Mercedes S69 AMG!
S69 Ups The Ante In Battle Of The Giants

At the other end of the scale from the A-Class, Merc is building a luxury saloon with supercar performance. As the power struggle between AMG and the German maker's other affiliated tuner Brabus intensifies, the former is working on a new flagship, the S69 AMG.

Producing in excess of 675bhp, the model is set to be the wildest S-Class yet, with a larger-capacity version of the 6.0-litre bi-turbo V12 from the S65 (right). With torque expected to be in excess of 1,000Nm, finding a reliable transmission to handle it will have been difficult - but our sources say engineers have managed to do so. In preparation for the introduction of the newcomer, Mercedes has registered the S69 trademark, along with SL69 and CL69. That means we've got a whole range of flagships to look forward to.

I wonder what will supercars performance be in 2020??? Almost every second high end car (M3, M5, AMG Mergs etc) have 400-600 hp already.. Some extreme machines 700-900.. And this hase come just in 10 years from like 250-300 hp... so in the 214 will there be 1500 hp cars??

Merc should just trim some weight off of that car instead of giving it more power...still, that is impressive.

With over 600 Hp performance...weight doen't count much...

It means 3-3.5kgs/HP???? Still it is a good ratio!

Weight count much no matter how much power you got, the more weight the stronger the force that tries to pull you out in a curve.....

RUF tries to get the weight down instead of just adding power to get a faster and better handling car, and thats what MB should do too...

The slr isnt anything else than a high powered heavy ugly car, and fails totaly in being a supercar.......
It seems like the mantra of MB are hevay and powerfull, not powerfull and as fast as it could be...... :(

Ok...its true what you are saying....but these are rather luxury "sport" cars
than cars like RUF which are on "diet"...I think it falls in a different category...only the power is similar...

Hmmmmm I wonder what would happen if that engine was fitted to an A-class...or better yet, a Smart

WTF?! why would merc do that?! if they will what in the world would BRABUS do?! I think this is a stupid idea... Merc shouldn't do that.. thats what BRABUS is for!

S69 is still short of brabus' 7.3 litre monsters. But still, what's the point of going through all this? I'm sure a saloon is fast enough with 500bhp and 5.5 litres. There's not point in going all the way to 6.9.

Wooooooww, I just love it, ok they don't need to do it, but its just to show their capabilities, I don't think their will be a lot of buyers, its just for the show.

smart would be undriveable.. I mean, noone could keep this thing on the road... pedal to the metal and youre going into bushes.. sideways..

And BRABUS is there to tune tghis engine to like 800 bhp or something.

I wonder how this car will drive without electronics, like ABS, ASR, etc. etc. I think it won't be drivable at all. Remember Jeremy in a E55 AMG in wet conditions???

Yes, but Jeremy can't drive. Remember Tiff in a M5 in the wet? Now that's show!

That car is insane BTW!

Yeah, the S65 was no faster than the S600 because the wieght of the cars keeps them down. I wonder if the new 7tronic will be able to handle the new S69?

You will be amazed how many 65 cars have found homes. AMG says they have exceeded their highest sales expectations, and all buyers want is more power. The demand may even exceed production supply.More power is the reason behind the cars, and now Brabus must be outdone. As Top gear once said "no one does onemanupmanship quite like the Germans".

Reasons for higher weight...

MB doesn't invest in lightweight materials for bodywork. Aluminium panels are way too expensive and since most of the budget goes into tech than body weight, result is heavy car.

The more tech and features, the more weight. The more wind and sound insulation and general new features all add weight.

The torque of AMG motors means rear axle, differential, transmission and suspension (from weight) all need stregthening. The 500's have an aluminium rear axle compared to the 55's which have steel. The engine itself does not add that much weight, say 60 more kgs of V8 kompressor vs. Na AMG 5.5 V8.

When you have the torque generated by an AMG motor coupled to a transmission/differential and axle that was made for 500's then you need some serious structuring.

One reason why the CL65's weigh about 200kgs more than the 55's, is not because of additional features, its to stop teh transmission and rear axle from obliterating itself by 1000Nm of torque

Its a shame, but that extra weight does add refinement and a certain "speed insulation" at higher velocities...drive a Porsche turbo at 190mph and then an E55 at 190mph, and tell me what was easier... Downforce aside...

Yeah aren't MB having problems with the Gearboxes to handle all the power and torque!?! Will the new 7G gearbox really cope?

Mercedes' cars power outputs are verging on the obscene. NOt to mention engine sizes too. BUt I guess all the german manufactureres are at it now. It's actually quite comforting to know that the automotive world's equivalent of sensibility is stil capable of some madness. (=

Unless you actually have driven a japanese car or a german one, keep your silly comments to yourself(no hard feelings  ).
They make these cars because ppl want them, and what makes you say
japanese cars aren't full of electronics... :?

Mercedes cars have always been jam packed with electronics aids. It's actually quite annoying. Cant do anythin fun with my dad's e-class, the traction control cen never be turned off! hehe.

Still, Mercedes and the mad boffins at AMG never seem to have a problem selling their cars. Even though they share a badge with buses and trucks. Quite amusing. (=
