Decomissioned Police Crown Victorias

in the back of my mind ive been toying with buying a decomissioned police car, but i really dont know much about them. i think it would be cool to have one though.... are they released because they have problems? or is it something else??
anyone driven one of the police interceptor crown vics? impressions?
how is the power / handling characteristics?

usualy they have different suspension, and also differnet computer chip, and ovisley different wiering for the siren's radio's and shit but apart from that they have been THRASHED TO SHIT!!!!
and driven evrey day of the year night and day...

the only thig you will enjoy is the novilty IMO

Yeah I think when you see it without all the stickers and blue flashing lights, the novelty will wear off very quickly! Then again, do they leave them tuned or do they reduce it to standard?

They leave most of the stuff on there. The issue is that they arent all that tuned to begin with. Theres not much you can do with a crown vic to get over the fact that it weighs a shitload.

If I were getting a police car Id get a police package for a sports car(for example the camaro police package allows you to pay v6 insurance for the v8)

when u buy it, it doesnt come with all the lights etc. All I know is that they have heavy duty suspension, and more power than stock... and possibly a cage for the rear seat. I also was thinking of buying one mainly cuz they are dirt cheap. A 1998 crown vic for $4200 is not a bad deal... But im sure they were beaten to hell before they were sold.

the only reason i ask is because it is a nice deal, and i knwo that they have more power than a stock crown vic.
a site i was looking at buys the cars at 60k miles and reconditions the interior and exterior as well as the mechanics.
again, im probably not gonna give it a close look, just toying with the idea

if you're just looking for a cheap daily driver.. go get an old persons caddy.. they'll never have driven the damn thing and DeVilles lose value like its cool. Sevilles are a little more sporty, similar values.

Lincoln Town cars are cool too.. Friend of mine had one with the air suspension option.. he put little pinholes in the bags so every time he turned it off the whole car would lower down . You can also just re-mount the ride height sensor to get 1" of drop (i know.. its a lincoln).

once again its an old man car.. so it should have low miles, never been abused.. and insurance won't cost more than a gumball.

Really nice long distance cars too.. me and my friends are driving one from Indiana to South Carolina for spring break.

The most important thing to know when purchasing a Decomissioned Police car
is where it served it's duties. If it served in a high crime city like Lasangelise
it's probably been beetin a lot, however if it served in a quiet rural town it's probably
seen a rather quiet life.

Another thing is if it has been involved in any high speed chases. If it has been
used by state truipers it most likely has seen it's far share of high speed chases.

As long as you're careful and know what to look for it's not a bad idea, and as has
already been stated you can get really good deals.

The novelty part is good and funny, because when you tailgate other people they will leave the lane immediately. :lol:

I used to have one and I must say they were good cars the one I had read 35,000 miles it was 2 years old and black on black undercover, they take the cages and the lights out but you can buy them seperately at some of the auctions. The power was pretty damn good for a fucking boat cruiser :D the mileage on it was also better than a normal Crown Vic I loved the car to death. It was fast as fuck and people saw the Crown Vic with the black wheels and crome center hub and move out of the way and slow down it's hilarious. If your lucky they usually have special tires on them as well. The one thing you have to make sure it say's Police Interceptor on the back or it was a normal Crown Vic cause the station was too cheap to buy the better cars. And yes they sell the cars that have been in accidents and some with bullet holes and busted out windows.

The police cars in my area are pretty un-molested. There arent too many high-profile crimes that require speeding car chases. ive checked a few out but in all likelihood i probably will not get one (although i do miss having RWD!! :( :( ) and the cars in my area do have the special tires on them. :twisted: :twisted:

Its nice to have the Police Interceptor badge on the back of your car, and cars exit the left lane quicker than on the Autobahn, but its still a Crown Vic.....Alot of my friends are cops and Ive been for ride alongs, they have nice pick up, but when you only top out at 120.....ick....
