These are the pictures of the Murcielago Roadster. It'll be coming out in the second half of 2004 and will be capable of doing 330km/h just as his closed brother.

I like it!

I don't see any meaning for this type of convertible cars...

They look ugly...like the Diablo roadster...

If someone wants to get a car with high performance and open top wouldn't it be better to buy a SL55 instead of an ugly Murcialago Roadster????

Can't really use it like the coupe!

Chaos in 1983!

yeah...this is old...but it's not a convertible...it won't have a roof at all...

Great looking car, but if the black one is the production version (the yellow one is a prototype) then it's too bad they stuck with the wheels of the prototype. I don't like those at all.

I bet this is the new Lamborghini that is to be unveiled in Geneva. Make sure to take lots of pics, TT!

Anyone saying a Lamborghini roadster is useless should watch one of Jabba's videos.

Lamborghini Murciélago Roadster debuts at the Geneva Motor Show

2 March 2004…Automobili Lamborghini has unveiled the Lamborghini Murciélago Roadster, a derivative of the Murciélago coupé, at the 2004 Geneva Motor Show. Originally presented as a concept car at the Detroit Motor Show in 2003, the roadster version of the 200mph super car has already generated significant worldwide interest.

Continuing the tradition of Lamborghini’s 12-cylinder roadsters, which have included the Miura and the Diablo, the Murciélago Roadster is a direct descendent of the coupé version. Featuring the unmistakable Lamborghini styling, it harnesses the same power and speed, and delivers the same exceptional handling and safety features as the coupé. Designed for open-top driving, it includes a manually fitted roof.

Production will commence in the second half of 2004, with first UK deliveries in spring 2005 and a list price circa £190,000. Dominic Lancaster, general manager of Lamborghini London says, "The Murciélago is the ultimate performance car. The roadster has the aggressive good looks traditionally associated with both the Murciélago and the marque, but also adds a new dimension to the range. If the Lamborghini Murciélago is the fastest full production car currently available, then the Murciélago Roadster is the fastest open top sports car on the market. We look forward to having the Lamborghini Murciélago Roadster available alongside the coupé, which also now includes the option of an e-gear transmission."

The Lamborghini Murciélago 12-cylinder, 6.2 litre aluminium alloy engine produces 570 bhp at 7500 rpm, and 650 Nm torque (479 lb/ft) at 5400 rpm. The Lamborghini Murciélago can exceed 330 km/h (over 200 mph) and accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 3.8 seconds.

Concept

Presented as a concept car in 2003 in Detroit – where it generated significant interest among Italian supercar enthusiasts – the production version of the Murciélago Roadster makes its official debut at the Geneva Show 2004. Manufacture and sales are planned for the second half of this year for the Roadster.

The latest arrival at the House of the Raging Bull takes its inspiration from the great Italian tradition of open vehicles.

As powerful, fast and extreme as the Coupé version from which it derives, the Lamborghini Murciélago carries on Lamborghini’s twelve cylinder roadster tradition: from the 350 GTS to the Miura Roadster, right up to the most recent Diablo Roadster.

This has been achieved without compromising the performance expected from a real Lamborghini. Thanks to accurate design, the open version also delivers excellent handling, acceleration and driving safety characteristics.

The Murciélago Roadster version builds on the extreme and exclusive features of the Coupé thus confirming it as a real “icon” of the Lamborghini brand.

The new Lamborghini era started in 2001 with the Murciélago, followed in 2003 by the Gallardo, continues with the arrival in 2004 of the Murciélago Roadster, which enhances and further increases the undisputed value of the Murciélago range.

Gorgeous. What about a targa? I am a huge fan of those, and I think a Gallardo Targa would be sweet. Are there any 4WD targas available anyway besides the old Diablos? I don't think the C'segg CC is 4WD.

"Lamborghini are at the Geneva show with their latest hot goods. Now on a roll with people queuing up to buy the Murciélago and the slightly more affordable Gallardo, the company has now revealed the Murciélago roadster.

Production plans are already in place and the first cars are expected before the end of the year. It's as powerful as the coupe with the same 580bhp V12 engine.

Lamborghini are keen to point out that this is a well engineered solution. Hacking the top off supposedly hasn't adversely affected handling, performance or safety."

Does anyone know if it has a roof like the Diablo Roadster, a softtop or no roof at all?

Jabba
03-04-2004, 11:47 AM
As I understand it....it has an emergency get you home quick type of roof....that has a speed restriction on it...I find this extremely sad and a huge disappointment as without a proper roof then this car isn't really suitable for the UK due to the amount of rain we have here.

http://www.vwvortex.com/artman/publish/autoshows/article_692.shtml

stradale
03-04-2004, 12:03 PM
I'm disappointed with that as well. You need to be able to use such a car and a roof like that restricts the usability of it too much IMO. I never liked it about the Ferrari 550 Barchetta and it's a shame Lamborghini chose it for the Murciélago. Weather like that isn't unique for the UK (we have it and a lots of other countries as well) and that means that in all these countries the car is only going to be used for relatively small outings on very sunny days when absolutely no rain is forecast. When you own one of these you don't feel like taking a risk and having to put up a fidgety roof and trundle home in your Lamborghini. That kind of use is not good enough for a car of this caliber.

Jabba
03-04-2004, 12:33 PM
100 % agree and after going to alot of trouble to develop a solid roof for the Diablo I see this as a step in the wrong direction.

I can only think that as the roof wasn't 100 % perfect for the Diablo (it leaks quite badly) then they might have trouble making this one water tight as well.....and if it wasn't going to be 100 % perfect then it probably wouldn't be worth all the hassle they would get from customers expecting a perfect roof.

A 100 % fully automatic and water tight roof would have made the car too expensive perhaps.

yg60m
03-04-2004, 01:05 PM
There is a Switzerland company that developped a electric roof for the Diablo : Affolter i think. I don't know if it's reliable or if it works well but i know they did it. Maybe TT could say more on that

stradale
03-04-2004, 01:15 PM
With everything Affolter does on Lamborghinis the most important question is not 'Does it work?', but 'Does it look as awful as their previous mods?'.

TT
03-04-2004, 01:33 PM
HAHAHA, Afolter is pretty famous yes, but they can also mess up beautiful cars sometimes :D But maybe for a "simple" electric roof they can't go THAT wrong :D

Yep...I mean you would hardly be noticed in the Murcielago...so thats definitely the non-show offs model.

I would also add that although never mentioned in great detail I have found the stiffer suspension fitted to the 355 spider actually seems to be an improvement over the TB and GTS models that I had previously in terms of handling...and the same goes for the Diablo Roadster over the 2WD...although they are harder to compare as one has VT and one doesn't.

Welcome to JW, KLD. You have a great site dedicated to one of the world's ultimate car makers. I also saved quite a few of your Geneva pictures. Thanks.
