Having Suvs that can go 0-60 in 5.6 secs is like creating a sports car that can brave the roughest terrain. Each vehicle has its purpose, and the line is being blurred to the point where a SUV can beat an SL500 to 60. I mean come on this is ridiculous. Some kid will see that number get excited, get his parents to buy him a performance SUV for his first car, and tip it over at the first bend he takes....Now that is a scary thought

I agree. Every vehicle has its purpose...but americans love their trucks, and they need something new to get them even more excited.

The only thing I dont like is that it seems like everyone has an SUV and its making the gas prices soar around here. Its at like $2.10 a gallon for 87 octane. My Nova hasnt moved in over 2 months cause it will make me broke at the first fill up. Plus no one around here knows how to drive anyway and getting a bigger car just makes it worse. They seem to pay less attention the bigger the car is, like im supposed to look out for them and they have carte blanche always on their cell phones. Honestly who really needs a huge SUV in Los Angeles? Where you gonna go off-roading, the sidewalk?

But to each his own. If thats what they want, its their choice.

sounds like its not a problem with the cars, but with the drivers and their inability to operate them.
i think most 'suv' drivers would argue that they feel safer and like sitting high up above traffic. thats fine -- but they should have the required skills to prevent accidents that are a result of the vehicles bulk. something most of them probably don't have..

i agree owning a car, and been able to drive it are 2 different things, IMO SUV drivers are oftern very condersending. thinking they are better than evreyone, and thinking they are invinsable cutting off trafic, they may be safe, but what about the rest of the trafic.

IMO suv's are a total waste of road space, and they are NEVER EVER used for going off road, and just guzzle gas down, and i rely rely hate them!

Well higher demand usually brings with it higher prices. Its a case of supply and demand, our supply is low and at the same time the demand is very high due to so many fuel guzzlers in this city (which I am guilty of as well, so I cant really blame anyone). Im pretty sure the boost in gas prices hasnt spread throughout the country here and is mostly in highly populated areas, but that I dont know for sure.

And especially since our involvement in Iraq the government is afraid of importing more fuel to avoid us being called out in that being a big part of the reason we went to war.

the main point of an suv is that ur high up on the road and get a better view than a car, so if theres a performance suv thats because people want best of both worlds.... and let ppl do what they want with their money... its like saying buying a ferrrai is a waste because any other toyota will take u from point A to point B...!

If people want the space of an SUV but don't want to sacrifice performance i think these SUV's are great... and there are just as many bad driver in other types of cars too. How about that 75 year old woman driving 50 regardless of the speed limit and running stop lights. Like 666 fast said...bad drivers certainly aren't limited to SUV's. you know how many teenage guys i've seen with their WRX's wrapped around a telephone pole!

Agree with novass that it's all supply and demand in regards to gas prices. SUV's probably have very little effect on gas prices though. OPEC is the single biggest reason prices are so high. And if the gov't were to require better milage stats for SUV's the price might go down temporarily..... but there would be less demand so in order for OPEC to make their killing they would just cut oil production to boost the price again.

i hope to never hear another american bitch about gas prices. besides in some middle eastern countries, u have the lowest fuel prices in the entire world. in canada we profit from ur war mongering and reap the rewards of cheap gasoline. (66-77cents a litre as it fluctuates like a fat girl on a diet) so at about 3.40 a gallon, and with out dollar doing considerably better than before, we are "craaaaaaaazy expensive" from ur point of view.....but in nearly all other countries it is higher. we have it good over here in northamerica. car prices are low, gas prices are low. we shouldnt complain i dont think.

Come to Minnesota and you will think differently.
Sure, plenty of people buy SUV and pickups just cause they want a bigger vehicle. But some people do actually use them to haul stuff or tow trailers. You don't have to take it offroad to make it usefull.

1 gallon = 3.78L = 3.78€ = 4.64$ a gallon

I can complain about whatever the fuck I want too. Its not the price thats its at right now that bothers me, its the fact that it has been rising nearly $.05 by the week, at this rate we will surely surpass your price in a matter of a few months.

Let me ask you this, what kind of car do you drive and how many miles to the gallon (or liters to the km) do you get? Reason I ask is because my Nova only gets about 6 mpg and that was what I was complaining about, because I can hardly drive it anymore without going broke.

And like I said before, I am just as much responsible as anyone else, no one forces me to drive that car and no one is forcing me to live here. I was just complaining because I felt like it.
