Does anyone know anything about Laser detectors? Like which is the best? And does anyone know about Laser/Radar Jammers?
Active Jammers are illegal due to the requirement to broadcast a powerful signal that by it's very intent interferes with receivers in the vicinity.
Passive Jammers supposedly absorb the received radiation and reflect it back to accomplish the same objective - but considering they are not actively generating a signal they can't possibly have the same effect as a broadcast signal - hence they don't work and are a waste of money.
Back to active jammers - they work - seen em in action but as I say are easily detected and are illegal to use - so may not be worth the risk.
With a Laser detector you are hoping that the cop "shoots" your car, the detector picks up the signal and you hit the brakes before he gets a decent reading - which is pretty hard to do... so the Laser detector is just a way for you to KNOW you are BUSTED ;)
The idea is for the detectors to pick up the presence of LEO's and you adjust your speed accordingly.
You also learn to drive ahead of yourself and try to figure out where they may be - and remember where you last saw them
Most Radar speed traps rely on some dumbass just pushing pedal to the metal and cresting a hill at 100mph and getting busted.
That being said, the only 2 detecors worth considering that are a decent price are the Valentine 1 and the Escort 8500.
But what would I know? ;)

Thanks RC! As two to consider, I had already written those down...thanks anyway. Thats interesting about the Jammers, I think im gunna stay away from them. How do they detect them anyway?
In general chat has been similar topic.

jammers rely on sending out a strong signal in the various speed radar bands.... X, K, Ka
x is the oldest form of speed radar, and more comon in rural areas, but on the way out
K is newer, and its range has a further accurate range. on long straights, ive detected as far away as three miles or so
Ka has a feature designed to stop the radar detector users, and has an "instant on" feature so the officer can clock on the fly.
usually if you recieve a signal, you are clocked within just a few seconds, but the insturction manuel has more info when you get one
i highly recomend the passport 8500
