could someone share their key with me? :)
Fortunately doesn't work that easily. :) They have made a great copyprotection.
You have to be logged in to their site with username and password to get the key. And you have to unlock the game with the key within an hour, also logged in with username and password. And then the game detects hardware changes so you can't copy the game to another computer.
Live for speed S1 only costs £12. I think it is really worth the money, and paying for it will keep them developing Live for speed S2 and S3 also.
Buy it :!: 8)
Except the hardware keygen piece is what stopped me from spending the 12 quid...
I should not have to reregister software if I choose to change hardware on my PC - which I do often.
Their loss.
That feature alone is stopping MANY people from registering.
All the other copy protection features are ok - but the hardware code gen is just stupid.

I dont understand what you are trying to say. You get as many keys as you need. You only pay once. And you get three keys a month in case you resintall or reformat or whatever. If you run out of your monthly limit of 3 they will still give you a key if you email them.
Yes, I don't see the problem either. I think it is a good thing, as they (the three guys developing LFS) get paid for their work, and will continue developing. Without the hardware code I guess it would be too easy to crack.
I have changed hardware and changed OS myself after installing LFS for the first time, takes a couple of moments to get a new code and activating it.
Doesn't matter how easy it is to do - I should not be "forced" to re-download ANYTHING after they have got my money. Once is enough - just like almost every other CD-Key protected application.
As I say - their loss - not mine. I spend a lot of money on software - but I have my principles.
The number one thing is that I am never forced to re-apply/join/down-load/re-connect etc.
I should still be entitled to use what I paid for without an Internet connection.
As far as how easy it is to crack without the hardware crack - also their problem not mine.
I am in the business of being a customer, and as such, their costs and troubles of doing business are not mine.
Simple really. ;)
You don't need to re-download anything, only get a new key and enter it in the game menu. Agree its a problem that one can't register without a internet connection, but most people have these days, and LFS is mainly made for online racing. And it seems like you are connected also. You can use it without internet connection btw, but only not the registering part.
Its their choice to make it that way, I support it, you don't.
They have for sure taken in to consideration that a few doesn't like this. I don't think its a loss for the developers and not for the rest of the LFS Community either;
If it had normal protection like other games, it would quickly be cracked like all of them, and they would definately have fewer customers but lots more users because of piracy.
AND, then the racing wouldn't be as clean as it is now. I know, because before the game was released when we played the betaversions (which were free for all), there where lots of times annoying wreckers racing around making havoc and spoiling the fun. After S1 was released I have not encountered or heard much about that problem anymore.

Their loss.
on the contrary, its yours

nope - theirs... I still have their 12 quid... in fact I have already given it to another publisher.. ;)
Don't worry - the game will get developed to a decent level, and then once they taste the dollars offered by a publisher all abets are off... :D

theyve been aproached by numourous publishers...none would give them the control over the project they wanted
so they said no to them all

They just haven't been given real offers.
Be honest - no matter how "noble" you claim to be - when someone offers you 7 figures - you sell out.
Why? Because that is the entire point - to get something besides "creative control" back in return.
Either way - it's pointless getting into these "open source" kind of debates...
Remember when the Linux guys had their chance - and they turned the world down? That was 3 years ago - in the mean time Linux based stocks are worth crap - while the Microsofts etal of the world have made yet another billion or 2.. ;) - and the only Linux distros with a future are being dogged by SCO and it's lawyers... LOL.
The free market is an awesome system... :D
Their loss.

I agree. 8)

you said that the code is hardware generated right??? then maybe it is similar to windows XP code ;).
Not sure how it is generated, but as I have said if you change hardware you have to get a new code from the game homepage.

EXACTLY - an unneeded pain they subject their customer too because of their own lack of skill in protecting their software.
By sending your 12 quid to begin with, you are paying to PREVENT this type of thing - not subscribe to it..
no pain no gain
But I have said my opinions, nothing to add, so my answers to your post lies above :)

believe me, any other method would have heaps of piracy

...again - piracy would be a "cost" of their doing business.. not my being a customer...
Loosing you as customer can't be a big loss (£12) in relation to how much they would have lost in piracy. And as mentioned above the LFS community would suffer.
"an unneeded pain they subject their customer too because of their own lack of skill in protecting their software. Its no pain, takes a couple of moments to do. Lack of skill - they are one of the few developers that so far have been succesfull with their protection.

I am not paying to prevent copyprotection, I paid FOR it, because I like the LFS racing community as it is - lots of clean racing ! I think their great copy protection is a good thing.
How many copies have they sold again? VS NFS Underground - which was copied the week BEFORE it went on sale...
The argument doesnt wash.
They will be a financial failure - and they will wait just too long to take the lunge -and the next group of developers to develop a similar game will take an offer, become the next big franchise and LFS will be but a footnote on a 600mb CD of history... ;)
I don't think so.
They are only 3 people to split the income.
If they didn't make money on it, why would they continue developing it ??
And if another game comes along that can compete with LFS - great !
Competition is good. If the game was good I would buy that one to.
Seems like you're angry because you can't get a copy for free. If you really wanted to buy the game I can't understand why the copyprotection should be a problem.
Btw, its not on a cd, you have to download it. And its not 600 mb.
I am not angry at all.
I buy my game software - because I can afford it, and I reward others efforts - if I am not inconvenienced.
I don't need a copy for free.
I am simply stating my choice as a consumer - that the burden of any company's business should not be mine - except in the form of a purchase price - period.
These guys don't make enough money from their software, that is why they have to covet the installed source so much - for fear someone would copy and share it and they would be out revenue.
That is why the business savvy take their ideas/concepts/software and let a publisher bear the cost burden of distribution while they get the payout of their labour.
The "noble art of software for the people" and "not selling out" and "keeping creative control" is so naive it's laughable.
Cash in - have a life and move on I say ;)
The titles that actually make money are making money even WHILE they are being copied - why?
Because they field the product to a wider audience of buyers.
I have downloaded the demo LFS - and quite frankly is OK, not THAT good... and the reason they don't have my 12 quid is because unlike any other software I currently have - I can disconnect from the Internet and enjoy it - even on a stand alone PC - without being FORCED to go back to the source each time I want to change my system.
That is like being forced to go back to the Publisher when you move your magazine collection from the hall lavatory to the crapper off your den...
It is a matter of principle.
Oh well - to each their own ...
p.s. I was not implying their software was 600mb in size - but rather that LFS will have only a brief 15 minutes of fame and be as outdated as a 600mb CD before the show was over ;)
