two pole positions and won both of
the one-hour races. On Saturday a one-two in front of arch rival Ferrari
was the result.
Three of the five Gallardo present at Val de Vienne claimed the first three
positions in first qualifying. Ruffier / Peyrolles took the first pole position
for Ruffier Racing followed by Briche / Dubreuil and Tuchbant / Leclerc
(both First Racing). Second qualifying was then dominated by Ruffier
Racing. Peyrolles / Ruffier took pole again from team mates Cabannes /
Helary.
Peyrolles / Ruffier also won the first race. Despite the superior GT1 and
GT2 competition the two Frenchman hauled their GT3 Gallardo up to
ninth overall and in doing so won the GT3 class, which is wellrepresented
by seventeen cars in the French GT3 Championship.
Tuchbant / Leclerc rounded off the successful opening race for
Lamborghini by crossing the finish line a mere second in front of another
First Racing Gallardo with Cabannes / Helary in 3rd position.

Peyrolles / Ruffier finished another two places higher up in the general
classification on Sunday. Seventh overall and win number 2 in GT3 was
the result after one hour. As a result the Ruffier drivers also took the
championship lead.

Both the British Tech9 squad and S.Berg Racing from Austria each
brought a pair of Lamborghini Gallardo GT3 to the third GT3 European
Championship event at Oschersleben.
Christopher Haase and Albert von Thurn und Taxis in #47 Tech9
Gallardo exploited their home advantage to the full. They were in the
thick of the action from the opening minutes of first practice. The
crowning moment followed in first qualifying as Haase claimed pole
position for race 1. His immediate rivals were almost half-a-second
behind the German. Max Cattori in the second Tech9 car qualified on the
fifth row, Hans Knauss in S.Berg Gallardo in 13th position and Vadim
Kuzminykh 26th overall in the 41 car field.
Number 47 was again the best Gallardo crew in second qualifying. Albert
von Thurn und Taxis recorded a time of 1:29.944 minutes which meant
13th place. Dominik Kraihamer was only six-tenths behind to secure 19th
position for the #14 S.Berg Gallardo. Team mate Luca Pilato took 24th
position on the grid.
In the first race on Saturday, start driver Christopher Haase was forced
off the track by two competitors at the first corner and dropped down the
field to thirteenth place. However, Haase never gave up and fought his
way into the top-ten again. Albert von Thurn und Taxis took the cockpit in
the second-half of the race and brought the Gallardo home in 4th place.
Knauss / Kraihamer were classified 16th after the 60 minute race,
Kuzminykh / Pilato were 21st.
Victory was the target for the second race on Sunday. Things looked
good for the Tech9 Gallardo of Haase / von Thurn und Taxis up to the
first pit-stop. However, a safety car period immediately after their pit-stop

Belcar: Third podium for Lamborghini

Danny de Laet and Tim Verbergt (JD by Astromega) was the most
successful Lamborghini Gallardo GT3 team at the fourth round of the
Belcar championship at Spa-Francorchamps. They were among the
leading contenders throughout all the free practice sessions and
underlined their target of finishing on the podium by taking fourth on the
grid for race one which was held on Friday afternoon. Kurt Thiers / Joost
Vollebergh qualified the #5 JD by Astromega Gallardo in 16
th position,
Henk Haane and Patrick Ceusters would start the 60 minute race from
22

nd place.
In second qualifying the roles were reversed: Haane / Ceusters were the
fastest Gallardo drivers this time, their 2:49.707 minute lap in the pouring
rain clinched third place on the grid for race two. De Laet / Vollebergh set
the ninth fastest time, Vollebergh / Thiers settled for 11

th position.
Tim Verbergt (#15 JD by Astromega Gallardo) made a perfect start on
Friday by out accelerating the pole-winning Mosler in the run to the first
corner and held second place during the opening stages. A Safety Car
period following an accident between two competitors bunched-up the
field. The Safety Car was still on-track when the mandatory pit-stop
window opened at half-distance. Co-driver Danny de Laet stayed with the
leading group. Unfortunately the Gallardo received a Stop & Go penalty
which threw de Laet / Verbergt down to 10

th place at the flag. Vollebergh /
Thiers and Haane / Ceusters took 14

th and 15th respectively.

Revenge for missing a top-position came on Saturday. The weekend’s
second race was also interrupted by the Safety Car. However, this did not
unsettle Verbergt / de Laet and they duly brought their Gallardo home in
third place. Haane / Ceusters finished 14

th again.

British GT: Solid weekend for Team Modena

Only one Lamborghini driver duo, Ben de Zille Butler and Guy Harrington,
participated in rounds 11 and 12 of the British GT Championship at
Brands Hatch. Both de Zille Butler and Harrington qualified in the top-ten
and repeated this form in the races. On Saturday the Team Modena pair
finished sixth, on Sunday they improved by one position to take fifth.

Brazilian GT3: Victory at last!

Ingo Hoffmann and Paulo Bonifacio celebrated their first win of the 2008
season at Interlagos. Despite running at reduced speed over the final
laps Hoffmann / Bonifacio won the first race by 14 seconds from the
following competition. Although they scored no points in the second race
Hoffman / Bonifacio retained third place in the championship standings.
In the four events held to date Lamborghini Gallardo teams have claimed
two wins and a total of four podium finishes.
The current championship standings:
1. Negrao / Mattheis Dodge Viper 50 points

Australian GT: Double podium

After a four month break the Australian GT Championship finally got
underway again at Eastern Creek. Three Lamborghini Gallardo GT3s
driven by Ross Lilley, Mark Eddy and Ted Huglin participated in the fourth
event.
Mark Eddy put the Quartermaster Gallardo on the second row, two
places further back on the grid was Ross Lilley and Ted Huglin started
the first sprint race from 16

th position. While Eddy maintained position
throughout the 12 lap first race, Lilley moved up a position and was fifth
at the flag. Huglin also moved forward and finished fifteenth.
Mark Eddy also mounted the podium after the twelve lap second race.
Eddy took the chequered flag in third position only four seconds behind
the winner. Sixth place went to Ross Lilley in the Laminex Gallardo, Ted
Huglin gained more experience to finish 14

th.
Ross Lilley presented Lamborghini with its second podium finish in the
third race of the weekend. Lilley saw the chequer in third place after 19

The fourth round of the ADAC GT Masters in Assen, Holland, would bring the best results this year to date for team flatex-reiter. Two Lamborghini Gallardo GT3s were fielded by Team Boss Hans Reiter. Christopher Haase / Albert von Thurn und Taxis formed the duo with the start number 1; Jan Lammers and Marius Ritskes were at the wheel of the number 11 car.
Saturday afternoon’s qualifying was dominated by the Italian brand. On a damp track Albert von Thurn und Taxis and Marius Ritskes had the task of qualifying the Gallardo for the first race. In the second half of first qualifying it was Albert von Thurn und Taxis who became the first driver to break the 2 minute barrier. The 25-year old improved again to record a 1:59.083 minute lap time and in doing so claimed his first GT3 pole position! Marius Ritskes took 5th position on the grid for his home race.
The results in second qualifying, which determined the grid positions for Sunday’s race, were even better. Despite the increasing rainfall the team flatex-reiter drivers once again came out on top. Christopher Haase lapped quickly from the beginning and remained in the leading group throughout the session. The twenty minute qualifying session developed into a battle between Haase and Hennerici in a Ford GT. Haase threw caution to the wind on his last lap and secured the team’s second pole position of the weekend. Jan Lammers put his Gallardo in third position.
Race 1 was unexpectedly short. The Safety Car was deployed by the race stewards after an accident involving one of the competitors. The race was only restarted with 22 minutes to go. Starting drivers Albert von Thurn und Taxis and Marius Ritskes had handed over their Gallardos during the Safety
Car period, so that Christopher Haase and Jan Lammers could at least run unhindered from traffic. As soon as the green flag was waved both team flatex-reiter drivers pulled away from the field immediately. They were able to complete the remaining laps in adverse conditions without risk and duly took the team’s first one-two.
“A fantastic result for us this weekend. Everything ran perfectly. Albert made
an excellent start before losing his advantage due to the Safety Car period.
At the restart I was able to pull away again. I pushed immediately and was
close to the limit. I was only able to reduce my pace a little and drive more
controlled towards the end,” said a delighted Christopher Haase about his
victory. “That was a well-earned victory for Christopher and Albert today.
They were clearly quicker than us today,” said Jan Lammers in paying tri-
bute to his team mates and clearly enjoying another podium fi nish.
Both team fl atex-reiter Lamborghini Gallardos would occupy the front row
for race 2. Like Saturday, Christopher Haase pulled away immediately with
Jan Lammers close behind. After only a few laps the lead was already 8.7
seconds and continued to grow. Christopher Haase was able to increase
his pace a little more and in doing so pulled away from Jan Lammers. The
mandatory pit stops followed on lap 16 (#1) and 17 (#11). The running
order remained unchanged after the fi eld had settled down following the
round of pit stops. Albert von Thurn und Taxis held a 30 second lead in fi rst
place from Marius Ritskes and controlled the competition.
After 29 laps the second one-two for team fl atex-reiter was in the bag.
Christopher Haase / Albert von Thurn und Taxis won from Marius Ritskes
/ Jan Lammers. “The race was great fun today,” said Christopher Haase.
“The car and tyres were perfect today, and we are now leading the champi-
onship. What more could we possibly ask for?” Albert von Thurn und Taxis
fought with curious problems: “With such a large lead I didn’t have to drive
on the limit anymore, but then you lose concentration and the danger of
making a mistake grows. However, we’ve won again, a perfect weekend!”
Jan Lammers and Marius Ritskes fought with an ABS failure on the Gallar-
do, but were nevertheless able to fi nish second. Haase / von Thurn und
Taxis now lead the standings with 46 points, Ritskes / Lammers are second
with 29 points.

InterProgressBank Spartak Racing travelled to the FIA GT Championship
season highlight in Spa-Francorchamps, Belgium. The white Lamborghini Murciélago R-GT, fielded by Reiter Engineering, boasts a top driver line-up. Peter Kox (NL), Roman Rusinov (RUS), Jan Lammers (NL) and Tomas Enge (CZ) were the four professional drivers
signed for the 24-hour long hunt around the picturesque track.
Jan Lammers and Tomas Enge made their first exploratory laps in the Murciélago in free practice and Pre-Qualifying on Thursday.
“Although I only drove a few laps on Thursday I’m familiar
with similar car concepts and was able to get to grips quickly with the cat,” says Tomas Enge. The Lamborghini quartet improved
their lap time from 2:19.413 in the practice sessions to 2:15.281 minutes during Friday’s final qualifying session.
Apart from a sticking brake caliper on Thursday evening,
IPB Spartak Racing could conclude the test work without
problems. Peter Kox and Jan Lammers contested the third forty-five minute qualifying session on Friday and put the Lamborghini Murciélago eighth on the strong GT1 grid.
“Friday was very good for us,” stated Team Director Hans Reiter after qualifying. “We are a good two seconds quicker than we were during the Le Mans Series at the same location two months ago.”

IPB Spartak Racing successful at Spa
InterProgressBank Spartak Racing made the finish with the Lamborghini Murciélago R-GT on its first outing in the race twice around the clock at Spa, Belgium. In addition to the long race distance, the Russian team also took advantage of the peculiarity of points being awarded on three occasions throughout the race. Valuable points for the FIA GT Championship were collected at the 6, 12 and 24 hour marks.
The driver quartet of Roman Rusinov (RUS), Peter Kox (NL), Jan Lammers (NL) and Tomas Enge (CZ) posted a strong performance during the first half of the race. Starting from eighth position the IPB Spartak Racing crew worked its way up to fourth position despite the changeable weather. In the process, the drivers even outclassed the entire competition from Maserati, Corvette and Aston Martin. The lap times were as much as 2 seconds quicker than those of the competition.

Unfortunately, a gear-change problem on early Sunday morning ended IPB Spartak Racing’s march towards the front. The mechanics changed the Murciélago’s gearbox after completing 336 laps around the roller-coaster Spa-Francorchamps track in the Ardennes. However, in spite of this time consuming repair Rusinov, Kox, Lammers and Enge returned to the fray with renewed motivation and once again recorded extremely competitive lap times.

Reiter Engineering FIA-GT 06 / 2008 The #8 IPB Spartak Racing Lamborghini returned to the race in 14th position and had fought its way into the top-ten again by mid- day. Even an unscheduled pit-stop to change tyres after touching another car could not halt the forward progress. Although the rain increased during the fi nal two hours of this marathon, Peter Kox completed a double-stint on slick tyres. The GT1 Class rivals choo- se different rain tyres, but were unable to keep the Dutchman’s pace. The IPB Spartak Racing Lamborghini was occasionally as much as 5 seconds per lap faster than the rest of the fi eld. Thanks to this incredible effort the InterProgressBank Spartak Ra- cing Lamborghini Murciélago crossed the fi nish line in fi fth posi- tion in the GT1 class with Peter Kox at the wheel. "Every driver and the entire team dug deep and produced an incredible perfor- mance to make this result possible," says Hans Reiter of Reiter Engineering, which provided the technical support for this event.

The result: 1. Bartels/Bertolini/vd Poele/Sarrazin Maserati MC12 2. Ramos/Negrao/Lemeret/Pier Guidi Maserati MC12 3. Peter/Simonsen/Turner/Thompson Aston Martin DBR9 4. Aucott/Daoudi/Ferté Maserati MC12 5. Rusinov/Kox/Lammers/Enge Lamborghini 6. Fässler/Hezemans/Deletraz/Gollin Corvette C6.R

The FIA GT Championship held its sixth race of the season around the Parliament Buildings in the centre of the Rumanian
capital Bucharest. InterProgressBank Spartak Racing also took on the challenge of the very narrow and demanding street circuit. Following the 24-hours of Spa the regular driver line-up of Peter Kox and Roman Rusinov were again at the wheel.
The pair in the Reiter Engineering run #8 Lamborghini Murciélago
fought against the extremely high air and track temperatures
in Bucharest at the start of the weekend. In qualifying Kox claimed tenth position on the grid in the Murciélago for Saturday evening’s qualification race.
Peter Kox completed the first stint of the 60 minute long race in eighth position before handing over the GT1 Lamborghini
to Roman Rusinov on lap 25. The 26-year old from Moscow completed the second-half of the race and held 8th place till the finish. As a result IPB Spartak Racing scored points again for the FIA GT Championship after Spa.
The “Championship Race” on Sunday afternoon also started
promisingly. Peter Kox again started the race and fought his
way up to fi fth place. Rusinov took over on lap 26, unfortuna-
tely lost two places and took the chequered fl ag in seventh
position overall.
“Peter extracted the maximum today in these diffi cult conditions
where the air temperature exceeded 30 degrees and the track
temperature occasionally reached 50 degrees,” said Team
Boss Hans Reiter. “We were nevertheless not quick enough to
run at the front this weekend.”
IPB Spartak Racing will miss the next FIA GT Championship
round as the team will contest the Le Mans Series Race held
at Silverstone on the same weekend.

(from Lamborghini Press Release) The history of Lamborghini had been distinguished by the construction of extraordinary sports cars that had no need to draw on the experience – intriguing but also very expensive – of a Racing Department. From the very beginning, Ferruccio had made it clear that he had no intention of funding these expensive adventures and that was how the company had always operated.
The arrival of Chrysler, and of various executives who were hypnotised by the glamour of auto racing, changed this attitude as well. Towards the end of 1987, the French Formula 1 team Larrousse asked Mauro Forghieri, the celebrated designer of Ferrari’s finest models from the Sixties and Seventies, to create a new engine, and he turned to his good friends at Lamborghini with the proposal of embarking on the project together. After obtaining Chrysler’s approval, Forghieri designed his engine, a V12 with a 3.5-litre capacity, the maximum displacement allowed by regulations. A new parallel structure, separate from Lamborghini and named Lamborghini Engineering, was established in Modena specifically for this engine. The speed of the designer from Modena and of the organisations with which he worked was renowned. Ready within a matter of months, the new engine was officially demonstrated to the public in April 1988.
Naturally, the news was sensational. The debut in Formula 1 racing of a company like Lamborghini – long the master at producing high-quality, top-performing twelve-cylinder engines – was a major event, and one that could cause plenty of headaches for Lamborghini’s direct rivals. Moreover, the commitment and risk for the company were still rather limited, given that Lamborghini was simply supplying engines to the Larrousse team, which obviously pledged to pay for them. The 1989 season was rather disappointing, but the fault for these poor results lay above all with the French team, which did not have the money and organisation required to compete at the highest levels. Nevertheless, the engine showed excellent potential that deserved to be exploited. As a result, even a titled team like Lotus requested Lamborghini engines for the following season.
Thanks also to this double supply of engines to two teams, the results for 1990 were nothing short of brilliant. At the end of the British Grand Prix, Bernard won an extraordinary fourth place and Suzuki placed sixth. The Hungarian Grand Prix was even more rewarding for the Lamborghini engines, which placed fifth, sixth and seventh, respectively with Warwick (Lotus), Bernard (Larrousse) and Donnelly (Lotus). Nevertheless, the best placement of the whole season came from Suzuki on his home turf at the Grand Prix in Japan, as he placed third and gave the company its first podium finish. This was the best placement ever achieved by a Lamborghini engine in all its seasons of activity.
The finale of the 1990 season – definitely on the rise, with 14 points racked up by the teams with a Lamborghini engine – understandably fuelled the excitement in both Sant’Agata and Detroit. Thus, a wealthy Mexican businessman decided that, in the wake of this success, he would place an order with Lamborghini not only for a F1 racing engine, but for an entire car. The opportunity was obviously too good to pass up, and once the customer’s ample finances were confirmed, Forghieri and his team briskly went to work on the entire project. The single-seater was a relatively conventional one, but its design showed great attention to detail and it brought together all the experience gained by the Modena designer throughout his long career. In particular, it made the most of the data collected over two years of working with the teams using this engine. The new car was entered into the 1991 world championship season, but suddenly the Mexican backer mysteriously disappeared (he was never heard from again) and, at this point, there arose the serious problem of financing the team. An Italian industrialist came forward, offering to make up the shortfall to race the car, which was thus able to participate in the world championship that year as the ‘Modena Team’.
That season, Lotus and Larrousse decided to forgo the Lamborghini engines, which were requested instead by Ligier. But the effort involved in following an entire racing team and outsourcing engines – and with decidedly inadequate funding for this purpose – aggravated the already known problems, and the season of Lamborghini’s single-seater was not a thrilling one. If greater financial resources had been available, it would probably have been possible to find better solutions to the various problems that arose during the season. However, Chrysler inexplicably refused to support this activity in any way, even when it became evident that the economic problems faced by Lamborghini Engineering would trigger a drop in the performance of the F1 car and thus a problem in terms of brand image. Despite Forghieri’s commitment, the American company’s insensitivity to this problem led to a progressive decline in automotive performance and the 1991 season ended negatively, with the definitive withdrawal of the Modena F1 Team from the world championship. Now this lovely single-seater can also be admired at the Sant’Agata museum, and it represents one of the most important missed opportunities in the history of Lamborghini.
The 1992 season saw the return of Lamborghini as the engine supplier for the Larrousse and Minardi teams, the latter coming out of a difficult season with Ferrari engines. In 1993, the Modena company supplied V12 engines only to Larrousse. In both seasons, enormous engine problems arose, reflecting the lack of funds available for the technical development of the engine. The fact that it was fundamentally a well-designed engine is proven by Ayrton Senna’s interest in it, and the Senna tested a Lamborghini engine on the McLaren he was driving at the time. The agreement was in place and ready to be signed when Peugeot, which wanted to return to Formula 1 racing by supplying one of its engines to a high-profile team, stepped in and the deal fell apart, thereby ending Lamborghini’s adventure in the world of Formula 1 racing. The firm continued, with good overall results, to compete in the field of marine engines, an area that was completely foreign to the original philosophy of Lamborghini cars but allowed it to achieve important results in specialised championships like powerboat racing.

InterProgressBank Spartak Racing driver Peter Kox used the dry track most efficiently at the final round of the Le Mans Series at Silverstone. He put the Lamborghini Murciélago R-GT on the GT1 class pole position with a lap time of 1:45.327 minutes. In the process he beat the established competition from Aston Martin and Corvette.
Kox took the class lead from the Modena Aston Martin as the race went green, but lost it after 20 minutes. However, the Dutchman never lost contact to the leader. Unfortunately, there was a light collision with an LMP2 Prototype after two hours, which cost several seconds. Roman Rusinov, who was now at the controls, could however keep second place.
A second accident with an LMP1 Audi, which the Murciélago touched during hectic lapping, did not stop the second placed car in GT1. However, IPB Spartak Racing lost a lap to the leading Aston Martin. "Before the accident we were in with a chance of winning," explained a disappointed Peter Kox after the race.
Kox / Rusinov were unable to close the gap and finished the race in second position.
After five 1000-kilomtres races IPB Spartak Racing took 3rd place in the Team Championship, Peter Kox / Roman Rusinov were fourth in the Drivers’ Championship.

French GT Championship: Title for First Racing!

End of season atmosphere at Magny Cours where the 11th and 12th races
of the French GT Championship were scheduled. For the First Racing
crew of David Tuchbant / Antonie Leclerc in the #54 Lamborghini
Gallardo GT3 extreme tension was order of the day. The two French
drivers were among the top favourites to take the GT3 Championship.
Acting as wing men were team mates Briche / Dubreuil and three other
Gallardos from Ruffier Racing with Ruffier / Peyroles, Cabanne / Helary
and Miloe / Miloe at the wheel.
While the title candidates carefully and coolly picked their way around the
circuit at Nevers, Briche / Dubreuil and Ruffier / Peyroles turned heads by
posting top times initially in free practice and then also in qualifying. In
first qualifying on Saturday, which determined the starting grid for the
race in the afternoon, Ruffier / Peyroles claimed third position in the GT3
class in their Gallardo. Tuchbant / Leclerc would start the 60 minute race
from sixth position.

The race itself evolved into a hard but clean fight. Bruno Dubreuil and
Julien Briche led the way for the Lamborghini camp. They triumphed over
the powerful Ford GT and Ferrari 430 and won by 2.9 seconds from the
following competition. Tuchbant / Leclerc took fifth position in the race
that ended in darkness and, in doing so, kept the championship battle
alive going into the final race of the season on Sunday. Ruffier / Peyroles
also came home in the points in 8th place.

The result of the twelfth race made a correspondingly impressive
impression on the championship. Arnaud Peyroles and James Ruffier
took a fantastic seventh place overall and finished the 41 lap race ahead
of the technically superior and faster GT2 cars. David Tuchbant / Antonie
Leclerc completed the perfect podium in second place. This podium finish
also gave the First Racing drivers the French GT3 Championship for
themselves and Lamborghini.
The fight for the championship runner-up spot was decided in favour of
Lamborghini drivers over the final metres. Victory on Sunday pushed
Ruffier / Peyroles past the Ferrari of Moreau / Parisy to give them the
runner-up spot! As a result, both customer teams were able to place a car
at the top of the championship standings.
A total of four Lamborghini Gallardo teams were classified in the top-ten
of the championship at the end.
Final standings after 12 races:
1. Tuchbant / Leclerc Lamborghini Gallardo 196 points
2. Ruffier / Peyroles Lamborghini Gallardo 176 points

Lamborghini announces The Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo - the world’s fastest one-make series
Automobili Lamborghini has today announced The Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo – the world’s fastest one-make series.
The series will debut in May 2009, and feature Lamborghini’s Super Trofeo: a lightweight version of the Gallardo LP 560-4 super sports car launched earlier this year. The Super Trofeo will come with a reworked chassis, significantly reduced weight of only 1300 kg, and power output of 419 kW (570 hp) from its V10, ‘Iniezione Diretta Stratificata’ engine. Lamborghini has a clear objective to ensure the Super Trofeo is the fastest one-make series in the world.
The race car will feature Lamborghini’s permanent four-wheel drive, making the Super Trofeo the only one-make, all-wheel drive motorsport series. Lamborghini will build cars for a 30-strong grid, available to individual professional and ‘gentleman’ drivers, as well as Lamborghini dealer teams. One factory car, reserved for celebrity ‘guest drivers’, will be included in the line-up at each round.
“We’re delighted to announce The Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo,” said Automobili Lamborghini President and CEO Stephan Winkelmann. “Both on-track and off, our championship will reflect the Lamborghini brand, with extreme, high performance racing and stylish and luxurious trackside facilities. This gives our Lamborghini clients, as well as professional and gentleman racing drivers looking for a new challenge, the opportunity to experience Lamborghini in the ultimate driving environment.”
The first competition of the 2009 provisional calendar will run on 3 May at Silverstone Circuit in the UK, followed by Adria in Italy on 17 May; Nuremburg’s Norisring in Germany on 5 July; Spa in Belgium on 2 August; Barcelona’s Circuit de Catalunya in Spain on 20 September; and culminating on 4 October in Monza, Italy. At Monza in ‘the world’s fastest one-make series’.
With the Swiss watchmaker as title sponsor, The Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo will run over European race weekends alongside other prestigious series such as the FIA GT Championship, DTM and FIA WTCC (World Touring Car Championship). Either one or two drivers can register for each three-day race weekend, comprising of free practice and qualifying sessions, and three 40-minute races during Saturday and Sunday. The results of the three races are added together: no success ballast is added to winning cars, and the cars cannot be modified during the season.
The Super Trofeo car and parts package is offered at 200,000 euro plus tax and entry fee, via Lamborghini dealerships, with support and parts trackside. The prestigious ‘Lamborghini Village’ will provide a luxurious paddock package in true Lamborghini style, for drivers, sponsors and guests.
The Super Trofeo car
The Super Trofeo race car is based on the Gallardo LP 560-4, powered by the new 5.2 litre V10 direct injection ‘Iniezione Diretta Stratificata’, engine, generating an increased output of 419 kW (570 hp). Its power flows through the e.gear six-speed robotized gear box to the permanent all-wheel drive with viscous traction.
The Super Trofeo is a top-class race car in every detail. Its chassis, featuring double wishbone suspension all round, has been reworked specifically for the purpose. The slick tyres are supplied by Pirelli and a specialist racing brake system provides brutal stopping power. The race car weighs in at only 1,300 kg dry, despite its additional safety cage. Additional body components such as the large, fixed rear wing are made from carbon-fibre composite. The cockpit includes ultra-light racing seat, racing steering wheel and specialized instruments.

Reiter Engineering experienced something completely different with a
Lamborghini Gallardo GT3 during the 3-City Rally. The 2007 ADAC GT
Master car of Peter Kox / Albert von Thurn und Taxis was modified within
the space of just one week for the rally event.
When compared with the circuit version the Gallardo was equipped with a
smaller rear wing, shorter front splitter, dampers with greater travel and a
hand-brake. The final modification in particular was at the request of
Reiter Engineering employee Andreas Wetzelsperger whose idea it was
to pursue this project. Wetzelsperger is responsible for looking after the
KTM GT4 and till a few years ago was himself in the rally scene,
including a spell as Toyota factory driver.
Together with co-driver Christian Schn, Wetzelsperger drove the
Lamborghini Gallardo GT3, throttled to produce just 410 ps, as lead car
during the 3-City Rally, a round of the ADAC Rally Masters. Although no
official times for the ‘lead car’ were released Reiter Engineering was
more than satisfied with the first event. “We had absolutely no technical
problems whatsoever, which surprised us a little as the suspension forces
are incomparably higher than on the race track,” summarised Hans
Reiter.
“As a rule our times were within the top four for each special stage, in
special stage 3 we would even have had the best time,” said Hans Reiter
enthusiastically. “I think the subject of rallying could be very interesting for
us in 2009. As I’ve always maintained GT3 cars are universal in
motorsport.”
