Mmmmm, I really don't know what to say, thank God Its just a concept.

BADMIHAI

So they're gonna make a slower car than the SLR. Big deal. They should just leave the supercar making to McLaren. Mercedes is not really cut out for this. I mean they're interested more in the comfort section, which leads to compromises (see the SLR's big boot).

Its a car to aim the ferrari market , you know , a Mclaren to fight the 911 , 360 and gallardo , but branded as mclaren

I think I agree with you, BADMIHAI. Mercedes is a cruiserbrand. Why not let McLaren do their supercar thing, an keep the Mercedes star for the soft cruisers?

That said, it sure has potential to become a great car. It looks like most of the formula is rightexcept one thing: Automatic transmission in a sportscar? Even with 7 gears it seems wrong!

Yea, it's like whatever. No true car enthusiast looks at this car in the same way they look at a Ferrari or Lambo.

WAT THE F*** FLIPPIN HELL
Y If they wanna make a supercar y not just recreate the Mclaren F1 with a merc insted of a bimaz engine flip
Or they dont even have to do that just start puttin the McLaren F1 into production again i mean P8 wat the fuck kinda name is that, i mean credz to merc for the SLR.
Nut not enuf credz to mclaren they would have done stella job if mclaren had made most of the car, to say the truth i only like mercs coz i Love Mclaren, I like honda more. Im gonna shut up now coz ill go oon and on.
If they make that car ill h8 merc or atleast let mclaren do most of it

What about the rumours of McLaren making their own line of cars? Did those not pan out?

FerrariFerrari

What really got me worried is when I read "Given M-B’s penchant for high-tech
gadgets, the P8 is likely to employ the latest in electronic driver aids, too." :(.
They will have to lose all that electronic gadgetry and that automatic trans before
I select them above a Ferrari. And I certainly hope that it doesn't look like the
car in the pictures, cause if it does Ferrari and Laborghini have it beat hands
down for sex appeal. But all said I think that it does have a place in the market,
just not in the purist sector.

What about the rumours of McLaren making their own line of cars? Did those not pan out?

I think this is the start of that plan going into practice.

It has all the sex appeal of a computer chip.

Im kinda dissapointed with McLaren, I wanted to see a new car that would take back the top-speed title, but this thing is only out to beat GT's and 360s. :(

i don't think mclaren made that car, the back looks 100% like the old CLK models, don't u think?

Yeah I agree, Mercedes has had too much influence on the cars that they have come up with together, McLaren should either backhand Mercedes and tell them how to build a car or they should just get rid of Mercedes all together and make a car completely by themselves, which they have obviously already done with the McLaren F1, and look at the results...in many peoples opinions this is the greatest road car ever made and it has set the future benchmark for all other supercars to come.

The rear lights remind me of the DB9..
I really think that they should let Mclaren deal with the supercar idea and Mercedes just provides the cash..

When I read the topic of this post I though that Mclaren will made a new version of their Mclaren F1 but guess I was wrong. Turned out another expensive not very exotic looking car.. :(

If everything occurs like in F1, they will make a 200 bhp engine wich will break after 1000 miles. :(

HeHeHe. What I think they should do for styling is take some
of the cues of the Mclaren F1, which I consider to be the best
looking exotic of all time, if they did that they would have a car
that would have real sex appeal, that could easily take on the
likes of the 360.

You all forget that the Macca was Gordon Murray's car - his inspiration and dream - not a collaborative project of invitation...

...the SLR, this new P8 and future collaborative efforts are about creating and selling a profitable automobile... see if for what it is.

It's much more mercedes than mclaren. And whats with this Automatic transmission shit in supercars?!?! At least have a paddle shift manual. The Mclaren name shouldn't be associated with this car. McLaren is would be much better off and is much better suited to sticking along the lines of proper exotics like the F1 than this "cross over" business. I would really like to see what Mclaren could bring us now!!

I kinda wish Merc would leave McLaren alone.....I am not liking the results in general :?

I wounder how much financial help Merc are giving.....I could contribute £1/month, do you think that would encourage McLaren to spilt the link?? lol

The rear lights also have a strong resemblance to those of the Audi Nuvolari and Le Mans Quattro.

Too bad they stole the best looking part on the car. The front is hideous as usual. McLaren is indeed better off without Mercedes, jon. Mercedes should just focus on building barges and the odd luxurious two-seater convertible and stop trying to feed us so-called supercars with automatic transmissions and a chronic lacking of spirit.

hmmmm..... yuck!

well u guys mclaren isnt exactly as flushed with cash as mercedes is ... so i think lot of coroprate stuff comes into play..

and by the way maclaren didnt make the F1... it was gordan murray...
and it him ONLY..

Don't you mean a 3.0 L N/A V10 with a redline somewhere around 18.000 rpm, pushing out a humble 900+ hp?

Well McLaren would nowhere near be able to make anything were it not for Mercedes 200+million contribution to make them a dedicated factory.

Whats with all this hate for Mercedes anwyay? Jealousy?

Mercedes-Benz as a standalone marque is one of the most prestigious and honoured car manufacturers around, take it or leave it.

sigh, the front fenders somehow remind me of the RX-8.
what the world needs is a treat of the McLaren Combo: Mclaren, Murray and M-Power.

why now that's 3M or M3, or some lame wisecrack.

So my £1 a month is not enough??

I don't hate Merc! As you said, as a stand alone marque they are pretty damn good. However, that does not mean I have to like the results that they produce with McLaren. The SLR is trying to be the Jack of all Trades, instead of a pure supercar. First off, the engine is in the front.

Yep that's the only thing I don't like about the SLR, It has space for golfbags :!: :!: :!: :!: :!:

What if BMW made the car with McLaren.... :?:

The SLR did the Nring in 7.44, as quick as the Zonda. It has every concievable luxury that you can imagine. So what if the engine is in the front, it still handles awesome for 1768kgs!

And think about this, its as quick as the Zonda/Enzo/CGT despite being 400kgs heavier than all of them, and you can drive it in traffic without having to break your leg operating foot mounted pedals.

It may not have the fun factor of a Zonda or an Enzo, but its still a supercar, and deserves as much respect for being that at least.

Cars come and go, SUPERCARS stay forever...

If I wanted a front engined car which was damn quick, I would get a Brabus.

If I had enough money for an SLR, I would more than likely have a luxuary car as well. For me, 'my' supercar would be an all out sports car. You can even scrap the AC (maybe lol)

As for respect, I never said I don't respect the SLR, I just don't like it.
