The second edition of the highest-performing 190E is sold to European customers. This one uses a Cosworth-modified 2.5 L inline-4 mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. Add to that larger brakes, wheels and performance tires to further differentiate it from the rest of the 190-series. Unlike its predecessor, (the 185 hp 190E 2.5-16 built 1988 - 1993) which was not an iteration of a competition car, this car has the complete aerodynamic dressing that its competition-bred brother has. Huge fender-flares house the 18" wheels, while the large frontal air-dam ducts air for better brake-cooling and superb downforce. Over the rear window is a large hood, which routes air downward, minimizing the suction effect found on the decks of all sedans. The finishing touch is the F40-style wing on the deck.

These cars are very rare, and were offered in exactly three trim-levels. The first had a cloth interior, the second had leather, and the third had leather and AC. Most of the Evo's produced were of the last trim level. About 500 are known to still exist, most of which are in the hands of collectors. There were no right-hand drive models built by the factory.

These cars are very different from the rest of the 190-series. Their motors are heavily altered by Cosworth, and the parts underneath were also derived from competition models. That makes owning one of these rare steeds more costly than owning one of the lesser models.

The significantly more powerful Porsche-built 500E stole most of the luster of this car. It continued until 1994, before bowing out

i think there was (are)great cars for design i prefer the 190 but for drive m3 rules!!!

i prefer the old "human" M3 an 190

Same here :D the modern interpretations are amazing, fast, powerfull and perfect cars, but yet, there is something special in the E30 and 190E 16v :D

Between M3 CSL and new c55 amg, M3 but i think that the brabus version of the mercedes will be more beatiful

has to be the E30 M3,so sexy for how old it is now.nice power for its year and RWD.the merc is pretty much same performance but the bimmer is nicer lookin IMO,so for me the M3 is the winner

While these older M3s aren't ultra-high performance cars, they sure are fun play with. They make great daily drivers and are great for just cruising around in style. For that, I give them great street credit and respect.

I'm a huge fan of AMG...but at that time the M3 was better than the 190...

MB was never good in manual gears...but they are the best in automatic trans.!!! 8)

I think your wrong about that, I mean they practically use the same technology and
may I ad that Mercedes has a bigger resource than bmw.
Bmw copies most of the (good)things from Mercedes, wich I can understand because they can't take too much risks

Hmm, might I add, BMW were the first car company in the world to use 6-speed automatic gearboxes in their cars (E65 7 etc, 2001) whereas Mercedes have only recently finally come up with their own 7-speeder. The SL still uses a 5 speed automatic.

Whilst we see BMW moving away from the "same sausage different lentghs" design philosophy which they actually sort of pioneered (non-BMWphiles might find it hard to tell old BMWs apart, so similiar and evolutionary were their designs, E3 saloon right up to E34 5 Series), albeit not too successfully, Mercedes have decided to stick SL-esque headlights on almost anything they make, SLR included.

Mercedes are prestige cars, no doubt, even A-Class included. BUt to say BMW cannot take risks? What are they doing now? Merc are guilty of not taking risks, look at the 1997 E-Class and the (new)2002 E-Class. A nip and a tuck here and there, plus S-Class taillights. Is that a risk? Agreed, that Mercedes has moure resources, partly because they also make (wait for it), buses and lorries, and share resources with Chrysler. BMW, thankfully, are still independent, as are Porshce.

Back to the matter at hand, Shaquille O'Neal has a heavily modified 190E similiar to the one shown above, and even he says that it's basically for showing off in. An M3, for the drive, would be more worth it, IMO. ANyoen can pose, not everyoen can drive. (= cheers.

Well I agree partially on what you said, but the risk bmw took with the new 7 and 5
is not really smart, I think they wanted to be ahead on Mercedes and I think most
ppl like the previous models and so do I. Ok and maybe for te copy stuff they don't
really do it, but you can't deny it that they do follow mercedes in some areas
