Virus's: There are a lot but generally they only show up if you are d/Ling a small app.

RIAA: Im pretty sure they only are catching uploaders.

No it's not IMO.. just avoid downloading exe files as for RIAA they won't argue if you won't download 10'000 mp3 every day ;)

I haven't used Kazaa in ages because I didn't install a virus scanner at the time and I had to format because of it.
What do you plan to download? If its video files or music I use IRC, but for programs and such I use ed2k, overnet or emule.

DC++...you can get virtually anything at high transfers. But ya must share a lot, usually over 10 or 20Gigs (anything up to 165GB!!).

You can have the virus with any file.. It can be attached easly to any file (like 1kb-600MB)..
I was usin kaza for 3 years I though.. I never had viruses.. First thing when u download something scan it with a updated antivirus program.. And the other thing I was 2 lucky because of havin no viruses..

I'd actually recommend Kazaa Lite K++. Stay away from Imesh, if you;ve heard of it, and i cant comment on DC since i've never heard of it.

KLK++ isnt too bad, and its similar enough to Kazaa to make the transition easier. It has no pop-ups, adware or spyware, and the downloads are pretty fast. I dont have a URL as to wher eyou can d/l it (it was free), since the makers of Kazaa want to sue the makers of KLK++.

I do have the installer though. Mesg me on MSN or YM if you want it. (=

02-22-2004, 08:34 PM
DCC is godly, but I'm too cheap and I don't have enough bandwidth to share enough to get some decent stuff. I suppose one of the spyware free Kazaas would be good for music and videos, although I don't use Kazaa anymore.

what's the big mystery? just download kazaa lite k++ and stop bickering, get yourself a good free firewall and/or virus scanner and click away, it's easy

Shit ...that would scare me.....I got one of those warnings after transferring 20 GB over my ftp in only a few days....they just threatened to cut me off!

we seem to be pretty lucky here in oz..
i havnt heard of many/any(?) people have any legal action taken against them..
but kazaa is in court at the moment over in Sydney. the outcome should be interesting.
as they've said, since the fasttrack network is decentralised, it isnt as simple as pulling a plug.
good luck to the ARIA  they'll need it.

just don't allow uploading or sharing just be a leach and your fine if they can't get the list of your songs off Kazaa they cn't do anything and if they get it another way countersue them or find out their IP and hack their asses! but seriously don't worry about it unless you have thousands of songs and you choose to share them. Hey who knows you might get a contract with Pepsi and Apple too if you get caught.

kazaa like anything CAN be dangerious if you don't know what you are doing...
but u are a smart boy.. so download away!

ive never had a problem..
but i run dialup and generally dont have the bandwidth to share, which is good and bad. sorry to those of you i may have leached off 8)
i think its the users who share bulk amounts of music who the RIAA [and their respective international counterparts] will have a problem with..
never had a problem with viruses either.
i think its fair to say that if your outside of the US, your quite a bit safer from such authorities -- but im sure this will change in the near future.

possessed_beaver

never had a problem with viruses either.

personaly i got a virus..
it was just anyoing more than anything and all i had to do was re-start in safe mode and remove it.
bare in mind i would of downloaded THOUSANDS of files, and to only of had one problem is pretty good, compared to things i have downloaded off the net that have had virus's...

but i stand by saying THERE IS NOTHING wrong with kazaa..
(but make sure u use kazaa lite!!)

Agree with some of the recent posts get Kazaa Lite, decent firewall and antivirus and u should be fine. i've been using it ever since i got to uni and the only viruses i've got are when i download programs not vids and music which most people use it for

pranesh76

Kazaa as i know it doesnt contain viruses but contains spyware. spyware is basically things that track things such as sites you've been to etc and it uploads it to a server somewhere where they use the information to get money by selling all these statistics to companies. You usually get viruses by downloading .exe files from kazaa. I've recently had to format someones hd because that person had downloaded some video files that messed up explorer(not IE)..so everyone should take care when downloading stuff.

One option is to download kazaa-lite. Its a version of kazaa without the crap that comes along with it.

Hope that helps.

i was just wondering if kazaa and kazza lite++ was different?

02-26-2004, 10:33 AM
kazaa lite is the way to go...it has an internal download speedup thing that works pretty well and u dont get pops ups either. keeps kazaa from reallly boggin down ur computer. also i wish u didnt have to share so much with others cause my (as i am sre many others here as well) shared folder is a fucking goldmine! i bet if i put it up for downloading for a month it would push over ten gigs of uploads....

i haven't ever been asked to upload stuff to other since i started using it nearly 6 months ago, i use kazaa lite which is basically kazaa with all the 'spyware' removed it runs well and can be really quick. However its getting harder to find as i don't think its strictly legal as the people who modified kazaa to get rid of all the anoying ads etc didn't have the right to change it!! but you can still find it try this address

Definitely you set it up wrong.. not allowing sharing from your machine or with an empty shared folder.. (or not interesting stuff).. and that's not really the concept behing p2p..

I'm not a big sharer myself, last time I connected I had like 1200 files (probably around 30 GB) , but every time I'm in, I'm also uploading at full boost after some 15 seconds...

Go with Kazaa Lite. Make sure your virus defenitions are up to date. I downloaded a virus and it was a pain to remove. That was mostly my fault because at the time my virus defenitions were really outdated.

TT: I have allowed sharing and have a fair bit of interesting vids/movies and music in my shared folder (totals around 8GB) reckon it might be my firewall or somethin its strange because my mates in the same halls of residence say the same thing might be something to do with the LAN network we are all on. I agree with you the whole idea is to share and people should but sensibly so its not obvious to the authorities that you are sharing huge amounts of files.

RIAA: Im pretty sure they only are catching uploaders.
I got a nasty e-mail from my ISP. The RIAA contacted them as they found out I was sharing various apps through Kazaa. I got a slap on the wrists and told that if I got caught again they would cancel my account.

I haven't used Kazaa since.

you don't want to mess with Kazaa...not only does it have the most pirating related indictments, but also it doesn't really have a firewall so you are susceptible to all sorts of virus', trojans, and other computer infestations.

I take vids from there as samples, vids I like I buy on DVD, if not, I erase them after seeing. DVD is much better and you can watch in on normal TV. Same with mp3's.
Downloading them for seling them to other people -> yes, this should be punished cause ppl who made that movie and mp3s did they'r job, and just like you in your job - wanna get payed.

I've been using Kazaa alot recently and I've noticed, for some damn reason my internet is ALOT slower then before. (with kazaa off and closed of course)

Yes I do know once you close it its still running in the background, let me assure you that it is closed completely.

It for some reason increased my latency. I measured it at 1150ms with www.pcpitstop.com

Weird ay?

TT

When you close it, it will simply stop running.. but remember that if you hit the X in the top right corner you simply minimize it. To close Kazaa you have to right click on it's little icon in the bottom right and "exit".
