 Gemballa GT700-AERO3 (http://www.gemballa.com/295.zip)
As you can see on the video the driver did stop to accelerate at 295 km/h ( 183,22mph ) because of safety reasons *NOT ENOUGH COOLING ON THE DYNO*
With the Power of the engine the speed will climb up to 310 - 320 km/h... ( 198,75mph )

well, SPEED, what is to say about the E85....it´s just perfect :D
the engine is just amazing, as i said some times before, that 3ltr BMW engine is one of the best engines ever :P
i took auto-tranny just for the comfort and in "sport" mode it´s performance is very very good, suspension and driveability is just exemplary...
unfortunately most of the time it´s occupied by my wife when she´s driving around her customers :?

lol, good job :D
such speeds aren´t possible with a GT2 even if one´ll tune it to whatever hp...
just the fact that´s 1.8bar is just silly enough....it simply can´t be, aerodynamically i´d say something around 340-350 is the limit, definitely...

It's not nice to play with us! :P

959, to me that is the ultimate porsche of all time, CGT is awesome and I absolutely love it, but given a choice between the two or any other model for that matter, I would choose 959, in fact it is my favorite car period, I would rather have it than a mclaren f1 or any ferrari or really anything else ever produced, period; is it true that porsche offered a factory upgrade up to 515 bhp as an option to 959 costumers? that's a 2.8 L engine, wow, that sounds unbelievable; especially in a car from late 1980's that was so far ahead of its time; would that also mean that 959 with this option could accelerate even faster? I have heard of 3.5 claims, here they give 3.6 for a 450 bhp car, just wondering if a 515 bhp version was ever tested by skilled drivers such as those at CandD? anyway, thanks for the article, really nice piece about a great car

it´s even more special  it´s an ultra rare 3.8RS...
i´ve talked about WR some time ago, i think in "Pn", but well, of course i´ve met him quite often, mainly at the EZW, Leipzig and of course at the NS...
there isn´t much to say about Walter, IMO he´s just the perfect guy to adjust and develope a car, he´s extremely professional and even has a very very detailed knowledge about the technical side, of course he´s unbeaten at driving....
i´ve worked with quite some well known ppl in automotive engineering, especially during my time at Magna, but Walter´s just a unique person...
IMO the only person who´s very close to Walter is Roland Kussmaul, unfortunately he isn´t that well known, but he´s definitely my personal idol, he´s more the technician, but is also an extremely skilled driver, quite close to Walter, he´s chief engineer and chief test driver from Porsche, works at the EZW, has been the Carrera GT´s, GT3´s and GT1´s technical project manager and the two are just the perfect symbiosis when designing and building a car...

looks fine, although I am no fan of tuned cars, especially when it comes to more exotic kind, but this car appears to have some quality modifications and the interior looks well made, not too bad, overall its a cool car, but not as cool as GT3 RS or 996 turbo, the design of standard cars is a little more neat, precise ...

Thx for the nice scans, certainly an article that I'm going to read asap.
Not hard to know who they'll prefer however...
by the way, a bit late response: I don't like the looks of the Gembella, the alloy wheels are nice but the rest is overdone IMO.
EDIT: spoiler warning
 skid - slide - smoke - Shock - horror
Jeremy prefers the SLR...
*moment of silence*
I may find JC biased from time to time and I didn't care too much that he liked the DB7 much more then the 360. But this... I can't ignore. Both the SLR & CGT are German cars so the biased factor isn't in the comparison now!
I thought the lap times would be more different though, thought the CGT would nail the SLR with about 3-4 seconds. SLR something like 1:24 CGT 1:20. No, only a second difference...
Still don't like the fact that the SLR has an auto gearbox, but then again, the CGT's clutch seems to be problematic...
I'm very glad that I've read this review (bit mixed up though :) ), can't wait for the video!

...same here zipp... :?
i mean, i had the feeling for quite some time that JC might not really like Porsche.....just my view, i don´t watch that much TG, so i wasn´t that surprised that he slightly prefers the SLR...
on the other hand i´ve a friend, i think i told you b4, who had an option on a SLR, actually attended the customer event in france, sure he liked it, who won´t, BUT he also had the option for the CGT too, and after his customer ride in Leipzig he cancled the SLR option....
i think that says it all, he said the SLR is not even close to the performance of the CGT on a tricky track...
the presentation of the SLR took place on a (more or less) oval, so only for showing off the 0-60 performance which is definitely amazing, also a top speed run of real ( GPS ) 205mph, but not a real handling course like it´s in leipzig...
but nevertheless, plz don´t underestimate the SLR too much, it´s a bloody fast car, i´m definitely curious about the NS time, i expect it not to be that much away from the CGT, and the auto box suits the SLR fine, it can´t be compared with a e.g. SL55 box, i´ve heared that from several sources, and they all agreed that the SLR isn´t that far behind from the CGT...
to the PCCC, it´s been again a press car for the TG test, the production cars are very very easy to drive, no need to revv the engine when driving off, one can drive off even without too much gas, just like on a std. Porsche, i couldn´t believe that myself too, because when i had the ride in the CGT (press car) the clutch really seemed to make some "problems", but on the production cars it´s no problem at all, i´ve already tested that :P

st-anger, loved that scanning job. The article was super and I would probably choose the CGT as it appeals more to me, if I want a fast Benz I will get a Brabus V12. When I did the DNA test, I came out with the GT2 as my most likely car followed closely by the GT3RS, GT3, Carrera Coupe and the Turbo Coupe. I think that I will take all 5, thank you very much.

Aha, very interesting to know!!
I think I've indeed underestimated the SLR too much. Because most reviewers (turbo.fr, Richard Hammond, ...) said it wasn't too good at taking corners like other supercars.

WOW.. those cars are bloody fast on the track.. 1:20...and 1:19... The SLR really surprised about the performance... I thought it will be 2-3 secs slower than the Carrera...
I m also not too surprised about JC's decision...since he sold his F355 and bought a SL.. may be at his age.. he's simply too tired about supercars.. he wants something easy to drive, luxury and fast...
Thanks for the scan :D I want to buy this issue..

I think you got it perfectly right.
CGT is a drivers supercar.
SLR is an old mans supercar...easy and relaxing(how ironic)

It will actually work in all the phones based on that platform , that is SonyEricssons T200 series , 300 series and 68 series , all of them in colour of course , and Siemens M55 S55 and SL55 , i think the CL models catches it up too ... the file would fit in any Cell phone but it will look very tiny .
BTW St-Anger never saw a reply on my comment about the 997 , the gearknob comes directly from VW bin parts , its the same on the Polo Golf and southamerican Gol , what do you have to say bout that ?
And why is that clock in the middle of the dash ? what is for ?

Thanks st-anger for the TG scans, I don't have to tell you that I've enjoyed it very much :D
I'm quite happy about the track time, although I think it could be better.
And you get more streetcar in the SLR than the CGT and the CGT is more a trackcar, even if the SLR is a better allrounder.
And when you consider that the suitmen have chosen to add a bit more weight is a bit pitty :( , or else it would be the new king of supercars .
Anyway looking forward for more tests between these supercars. :)

...sorry guys, i know i´ve missed quite some questions and some other stuff these days, but i´m extremely busy these days, way more than "normal"....but what is "normal" in my life
so just a quick reply as you pm´ed me on that too...
what do i have to say.....i don´t like it, that´s it more or less, i prefer the GT3 style, IMO it really looks too much VW like....
the "clock" is part of the "Sport chrono" option:
it´s more or less a "Sport" program for the car ( chassis, engine and Tiptronic S ) in combination with PSM and PASM
the clock is a stopwatch for measuring lap times, etc.... analyzing the performance via PCM is also possible all the devices are liked to each other, so one can upload e.g. a perfect lap and then it can be compared with your own lap...
but plz register here:

there you can find all the infos you need, sorry but i really don´t have more time.... :?

05-28-2004, 09:35 AM
Enzo:
300kmh after just 1476m or 26.1sec, top speed 355kmh, very very stable even at that speeds, very firm suspension, not very noisy at that speeds...
0-100kmh: 3.6sec
0-200kmh: 10.3sec
400m: 11.4@212kmh
1000m:20.1@278kmh
braking from 250kmh: 215m
inside noise level @ 300kmh: 88dB
top speed: 355kmh
handling track: 54,98sec.
CGT:
very good on track, but also very suitable for daily life
( again ) tricky clutch, but nevertheless as driveable as a VW Golf
engine, and especially sound is just to die for…
top speed 334kmh@8350rpm.
also very stable even at top speed, extremely precise steering, and best brakes among all cars…
absolutely the fastest car on the difficult “Autodromo del Levante” track, 1.12sec faster than the Enzo, the editors were quite impressed because the track is only 1.6km long…
0-100kmh: 3.8sec
0-200kmh: 10.7sec
0-300kmh: 34.7sec
400m: 11.5@208kmh
1000m:20.4@266kmh
braking from 250kmh: 191m
inside noise level @ 300kmh: 93dB
top speed: 334kmh
handling track: 53,86sec.
SLR:
highest troque, amazing V8 sound with blue flames coming out of the sidepipes, very comfortable even at top speed, excellent 5speed auto, amazing straight line performance, kinda “nervous” rear end when lifting the throttle at higher speeds, quite heavy so lap time on the track suffers a bit ( 3.59sec behind the CGT )
0-100kmh: 3.8sec
0-200kmh: 10.7sec
0-300kmh: 30.6sec
400m: 11.5@207kmh
1000m:20.5@266kmh
braking from 250kmh: 221m
inside noise level @ 300kmh: 92dB
top speed: 334kmh
handling track: 57.45sec.
Murcielago:
because of AWD very good natured handling on the track, kinda pure driving experience, very loud, some vibrations at higher speeds, not as precise as the Ferrari or Porsche…
0-100kmh: 3.7sec
0-200kmh: 12.5sec
0-300kmh: 37.6sec
400m: 11.8@195kmh
1000m:21.4@251kmh
braking from 250kmh: 212m
inside noise level @ 300kmh: 93dB
top speed: 330kmh
handling track: 55.82sec.
AM DB9:
….one and only car that actually drove to Nardo and even without official engineer, all the other cars where shipped and at lest one engineer with them…
also very smooth ride, “slowest” with 309kmh…
it´s clear, not in the same league as Porsche and Ferrari…
0-100kmh: 5sec
0-200kmh: 16.7sec
0-300kmh: 74.6sec
400m: 13.1@177kmh
1000m:23.6@229kmh
braking from 250kmh: 221m
inside noise level @ 300kmh: 88dB
top speed: 309kmh
handling track: 58.82sec
Bentley Continetal GT:
more a castle than a car, the mighty W12 growls like a 5 million dollar motor yacht, the GT doesn´t drive off, it casts off, very silent at top speed, extremely comfortable but with 323kmh bloody fast as well….
0-100kmh: 5.2sec
0-200kmh: 17.2sec
0-300kmh: 67.2sec
400m: 13.4@174kmh
1000m:23.9@228kmh
braking from 250kmh: 246m
inside noise level @ 300kmh: 85dB
top speed: 323kmh
handling track: 61.66sec

Thx for all the new porsche multimedia stuff. I read (or tried :P ) the article before your translation. Very straightforward typically German approach to reviewing cars. That's not bad, not at all, but very different from the style of EVO for instance.
It's very cool to have the official Porsche 997 brochure so quickly. Will certainly read it... after all I need to know something more if I'm going to buy this car...
With going to buy I'm not saying this year, think more in decennia :P maybe in 2014 I'll be able to afford a 997 :)

Thanks very much for the article st-anger :) , good to know that even though the Enzo had the highest top speed, the CGT managed to have the best time around the handling course  . And the best brakes for the CGT, would have never imagined that it would brake a full 24 meters sooner than the Enzo  .
And between the Aston and the Bentley it would be the DB9 for sure 8)

What is with the Carrera GTs braking discrepancies? This is a phenomenal test and probably shows close to its true ability though all the cars are a bit quicker in a straightline in better conditions.
The C&D test showed it braked slightly better than the Enzo. The R&T test showed it braked much worse. It wasn't a super high speed, but even the sport auto test didn't show this kind of difference.

edit: wow the Murcielago outbraked everything, but the CGT? That is impressive, but odd.

BTW, in the last french "Sport Auto" magazine, they test the Enzo, the CGT and the SLR together :P Unfortunatly i haven't a scanner so i can't post the article now (and it's in french ) but i will try to borrow a scan ... The winner is .... the CGT for its overall achievement, attention to details, ability to ride on the road ... they also test it (a press car too) and recorded 3"9 for the 0-100 km/h, 7"2 for the 0-160 km/h ( 100 mph) and 10"6 for the 0-200 km/h).

I can see that point but I know that they advertise, at least in US magazines, a 800 number where they will send you info so that they can reach customers who can’t or aren’t willing to come in. I still would seem more effective to me put it on the web.

Sounds like it'll be a great video. DW-World better show the english this time, they only showed the CGT comparison but not the individual test last time around.
If it's on TV here, I"ll for sure record it!

Any chance of ever getting a more comprehensive translation of auto motor und sport?
I'm just wondering about the Enzo's braking distances. Not so much that the Carrera GT beats it, but the Murcielago?
It has good brakes, but tests show that the F50 beats it by about 10m from 200kph. The F50 is good, but it doesn't brake like the Enzo.

I can see that point but I know that they advertise, at least in US magazines, a 800 number where they will send you info so that they can reach customers who can’t or aren’t willing to come in. I still would seem more effective to me put it on the web.
BTW I was impressed by all of the new posts on Saturday by yourself. I’m looking forward to the scans from GT Purely Porsche. I know that the article about the 3.2L Carrera is not as urgent as some of the other articles but I was hoping that at some later time you might post that as well. I don’t have access to the magazine here. Thanks for your contributions.

I just finished reading the 3.2 article and it was fantastic. I loved the writing style. It kept the reader engaged in the article the whole time.
For those who are interested the writer discussed the improvements in handling behavior of the 80’s 911 to pre 80’s 911’s. I looked up some information and compared a review in 1980 of a SC with a different review of a 1987 Carrera. The main differences were an increase in rim width from 6 inch front and 7 inch rear to 7/8 on the 1987. Both cars ran on the same exact tire size and 16” rims. (I noticed in this article that the car driven had smaller 6” rims up front and the 8” rear compared to the US reviewed 1987.) Obviously, improvements in tire technology have helped. The only other change between the two models I am aware of is an increase in front and rear anti-roll bar diameters and an increase in the rear torsion bar size. I believe that the suspension pick up points and construction technology remained the same. Does anyone know when they brought alloy suspension pieces to the 911?

A smallish video (10MB, sound is uncompressed to make it better!) that some people seem to find fun to watch.
The camera focuses on the dials in the cockpit as I take it up to 170kph.
"It" is a 1980 Porsche 911 SC.

Thanks st-anger for the scans. I really enjoyed reading them. I especially like a comment in "Blood Brothers" about driving pleasure that I think was insightful. When choosing between a GT3 RS and the 2.7 RS the writer said "Driving pleasure is all about playing on the edge of the handling envelope at real world speeds and in all driving conditions. For that you still can't beat the original."
I think that there is something to that. As modern sports cars continue to obtain the performance capabilities of previous years race cars the only place to really enjoy them anymore is a race track. I think that in part is the reason track events have become so popular as of late. To push a car on a public road anymore has become insane due to the increased performance potential of modern sports cars. What does everyone else think?

...so ´ll post it here first, because it´s mainly Porsche stuff inside, so here´re some of my pics from the "Sport Auto Tuner GP 2004" this year won by Gemballa after last year´s TechArt victory...
...just for those who´re interested, pic #2 shows Horst von Saurma ( HvS ) chief editor of Sport Auto who does all the "Supertests". he´s one of the best=fastest drivers i know, definitely one of the fastest ´round the NS from all...
pic #3 shows Jochen Übler, the man right after HvS, also a very skilled driver who does all the sportscar testing, very cool guy indeed...
 also be sure to check those pics which are IMO the best one´s out of all:
#1 ...on the autobahn, braking from 200 for taking pics...."see you later..."
#21,22 & 23..... 8)
#25 ...had a very interesting conversation with the Gemballa engineer who updated the setup of the GTR, unfortunately everything we talked is TOP SECRET
#28 especially for daddy
#30 one of the best looking Porsches i´ve ever seen.... :D
#38 .... what an amazing sound, kinda like the R-GT i´ve seen at Salzburgring ( hope i´ll be able to upload these pics some time too... )
#49 ....same "problem" here, a bit too hot for the plastic skirt...
#55...993 GT2 tuned by RS-Tuning, a VERY fast driver from UK, sorry i had to resize the (3MB) pic, but when you take a closer look you can see "some" smoke comming from the brakes, they were nearly on fire...
#66...all my favourite Porsches at one spot, it´s like heaven...
#76 my desktop background now :P
#99 & 100 ...all the participants
... will post some pics of the second event, the Drift Challenge, some time later...
hope you enjoy the pics...

Wait a second this is a 964. I thought you said earlier that you didn't like the look of the 964 model :o . It must be the bumpers then. I agree with you these bumpers look much better than the original 964's. Any idea why Porsche went with the bumpers they did on the 964 verses something like this?

St_anger, as a Porsche insider I’m interested in your opinion on this sidebar commentary in the MT 1986 review of the return of the 911 Turbo to the US market. Do you think that the criticism was valid in 1986 and if so is it still true today. There also may be significant differences between what was shipped to the US and to the rest of the world. So maybe this doesn’t apply to European models.
Certainly Porsche though has taken steps since then to address the issue with its more devoted enthusiasts by introducing Club Sport and RS versions. I don’t think anyone has ever criticized the 964 RS as having too soft a suspension. However, as far as I’m aware none of the RS versions were certified for import to the US market.

However, as far as I’m aware none of the RS versions were certified for import to the US market.
http://img26.imageshack.us/img26/2475/472.jpg
...well, just another opinion of an editor... :?
don´t take this too serious, sure there´s been some changes in the line up, and the US market is the most important one for Porsche, but i don´t think that the 993TT is a soft boiled lawyer´s car, i don´t know that much about "US spec" versions, but i can only tell you that one has to be a very good driver to be fast in that car, but again, i´ve read so much BS in the various mags, it´s all about the editors, and the problem is, if an editor doesn´t like a model, regardless if Porsche, Ferrari or whatever the ppl, the readers, believe that the car is shit, only based on the opinion of one person who´s maybe a bad driver, or has some strong personal preferences to a specific brand...whatever...
BTW, thx TT for the cool pics :P

it is a 935, but i dont think its the moby dick, its the '76 935. The Moby Dick looks more racy, with a low tail and nose

Thanks that was great, I really like that kind of test. One where the goal is to figure out exactly what a car can do. Rarely do you see anything like this outside of autocars 0-100-0.
Not only do they test, but they actually MENTION conditions and the spec of the car. The only thing that would have made it any better for me would have been an Enzo to go head to head, but I guess I can't have everything.

I couldn't register. I'm guessing my mobile number was the wrong format and I don't know the Euro phone number format, so I couldn't fake one...I don't see that this link has been posted. If someone is later able to snag the video (I think it opens in a Java window), can they please put it up? Thanks.

Here is an article that I scanned from a library. They had all but the last page which was torn out. I was able to get a photocopy from another library that I scanned in its place. Sorry about the last page but I thought the article would be of interest anyways. This is a review of the 965 with Frere and compares the car to Louis Ruf's personal CTR on Monza. It is from the March 1991 issue of Road & Track. Maybe someone else can provide a color scan of the last page.
