So, I notice that cars then to have their brake calipers in different positions along the disc. Some have them in the back horizontal to the ground, others have them in the front slightly rised.

And I also notice that the rear position often doesn't match the front position.

Does anyone know is there is difference/advantage/disadvantage to have them in a certain position?

have a look at http://www.linksheaven.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=3068
explains the theory behind variations in brake caliper placement and pros/cons for each. a good read indeed. 8)

Thanks buddy. So nothing definitive.

I never noticed it, but I was just looking at some pics the other day and realized that they were in different positions.

interesing...
so how many feet in breaking can b saved by moving the caliper?

Probably none, but from what I understood, it was more to do with cooling the brakes down, therefore increasing their effective life or changing the balance of the car (although, I never thought that they were heavy enough to make that big of a difference! :?. If you got a driver to race two GT3's around a track for 20 laps, does anyone think that driver would know what the position of the brake was??)

It's funny you should asked that :) . . . asked and it'll be delivered.

Jon but at the expensive of cooling down the brakes you might mess w/ aerodynamics.

Yeah, they should do a test like that. Run two or more cars w/ different positions and see what happens.

Interesting, have to admit, never though brakes would mess with Aerodynamics, but I understand how they might now.

Well if you have big BrakeCalipers, and are painted very attractively, you'd like then to be in the rear side of the disc. Specially when you have RIMS that show the Calipers neatly. It is mainly about the show off, Like I had changed the position of my Car's Calipers from front to back. Thats the way I like em. I think it doesnt really perform any different (in everyday use atleast).
