If there are any other R/C enthusiasts on JW would you like your own dedicated section to discuss R/C models....???

When can we have some pictures of your new baby then the devils bravo ? or better still some video.....

pick up RC Car Action, or its nitro brother. lots of informative stuff. in fact, check out their website if you can't find the rag, or are too cheap to buy it. You'll be able to find lots of hop-ups in there also.

I get most of my parts from http://www.towerhobbies.com I haven't a clue if they ship the the UK or not.
They do have a phone number for international calls though.

This place is pretty good for just about anything you could want to know.

Which car did you get?

I don't think it's needed. It wouldn't get used much, these threads only come up once in a while.

hey man, I'm big into nitro and electric r/c (moreso nitro), so if you ever wanna talk or have questions, just IM or email me, and i'd be happy to tell you what i know 8)

Jabba, about having a separate section for R/C talking, I think it's a cool idea, and so long as there are at least a couple others on here who would talk about it, I'd be there quite a bit, cause I've been into this hobby for some 5-5.5 years now, and I'd say I know quite a bit

it's up to you Jabba, if you wanna make the section, then awesome! if not, then i guess i'll live. Oh, and if you do, then I know someone who would join...maybe i'll tell him to join anyways...he's an awesome kid.

Peace
Brian

KaBlookie - Any advice on setting it up and maximizing performance would be good I have completed the dial in stage and its flying at th mo.... also info on what springs to go for etc..

oscargarza88 - Its a GV models one?!! apparently made by Carson and rebranded to GV models.. Its pretty awsome, 55 - 60mph alloy adjustable shocks, Ally Chassis, fully ball raced, sports pipe, 2 speed gear box..
Like i say im just getting back into them now as last one i owned was like 10+ ago so they seemed to have changed ina few areas...

The hard bit is finding somewhere to use it.. Its on road as im not a buggy person.. like normal cars too much.. he he he he..

But Good to know you guys are out there interested as well.. as kinda lonley place when you are starting up a hobby again.. :)

There is a very good place that is virtually deserted on Sundays opposite the JW offices (where the fork lift trucks are) shown in this picture.

Hopefuly one day I maybe able to get something sorted out at the farm as I would love to get some R/C aircraft one day myself.

I have a couple of pics of my truck in its on-road guise (on-road wheels with offset tires, separate set of suspension with stiff springs and 70wt shock oil...~30-45wt is average, and the higher the number, the stiffer the oil) in my gallery, and I have some vids of it on- and off-road on my comp, but they're a bit too big to upload here.

If you want I could send you vids thru AIM or if someone would be able to host a couple of 30-60 meg vid files.

One thing you may wanna search for, for running your car, is the parking lot of a stadium or mall somewhere...and get there during off-peak times (or when there isnt a game, for the stadium). I've driven my truck numerous times in the parking lot of this theater next to a huge mall here, and it's probably 15-20 acres of smooth pavement. 8)

Back to your question for tuning and performance. Well, there are quite a few thing you can do to maximize the performance of your existing setup. Make sure that your engine is tuned such that it gives you good power from the instant you hit the throttle, and be sure to tune it every time you go out based on the weather:
colder => more oxygen in a given amount of air => richen (more fuel, less air) the mixture
warmer => less exygen in a given amount of air => lean out (more air, less fuel) the mixture
I'm not too familiar with your specific car, but two things you'd want to get for your car (if you don't already have them) is a higher-performance carb filter (such as Motorsaver (http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/WTI0095P?FVSEARCH=Motorsaver&FVPROFIL=++&search3=Go)) and a good in-line fuel filter (DuBro (http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0095p?FVPROFIL=++&FVSEARCH=dubro+fuel+filter&FVPROFIL=++) makes good ones). Now I'm not sure if Towerhobbies ships to UK (as 666fast said before), but it would be worth it to check...if not, then look for similar products at your local hobby shop.

Just play around with those settings and have a blast!!

Hope this helps, and if you have any other questions, ask away!

Peace
Brian

As long as you keep the foam filter oiled and clean, it'll be fine for a while. Although, the Motorsaver filters are much better.

Before buying a fuel filter, check to see if there is one inside the fuel tank. Some already have a stone filter in them.

Another wise investment is After Run Oil. It keeps moisture from building up in the motor if it's left to sit for awhile. Moisture in the engine is a big no no, it'll make a major mess of it. There are numerous brands, just make sure it doesn't contain any silicone. Some people even use Automatic transmission Fluid. What I do is remove the carb filter and the glow plug, give it a few tugs while holding it upside down to get as much of the fuel sitting in the engine out as possible. put the glow plug back in, put a few drops of the after run oil down the carb and give it a couple more tugs to spread the oil around. Put the carb filter back in and your done!
Another item you might want to look into is a failsafe. Make sure you get the right one if you buy one. Some only work with certain radios.
What they do is stop the car taking off on you. Soemtimes you get a bit of radio interference and the car will suddenly turn or slam on the brakes, or even worse, go full thottle into a wall. A failsafe will put all the servos back to center so it'll roll to a stop if it detects interference. They'll also cutout if your batteries get to low.
They can be a pain in the ass though. My friend won't even use them anymore. Sometimes they'll kick in for no reason (subsequently ruining your fun). The only time I use mine is if I'm running it somewhere I've never been before.

I also just bought a new RC car today. I sold all my other RC's as I either don't use them or didn't want them anymore. Using that money, I bought a Ofna 9.5 Violater 1/8 scale offroad buggy. Just started breaking it in this afternoon. Got a whole three tanks through it! lol
Pretty sweet deal, comes with everything you could imagine. Glow plug, glow igniter, fuel bottle, hump pack (900mah I believe), rotostarter (instead of yanking on the cord, you feed a dogbone into the back plate and push a button, fires right up!) and a nice carrying case. I also ripped out the stock radio stuff and swapped in my FM stuff.
More info here if interested: http://www.ofna.com/95-violator.html

Nice one 666fast..

Ill check the fuel tank like you say.. As for after run oil thats onmy list of things to getnext weekend.. I have bought a fail safe though and so far it behaving pretty good.. but not had to use it in a real emergency yet thank god.. :)

Your new car loks awsome.. Bet its quick.. whats its speed rating..

Appologies for the photos etc.. but as UK members will know another crappy weekend here in the UK rained all day sunday which was the planed outing ....

Thanks! It goes about 40mph. It isn't the fastest thing you can buy. But considering it's a single speed transmission, it's pretty quick. They do make two speed conversions for it though. Most tracks aren't big enough to require a two speed tranny. I could gear it up a bit though for a little more speed.

Thanks for the advice.. I have got a fail safe.. best buy so far i think..

Your violator looks awsome.. bet that baby shifts.... what sort of cost are the cars in the states.. In the uk its about £275 minimum to get started with a nitro car.. hows that compare?

Im in the model shop this weekend.. to get new 1st gear as i haev a few teeth missing on mine currently.. looks like a dam stop got in there .. any ideas on how to protect this from happening..

666fast
04-21-2004, 01:39 PM
275GBP = $488 USD So it's about the same here to get started up. At least it is as long as you don't go for a super expensive kit like a Serpent or something.

If you can get a good pic of the gear while it's still on the chassis, I might be able to tell you what you could do to protect it.
There probably isn't anything you can buy, but you could probably make some sort of cover for it. Does it poke out through the bottom of the chassis?
Take the car with you to the hobby shop, have one of the guys there look at it and see if he can help you. The only thing I can come up with without actually seeing the car would be to cut up a bunch of pieces of lexan and fold them over the gear (without touching the gear). You could hold the pieces together with body clips.

If you ever hear a clicking noise coming from the car, stop it and check the gears for little rocks inbetween the teeth. Thats usually how they get destroyed.

The Devils Bravo

dam thought it might cheaper as the states is normally excellent on prices..

Im looking into covering it over which i can do.. but ill get you a pic asap...

Cheers for the advice well appriciated..

a RC section would be cool!
I've got 3 of these at home for the moment, only two are operational:

1 beast : 1/8 TGX with two speed auto, It outaccelerate a porsche boxter (I've tried!) no vid unfortunately.
and a little old TA02 electric but hugely fun to drive and a LOT cleaner :D

I'll try to make some vids of those one day and put them onto the new rc section here

Jeebus, that must have been one hell of a crash! Did you do it or did the car freak out and take off on you? I'm assuming you nailed it since you've got a failsafe.
That is a long list of parts to replace! Have fun! LOL

It was me.. I was trying to test my turning circle at full revs but only got about 3/4 thank god.. he he he .. so yes my own fault.. if only they designed fail safe's for stupid twats on the controls...

Still got a quote and the whole lot is £44 to fix so not too bad considering..
