Found my back window on a neighbours lawn this morning, and then I looked in the garage to find that my DH race bike had been stolen too. £3500 it cost me, all gone......I feel devistated right now.

Good lord! Sorry to hear that, man! Insurance won't compensate you for it?

Unfortunately, to insure my bike cost more than to insure my car! So I did not insure it. Therefore £0

Chaos in 1983!

Seems like "smash and grab" crime is pretty bad in blighty - is this pretty much the main thing that goes on - hopefully not more serious stuff - a lot easier to replace a nicked bike than a mugged mum ..

It is indeed. I am waiting for the police to arrive.

Every bike shop in London knows about my bike, so if they try to sell it to one, then they are buggered.....I just hope that is what they do.

Well, I am still waiting for the police to come round.....getting a day off work though so can't complain about that.

I have done everything I can to find my bike. It is quite a well know bike on the race scene, every person I know who races has been informed. So if someone is stupid enough to try and ride it at any race venue in England or Frace, someone will know. In fact, if they ride it at any well known riding spot they will get a shock!

Every bike shop in London has a spec list and pic of my bike.

I am keeping an eye on e-bay

I have put up "Stolen, reward possible" posters

I am about to place an add in MBUK and Dirt (MTB mags)

Oh man, talk about bad luck... Sorry to hear this, jon. I can imagine you are devastated. I hope the thief tries to sell your bike and gets caught. I probably wouldn't have insured the bike either in your case and I know after a while you just ban the thought it ever might get stolen. It's a hard blow when it does happen.

Well, I worked out the insurace, it would have cost £480 a year, so that is nearly a grand. :? I know the bike is worth 3k but hummm, trying to think of positives.

Just went into a cold sweat when I build up my 'dream' bike £4178, hummm, me thinks I have to tone that down a bit!

I'll never will buy a bike, and certainly not that expensive, Its just so much easier to get your bike stolen than anything else.

And btw, what's up with your back window?

Did they steal anything else, why did they broke your window?
Did nobody heared anything or saw something?

jon_s
03-17-2004, 09:45 AM
They were going to steal all my speakers e.t.c, but when they looked in the garage they found the bike and probably thought that was enough.

They did not break it, they just cut around the seal and left the window in tact. Hence no noise!

Damn, is it just bad luck rush or is the world becoming worse? Its hard to come to a normal life after these sort of stuff happens to you. I got my car stolen once, and no I cannot live without checking where it is or if someone is close to it.

FUCK MATE, not you too!
Argh man this pissed me off more than having my bike stolen, cus u arnt lucky enough to have insurance.
Shit im so sorry for you mate, and you were so helpfull to me when i was unfortunate enough to have the same shit experience.
I can tell you that if i happened to come across someone riding round on either of our bikes, i dont think i'd hesitate to kick the living shit out of them!
some people are such jealous bastards, why cant they put some hard work in themselfs to be able to buy things rather than go round causing other people misery!
ARRGHHHHHHHHH SCUM!!!!!!

jon_s
03-24-2004, 10:06 AM
lol, cheers combsie66, I think I could feel the aggression coming out of the screen lol.

I finally got my window fixed this morning! It took Ford long enough to get the seals in.

You just can't win with insurance.......it costs shit loads to have, and the bike cost shit loads to replace. If the bike had not been stolen this time next year I could have bought a brand new bike just out of the premiums I would have paid out. As it is, I could have bought you a new bike instead. Unfortunately I got hit just at the wrong time, when on paper it would have been more cost effective to have insurance.

The police have been around, taken finger prints e.t.c They believe that I was followed home from a race, which is why they knew about the bike. I think I will stick to my story of their good fortune bothering to look in the garage, as being followed home for a minimum of an hour is not a nice feeling!

Also, if they knew about the bike why did they try and break into the car? Although the police say they may have been disturbed. Another theory they have is that they were going to put the bike in the car and then drive off in my car. I would have been seriously pissed off then.

I am missing my bike so god damn much! The money I had saved up as the deposit on an S3/house is now going into my bike. So I am 3-3.5k down in that department. Which is a pain, cos I have worked damn hard for that money, and some little fucker ran off with it in 10mins!

coombsie66
03-24-2004, 10:55 AM
Ah shit, the coppers didnt find anything from the fingerprint dustings?
Well, onwards and upwards, life goes on, what u gunna go for next?!!!?! Another santa cruz? U compete in DH often? If you do u must have bin down my neck of the woods a few times? Somerset?

jon_s
03-24-2004, 03:45 PM
They found some prints, but I suspect they are mine lol

I do compete quite a bit. I race in the Nationals, Dragons (Wales). I have been down your way, at the Combe Sydenham which is down your way. I have also done a few French races in the alps. Watched the World Cup in Scotland and Les Gets. As for the next bike, hummmmm......

03-24-2004, 06:36 PM
The santa cruz has gotta have a more rigid rear end with that more complex pivot mechanism, but probably weighs more! The orange is smart!
Ive never been to coombe sydnam, but ive heard of it. So your pretty seriously into it! Ive never had the balls meself, some of those downhills r mental!!!!

jon_s
03-24-2004, 06:47 PM
Yeah, the Santa Cruz weighs a lot!

It has its pros and cons though. It is so efficient at staying on the ground that it is a bitch to jump. You can't even bunny hop the thing. Not so much because of the weight, but the fact that it has 4inches of sag (negitave travel).

The pivot system is rather clever. The rear wheel travels in an 'S' shape. When you sit on it, the 4inch sag brings the wheel closer to you. i.e at the bottom right of the 's'. Then when you hit a rock, the wheel, instead of fighting aginst it, moves to the top left of the 's' in effect making the wheel base slightly longer.

As a result, if you had a straight downhill with a load of rocks, and rolled down the hill in both the 223 and V10, the V10 would win by miles due to the smaller resistance. I think that just about makes sense!

coombsie66
03-24-2004, 06:59 PM
Yeah, i had a ride on a spooky ex national DH bike, that fucker was heavy, and a bitch to jump! Also i had a ride on a Giant ATX 1 and that was practically impossible to bunnyhop! I find that i dont feel in controll of the bike if i cant manual or bunnyhop them, hence i only like short travel full susers.
Although i wanna get that cruz just to be able to roll over anything in your way!!!!!!!
Oh man, i practiacally gave up on my riding after i got my car, but hinking back i do miss it. I might get back into it when i get me new bike.

What is wrong with this pic??

LOL, no front brake! Fuck that for a laff!!!!! That guys either very brave or very stupid!!!!

jon_s

Stupid....very stupid IMO lol

There is no way I could ride without a front brake as quickly as he did!

coombsie66
03-25-2004, 10:29 AM
I cant ride without a front brake full stop! I dont feel safe, just like it dont feel right if i ride without at least one finger resting on the brake lever. Even when im jumping.

Have you seen the new(-ish) "earthed" video/DVD?? That will get you back into riding. It is my most watched DVD in the house!

Sorry to hear the bad news- hopefully the cops do their job and ur bike is recoverd.. holding thumbs for u..

No ive never watched earthed, i had a few other decent vids, but in the end its who ur mates are who you ride with who get you to go bigger and faster.
Me mates who i used to ride wiv, we've all moved on to modifying cars, ones got a saxo vtr, ive got me foces and the others got a new mini cooper, we're all bout the same speed.
I like trick riding quite a bit, i used to be able to wheely for however long i wished on me old bike. Should be able to get to that on me new one, once i get used to it (as long as it has decent rear brake!!!)

03-27-2004, 06:29 PM
if the car and the bike were in your house/garage you could try to claim it on home owners insurance ....... like when your house is broken into and something in your house is stolen ....you could look into that. i was not sure or not if the car was parked outside or inside... sorry to hear about your bike.

jon_s
03-28-2004, 08:42 AM
For some reason, the bikes were insured for £300 each. That was ment to be £3000, but a mistake was made. We have no idea who made it, but at the end of the day we should have made sure so it is our fault.

Also, there are other issues. If you under-insure stuff (i.e my bike £300, when it is £3000) The insurance co. woun't even pay out the £300, as we should have been paying more money to them for the increased risk. Insurance co.'s are pretty much in a win win situation lol

Oh, comb, when we get our bikes (mine is likely to come june/july), you can come ride with me and my mates....we will show you a few spots that not too many people know about

coombsie66
04-01-2004, 12:09 PM
^^ Yeah, when i get my bike too!!
U'll woop my ass big style if you are as good as you sound!!! I cant jump like those maniacs in the magazines!

jon_s
04-01-2004, 05:55 PM
We all have stuff to learn, and I am more than happy to take you to a few spots. I can't style up a jump like a few pros can, but I can be pretty quick on two wheels.
