Not an anti american post or anything like that, but it is things like this which go against everything that America is supposed to be.
I got this in my mail today(an email list from a Depeche Mode newsletter)
FCC CRACKDOWN
Due to the recent breast-baring incident by Janet Jackson, and Bono's use of a vulgarity on the CBS network, the FCC have now gone to the next step in securing the airwaves from indecent material. The FCC have now started a serious retroactive crackdown on indecent lyrics. Unfortunately, Depeche Mode are one of the first bands to be victims this. A number of tunes, including fan favorites such as "Personal Jesus", "Sea Of Sin" amd "I Want You Now" have effectively been banned from U.S. airwaves.
This is quite pathetic is you ask me. Even if profanities are beeped out you still can not play these songs. The fact is that the lyrics in these songs do not have any profanities. If there is anything in the song that is sexual then you can not play it from 6am to 10pm. Only after 10. What is the matter with that?
FCC desides what is indecent material or not.
Take a look at the lyrics of the song Sea of Sin
Sea of sin
I'm swimming in
And I'm taking a dive
My mind's in need
So my body feeds
And it keeps me alive
It gets better and better
As it gets wetter and wetter
Sea of sin
Know where you've been
But I don't care
Sea of sin
Through thick and thin
For better or worse
My mind's in need
So my body feeds
And it quenches my thirst
You look cheaper and cheaper
As we sink deeper and deeper
Sea of sin
Know where you've been
'Cause I've been there
Here under God's sky
His watchful eye
And all of the lies
My consolation prize
Sea of sin
My second skin
My home from home
When I'm in doubt
My hands reach out
And I'm never alone
It gets wetter and wetter
As it gets better and better
Sea of sin
Know where you've been
And I'm prepared
Sea of sin
Know where you've been
Yes I'm aware
Sea of sin
Know where you've been
'Cause I've been there
Sea of sin
Know where you've been
And I don't care
Sea of sin
Know where you've been
And I don't care
Guess what? This song is banned.
I'm am really getting sick of "SEX" being a taboo subject in North America. Sex is wrong sex is bad, do not talk about sex, do not do this do not do that.
So they allow to play rap songs that talk about people getting shot slaughterd and beaten up, but then do not allow songs that have something to do with sexuality? That is wrong. Really wrong.
They even cut out words like "ass" out of movies.
America is supposed to be all about freedom. Freedom of speech, freedom of fucking at the beach.(hehe that kinda rimes) and we get this bullshit?

Its only network tv. Cable tv you can do whatever you please. It s also only like that because theres an expectation of decency on network tv. TV should not be allowed to do leud things if they present the channel as for the family.

yea, america seems, ironically, to be afraid of freedom. i agree completely, and you can blame christianity for that taboo about sex. i can drive a car (which is in some cases considered wielding a deadly weapon here at age 16) and i can't see a rated R movie for another two years because they are afraid i might see some tits. give me a fucking break.

Dont bitch about it, change it. Love it , leave it, or change it.

the freedom exists for parents to decide these things, rather then the child find out on their own. i disagree with the sensoring of long aged songs; however, i havent ever seen a music video on network tv..... ever.
these days, there are so many parental, or user controls that limit what is allowed to be seen, and i see this as a good thing. for example, i have 2 nieces, and a nephew by my brother, and his wife; all of which are 5 and under. seeing and hearing such things would be confusing, and currupting if over done.
what they have done with their pay cable is limit the tv rating on what the children can watch, and cant watch. also, they limit what shows are off limits within that rating catagory. these limits didnt exist when i was young, and if my siblings and i were caught watching something we werent supposed to... it was trouble. these rating systems, and controls help eliminate that, and allow the parent to be more inclusive in the childs activities.

the FCC is too easily influenced by connected politicians. the way i see it, if you don't want your kids listening to something or watching something, then don't fuckin let em. don't make the FCC restrict EVERYTHING because it effects other consumers who CAN listen to those things.
fuckin suburban brady bunch fag daisy flower motherfuckers
I thought they were called Soccer moms? If ur gonna bitch about whats on TV buy a fucking V-Chip, or A take 5 seconds and lock the fucking channels u dont want them to watch.
with the way the fcc is acting and the way the goverment is getting involved with gays/lesbians and shit its pathetic. it seems like the U.S is going back in time. whats next bring back segregation. i have hated the U.S for a long time now and as each day goes by i hate it more and more. just pathetic.
If you hate it so much - fuck off. and don't let the door hit your sorry ass on the way out. (I say that because your locations says US and Portugal)
The process of change managment is called franchise.. when you are of voting age, excercise that right... - as has been said, do something or sshut the fuck up.

Maude Flanders voice: Think of the children, oh god, think of the children!!!
It's the idiots who appoint themselves as some sort of authority on decency. They go out and convice a ton of people that everything and everyone else not on their bandwagon is against them and are immoral. Then those people go to the government to make things "better".
Sorry to break it to you, but all that stuff you are trying to shelter kids from, most kids already know about whatever it is you don't want them to know.
When it all comes down to it, I really don't care. I never listen to the radio and the shows I watch don't have much to worry about.
America will be in for quite a shock when my generation is running the country.
if you don't want your kids listening to something or watching something, then don't fuckin let em.
That is the problem, it's always someone elses fault. Like that assclown Bill ORielly, he thinks rap is bad for kids and should be gotten rid of. Well, it wouldn't be a fucking problem if the parents paid attention to what their kids are watching and listening to.
People seem to forget that the nightly news and dedicated news channels show more violence in an hour than any song or movie.

America, land of the free...........what a joke, free if you can afford it, fucked if you can't. Seems to me that a bit of tit and arse never hurt anyone. Explicit violence permitted on TV and in movies, homeless people everywhere and America worries about tits. Wrong obscenity folks.
Looks like the right wing loonies rule the roost. Glad its your country not mine.

Apparently alot of you don't understand how the vchip works. This isn't about blocking programs with obscene things or music. It's about stopping programs that pass themselves off as being family oriented from doing so. The NFL half time show for example. It is a reasonable expectation from the way the nfl presents themselves and the fact that network tv presents themselves as acceptable for kids. The vchip doesn't check to see what the content is. IT checks how the network or show presents itself. Thus if the network tv stuff does do this shit, then now parents dont get the decision on what to let their kids see. Should I not let my kids watch tgif(I don't watch tv but thats what I watched as a kid) on abc because I have to worry that some idiot decided to put someone having sex in the middle of a station where thats not expected? So what channel can my kids watch now? None.
Theres so many misconceptions out there. So many people think there is a push to ban all violence/sex from tv. In fact other then a few wackos(tipper gore/joe liberman) most individuals only support making channels follow the guidelines they present themselves as following. That includes the fcc. When the fcc starts banning mtv shows.. then we can talk.

Guys lets concentrait on the radio. We can have a TV argument in another thread.
nthfinity- I dont see how a song that metaphoricaly relates to something sexual will corrupt a childs mind. I dont see how a scene were to people are making love will corrupt a childs mind.
To be honest with you. I knew about sex when I was 7. I knew how to put on a condom when I was 7. I was watching movies with violence when I was 9. Guess what? I did not grow up with a corupted mind like people are saying. I havent raped a girl or went out to shoot anyone. I grew with a better view of the world. Why? My parents. They were honest with me the whole time. The explained me everything without any cover ups of something being indecent and so on. I knew that when I'm watching Arnold Shwarzneger(sp?) blow people up in T2 that it was entertainment and that killing was wrong. My parents taught me. And not the TV. I had sattelite TV when I was something like 5 years old back in the early 90s and I was probably exposed to more media then the rest of my generation, and I did not grow up with a corupted mind, because I was taught by my parents and not the TV or Radio.
Now I see these North American teenagers who dont know much because of censorhip who grow up to be un aware of what is going on in the world.
You learn the most when you are a little shit, and that is when you should be taught about life.
godspeed06- I competly agree that in most cases religion is to blame in many censorship cases. I my self am a Christian on paper, but I dont not consider my self religious in any way. The problem in America is that religion is to closesly conected with a goverment which I do not think is a proper way to run a goverment. They even have "In God We Trust" on their dollar bills. I highly respect every religion, I know its purpose, but religion is a personal relationship of a man with his/her God. It should not be public and its a personal and a highly sacred relationship. When a Christian a Muslim or a Jew hears something on the radio that is offencive, they always have the "freedom" of choice to turn the radio down and switch the chanell. No one is making anyone to listen to the radio or watch TV. And this is something many of you are forgetting. Part of the defenition of freedom is choice.
By passing this law they are taking away choice, and making a very biased move or favor to Christians or any other religions by taking these songs of the air. Look at this. I want to hear the song "Sea of Sin"(to witch you can find the lyrics in the first post", but I can not hear it because FCC ruled it off. Is that fair? Are they trying to say that a Christian has more rights then me(a non religious person)? now that is not right is it?
In my view anything should have the right to be aired either on Radio waves or TV. Be it gay rape or donkeys fucking on the beach or satanists worshiping the devil. But put a disclaimer saying what are you about to see. If you dont want to hear something or see something. Turn OFF the tube.
Again the saying that kids will get corrupt if they see violence on TV or hear about it on the Radio is complete bullshit. If kids are blocked from this and go out in the real world not knowing about what really happens in the real world then they will go down fast.
Did anyone read this post?

I'd argue that censorship is not whats causing that. Cause frankly we haven't grown up in a world of censorship in the us yet. Eminem is still released, they didnt take the kill the police rap off the shelves.. Thats not the reason we have problems.
The reason we have problems... Wait for it...
Is it has been decided by someone that you can't discipline your kids. Our friends across the pond their wanted to ban spanking for crying out loud. How do you expect kids to learn to behave without at least some punishment for bad acts? That coupled with the lack of responsibility that is instilled in our wordly society.. causes the problems we see today.

I agree. We got the same shit with spanking laws in Great White North.
In which sense do you mean the lack of resposibility?
Thank you.
Well said.
Everyone needs to be raised with their parents flat hand across their face the first time they mouth off, act sur;y or talk back.
Guess what ? - you will think twice before doing it again.
That way you can sit the fuck down in the class room and learn - if you misbehave, hit your ass with a cane - if you do it again - get out and never come back.
If you steal something go to jail.
If you murder someone - get hanged by you kneck until dead.
Responsibility means being responsible for what you do - don't blame someone else - be accountable for your onw actions - and pay the price for bad behaviour.
There is a reason why the natural world has a disciplined order - if you don't play by the rules - you die.

Exactly.. Theirs a major problem in this world with blaming someone else or something else. When someone does something they need to accept it. No more sueing mcdonalds cause you got fat or burned yourself on the coffee.

I compeltly agree. Well said.
This is what happend in one of Muslim countries...not sure were..but the story goes as follows.
A girl was swiming in a her pool naked. The place is covered by the fence. A man(a fucking cunt this one) saw this and jerked off. Why? She made him. So he sind because of her. Guess what? She got stonned to death because the court rulled to do so.
When I tell this story to people the can not beleave how bad this is and unjust.
They dont realise that this is exactly what FCC is doing. They are blaming someone else for the acts their kinds commit as the result of the radio waves...
