Ferrari 360 Stradale.

There are a few other good ones also but i think this is the best. When u see the 5th gear vid about it, it's just fabulous, fabulous sound.

I agree.. Ferrari have the most distinct sound of all production cars bar none. You can watch a race with 20 cars and just 1 ferrari but you'll no doubt be able to tell that raspy high reving ferrari apart. I'll have to throw a vote in for the Mclaren F1 as well, man the first time I heard that at WOT I was simply amazed!!!

Have any of you seen the movie Bruce Almighty? I think the S7 in that movie sounds incredible. I love hearing that 7.0 liter V8 in that car. And i also second that the new m3 sounds like crap. My good friend has one. But i do have to say that it sounds good from inside the car with that rasping sound from that 3.2 inline 6.

Yes, come to think of it, that car did sound absolutely amazing! Personally I hate the sound of most high-revving engines, ferrari included. But many of the american supercars of the past and present have very nice sounds.

Ferrari's raspy howling and shreaking has always been
music to my ears, it's deffinitely my favorite. But
I alsow love the loud throaty roar of the Viper's engine,
it just sounds so mean and will deffinitely stike fear

Ferrari's flat 12s were always considered to be the best sounding engines on the planet,,,,and I can confirm that. They sound glorious.

Ohh and the flat 12 cars are the 512TR, 512M, and TestaRossa.

I hesitate between the Carrera GT and the F50 (with an MS Racing exhaust), the 355 is also awesome :mrgreen:
For the race cars, the Mazda 787 (rotary engine) is really impressive.

Undoubtely, because that engine sounds amazingly good, no matter the revs your in!
The Ferraris have a nice scream... but only when they are UP UP UP

But... the grunt of a Porsche when it is at iddle... amazing... the floor even shakes!!

For race cars.. where all we want is revs..... Maybe a Ferrari... they sound spectaculary at high revs!!!

Actually I have a question about engine sound; what is it exactly that makes the engine sound like it does? For example why do the imprezas have a "warble" noise to their exhaust, while something like a Ferrari has a higher pitched scream and an an old big block V8 has a strong characteristic burble and slow sound?

Surely it is more than just the exhaust which makes the sound different?!?

I'm surprised that none have mentioned the Jaguar XK180. That's an amazing sound! The Mercedes SL55 AMG is also great. (The SLR is impressive, but a bit over the top for me...) All TVRs sound cool, but they're not the best. Just as the SLR there is more quantity than quality.

In the "seen every day"-class I want to mention all 6 cylinder BMWs on low revs. Even the ?20i. They sound so smooth!

It depends on what you mean by sound. Comparing a ferrari to any other car is just not fair simply based on the undisputable fact that ferraris make music from their engine all the way through their exhaust :D . Whether it be a modern v8, v12, classic v6 or best of all a classic v12!! There is one exception to this law, and that is the orginal Ford GT40 (It sounds gorgeous!!!). Personally my favourite modern day car that produces the best sound has to be the F360 challenge stradale. It is sweet, deep and loud all in one!!!! 8)

In the affordable price range, the S2000 by far. I've been in one and it sounds absolutely fantastic and that was only at like 7000 RPM!!!

One time a 360 Modena drove by me, we were going around 40 mphs an hour or so and he blew by me at 60 or so. Man that engine is see too.

An understated one is BMW's 2.2 M54 Straight six found in 2001-2004 BMW models with a 20i at the end of the name (excluding the new BMW 1 Series).

Reason of this being choosen over the 3.0 engine is because the lil baby 2.2 is ALOT freer to rev:) I heard the 2.5 is just as good but the 3.0 has more of a grunty one. Actualy all of the BMW M54 engines sound great:)

Also! I forgot!

The BMW 645Ci, 545i, 745i sound AWSOME 8)
