Jabba
07-23-2003, 07:07 AM
yep....and I am taking my cheque book....just in case its as good as I hope it is....does anyone have any pictures of the engine of this baby...I cant seem to remember seeing any yet ???
Yeah, simply awesome! Days ago there was the official presentation here in Switzerland, at both dealership, but nobody wrote me asking if I'm interested LOL!
Jabba
07-23-2003, 07:11 AM
its the same car TT...its dong the "rounds" ...I wonder if I could borrow it for a while...to give it the Jabbas World seal of approval.....btw....how many Lambo dealers does Switzerland have ?
your not alone on that TT.LOL
lol.pictures jabba, just go buy it,u can sit and stare at the engine all day and nite if u wish :P
its the same car TT...its dong the "rounds" ...I wonder if I could borrow it for a while...to give it the Jabbas World seal of approval.....btw....how many Lambo dealers does Switzerland have ?
Two, both in the French part... but I'm pretty sure there is a Ferrari/Maserati dealer in the Italian part that works also with Lambos...
No idea about the German part...
Jabba
07-23-2003, 07:16 AM
yes they are really exclusive...there is only one Authorized dealer in the whole of the UK....I must also remember to ask them about my hat....
i take it that one delearship in the UK is the one near u jabba.
how come there is only one
Yeah, I know about the only dealer in UK. I was surprised when I saw there are two athorized dealer in the small Switzerland :)
Jabba
07-23-2003, 07:30 AM
I think its mostly because Lambo have been a very small company up to now.... that no one has really bothered with....it may change now that Audi own them....
Jabba
07-23-2003, 07:33 AM
I hope I can make this preview....especially as I missed out on a preview of the Enzo earlier on in the year....
http://www.supercarshowdown.co.uk/Untitled475.jpg
But I suppose it won't be possible to drive it... or am I wrong?
Only a preview, with lot of free drinks and maybe some gadgets...
Jabba
07-23-2003, 07:43 AM
Yeh thats why I dont usually bother with those invites...there not the sort of people that would be on Jabbas World that attend them...they wouldnt understand about kitty killing and fake boobs....but this Gallarado one is different...I will have the car more or less all to myself to drool over.....
so u reckon u could get a nice test drive
Jabba
07-23-2003, 07:45 AM
only problem is...its in deep central London..so I doubt you would even get it out of first gear !!!
ah thats a shame, but at least u could get a feel or what it could do when u take it to your favourite road to shoot your vids
Jabba
07-23-2003, 07:50 AM
hahahahah yes...the Jabba test track !!!
stracing
07-23-2003, 08:24 AM
taking your cheque book my ass, bet your heart has already set on it :P
wish i had a lazy 500k aud lying around. my fren in melbourne has already seen the very first baby (test) lambo that arrived in aust. he convinced me it'll be one of the greatest cars.
it has a very tall first gear, so yea you'll never get out of first.
my only problem is not having gullwing doors, but i'd end up saying fark it if i could purchase one of these

I went into a Lambo dealrship with a Ferrari hat on, and I almost got eaten alive. If you didnt know, old Mr.Lambo hated ferrari.

tekwar
07-24-2003, 12:17 AM
Thats a really sweet invite. But just curious, wouldnt the baby lambo be a step down from the diablo and even the F355 in terms of performance?
666fast
07-24-2003, 01:36 AM
500bhp and nearly 400 ft/lbs of torque should make it plenty fast. the car is also pretty damn small.
From what I read, the Murcielago is faster though.
skelter
07-24-2003, 01:45 AM
Well, it's a V10, it's said to crush the 360 Modena, we'll see about that but i don't think it would be a step down, maybe sideways.
Jabba
07-24-2003, 04:13 AM
Thats a really sweet invite. But just curious, wouldnt the baby lambo be a step down from the diablo and even the F355 in terms of performance?
The performance as I understand it... is not far off the Murcielago and therefore it should leave the F355 for dust.... I am hoping it will be more fun and more useable than the Murcielago....
I do know where your coming from though...a Diablo to a Gallarado is kind of a "downstep"....but as skelter said perhaps at this level we should say "sidestep" as the performance of both models is very simlar....

07-24-2003, 04:22 AM
are you gonna keep the 355 and Diablo if you buy a Gallardo? that would be a hell of a garage! what color you thinking about getting?
Jabba

Dont know...thats what I am hoping to decide once I test it...I would imagine it would be yellow...and I will be going down there in the Diablo

mm... maybe not jon :(
It will be interesting when Tiff or Clarkson does a review/test on the Gallardo to see how it does when compared to its bothers and sisters... Its so interesting Lamborghini decided to build a 'cheaper' lambo. I like the idea and i suspect this idea came from Audi as it seems very commercially sensible, not a traditional lamborghini trait. The Gallardo should really knock the (Hyundai styled - looks like a Hyundai Coupe in some ways) Ferrari 360 Modena dead. :D btw im sure Hyundai stole some design ideas from Ferrari.
Nice article on the Gallardo http://www.qv500.com/lamborghinigallardop1.htm

07-26-2003, 09:12 PM
The only apparent flaw of the Gallardo is the lack of scissor doors.
Ziploc
07-26-2003, 09:38 PM
to me the only flaw in the gallardo is that it has 4WD
your not going to get the same driving expeirience as the 355 IMO
but i mean hey if you drive it and you love it why the fuck shouldn't you buy it :D
crazidude
07-26-2003, 09:41 PM
Amazing. I never knew it didn't come with scissor doors. I thought it was a Lambo trade mark to have scissor doors on their cars.

Nice pics Jabba. Its good to see they let you take pics inside the lambo dealership, not like in LA.
Didnt look like they had too many cars? or did you only shoot 2 Murcielagos and a Gallardo? I thought the London dealer would have a few more.
Where are their diablos? Do they keep them at another showroom?
I cant wait till the local lambo dealer lands a Gallardo.

Heh, I wish we HAD a local Lamborghini dealer.

Jabba, what do you think about it? Looks nice in pics, but I'm sure it's better in person.

hi jabba,
could you send me the hi-res photos, just s few of your favourite

Great pics Jabba, nice idea about the little logo in them :)
BTW, in the pics I see only 2 Murci and the Gallardo... it's the only dealer and they only have 3 cars in the showroom?
In the pics I see from our main dealer, they have at least 4 or 5 Murci, 20 Diablos, a Porsche GT1, some countachs all inside the dealership...
Jabba
07-27-2003, 08:09 AM
I will try to answer as many questions here as possible....
I was very surprised to find an orange Gallarado in the showroom as I had presumed it was going to be the yellow one that is currently doing the rounds....I would say it is slighty smaller than a 360 Modena and obvisouly much smaller than a Diablo and a Murcielago...but is still extremely awesome...the thing that hit me the most were the wheels...I think they could be the nicest wheels I have even seen....they are so "raw"
the lack of gull-wing doors is a disappointment but I guess you cant have everything...the back also is a bit strange (interesting how they parked it so you couldnt get a good look at it)....
this was a display showroom only for their latest models...they have a service centre on the other side of London where they have a range of second hand cars including a Muria, Countach, Diablo and a LHD Murcielago for sale....due to a demonstration march by homosexuals and lesbians I wasnt able to get over there and get any pictures...( I wish I had got some pictures of the lesbians now for the lesbian section) LMAO...
it was nice to have some exclusive time to enjoy the Gallarado while everyone else watched from outside the window...and I am indeed interested in it...but I dont think orange is very appealing...different yes...something that you would actually choose...I dont think so....I cant wait to see what the roadster version is going to be like...
tekwar
07-27-2003, 09:55 AM
the reason they dont have the gull-wing doors on the Gallarado from what i hear is that lambo wanted to make it an exclusive to their top of the line cars aka Murcielago and the Diablo. Remember they are calling this new car the "baby-lambo". But the photos are beautiful. The car has really beautiful proportions.
Out of interest, does anyone know the price difference between the Murc. and the Gallarado?
Jabba
07-27-2003, 10:10 AM
I will be posting a scan of the full price list of the Gallarado and all the available extras shortly...
The starting price is a very resonable imo...£99,000 for the Gallarado and just over £160,000 for the Murcielago
Of course it is! Sure not for everyone. But a Lambo isn't meant to be a VW ;)
tekwar
07-27-2003, 10:18 AM
sweet thanks.
yeah thats a really attractive price when compared to its competition, mainly the 360 Modena. And with its promise of outperforming it, could prove to be very tasty.

yes that is what I am so excited about....I cant wait to see a performance test carried out between the Gallarado and 360 Modena and what seems to be the benchmark car imo the 911 Turbo (in this price range)
sweet thanks.

Let's wait for evo :) they won't miss the chance as soon as it will be possible :D
And so far they're really happy after the first miles on the baby Lambo :)
Jabba
07-27-2003, 10:24 AM
funny how thats called the baby Lambo but the 360 isnt called the baby Ferrari...maybe it shouldnt be called the baby but the murcielago should be called "fatso" instead
tekwar
07-27-2003, 10:27 AM
true that the 911 Turbo has been the benchmark for some time now and if it can top these two top selling super-cars, it will definitely make a big impact in the market. Its nice to see lambo creating a car to challenge that segment of the super-car territory. Will be interesting to see the results to say the least.
Well, for Ferrari is more common to have "many" models at the same time.. so it would be hard to name them all: the baby, the mom, the dad, the cousin and mom's lover and so on ;) while Lambo usually has a single model at a time :) but I guess it won't be like that in the future...
Jabba
07-27-2003, 10:29 AM
hahahah... yes nicely put TT.....any member of those familys is great....
Sure! Every single one! :D
tekwar
07-27-2003, 10:36 AM
lol good analogy.
With Audi taking over the helm at Lambo, it seems they are keen to really market the brand to a "wider" group. So far they have done a good job, their new models have been exciting.

funny how thats called the baby Lambo but the 360 isnt called the baby Ferrari...maybe it shouldnt be called the baby but the murcielago should be called "fatso" instead
probably because this is the first time lambo has ever created a "tamer" version of a raging bull, if you can even call it that. not sure how well "fatso" will go with the public....lol
Jabba
07-27-2003, 10:48 AM
I hope they make a rival for the Enzo and Zonda...I mean a car that has a 0-100 mph time of around the 6-7 secs mark would be awesome....
tekwar
07-27-2003, 10:52 AM
I think audi is pretty happy with the murc....and seeing that audi maybe somewhat of a more "conservative" company, i wonder...but then again who knows.
how bout the Koenigsegg CC...now that seems to be a very interesting car. would love to see the stig put up a time for the enzo to make a fair comparison between these cars.
Jabba
07-27-2003, 10:56 AM
that name just doesnt have the marque, history or pedigree behind it (yet) for me...oh and its not Italian...everyone knows a real supercar has to be Italian
tekwar
07-27-2003, 11:02 AM
sweedish car hmmm....i just think of volvo whenever i hear that. And i cant even pronounce that name Koenigsegg but then again Murc. is a handful also. But with a rumoured 0-60 in 3 secs flat and top speed of 245MPH, its no turtle, those kinda specifications would make even the mclaren f1 sweat let alone the enzo and zonda.
Jabba
07-27-2003, 11:08 AM
I agree all the recent names Lamborghini have come up with are silly IMO....what the fuck is murcielago and gallarado (yes I know they are supreme bulls) at least Diablo was easier on the tongue.... the swedish one I wont even attempt yet...
why cant we have names like Enzo and Zonda....much easier and better IMO
tekwar
07-27-2003, 11:25 AM
yeah i agree diablo is one of the best named lambos around. catchy, easy to pronounce, and worthy label of a super-car. i guess as you said if audi has done anything bad so far, it is the naming of their cars. They maybe over doing it to make it sound exotic. Sometimes keeping it simple is better. Zonda and Enzo as you said are perfect examples. Even numbers are good....F1, 911, 355.....
Uhm.. Remember that Zonda is not the name of the model, that didn't change after Audi arrived ;) it's still Automobili Lamborghini :D
--> OMG.. what the hell did I smoke? LOL.. ok, Pagani Zonda C12S, not Zonda C12S.. sorry
As for the best sounding Lambo's name.. Miura all the way for me :D
tekwar
07-27-2003, 11:31 AM
Pagani Zonda......its just sublime.. and i have no comment for Automobili Lamborghini ...omg...
in all fairness to audi, they might not have chosen the names of the new models, but im sure they have a say in it.
And TT you are a Miura freek i assume...but yeah great car with a great name.
Jabba
07-27-2003, 11:34 AM
and still good today both name and looks (and even performance)...I wonder how many cars we could say that about that are made now in 30 years time....
And TT you are a Miura freek i assume...but yeah great car with a great name.
Hell yeah! If I'd have to own a Lambo, I'd like to have a Miura of course :)

I wouldn't worry too much about the car's name. Most people don't even know how to pronounce it like it's supposed to (in Italian).
And then again, the Italian word for 'vacuum cleaner' probably sounds cool as well.

Dang.. also metallic paint is an option... but why not include it in the basic price? White it doesn't exists, does it?
And dang, a lot also for painted brake calipers!
For a full spec one you'll have to pay another 20'000 or more :)
07-27-2003, 04:54 PM
also...wtf is a coming home function ?
I was wondering too.. interesting... :D but well.. if you'll forget the door of the box closed? Disaster!!! the car will smash it while you'll be searching for a ride back home :D
draak666
07-27-2003, 06:00 PM
I think a coming home function is when you get out of you car, the lights stay on for a few seconds until you walked into your house.
And you definitely gotta have painted brake calipers. Not kidding.
And Lamborghini Aspirapolvere sounds really cool, TT. :D
ROTFLAMO!!!!!!! Lamborghini Aspirapolveri (plural form of aspirapolvere) won't sell a single car in Italy, but would be a big hitter in the rest of the world! :D Great!

07-27-2003, 06:24 PM
Is E gear their way of saying automatic transmission?
Despite some stupid options ($667 for painted calipers, wtf?), the Gallardo is still a heck of a lot cheaper than I thought it would be.

I think it is the dreaded paddle shift season

check the photos...and you will see a nice shiny chrome shifter !!
tekwar
07-27-2003, 11:29 PM
with all the options, the price can really add up. By the way, if the e-gear is paddle shifting, wouldnt that make this the first lambo using that technology. it seems like car makers just cant escape the trend.
Jabba
07-28-2003, 04:01 AM
Yes and I am uploading a video of the paddle shift in operation shortly...
tekwar
07-28-2003, 04:17 AM
would love to hear how the engine sounds like compared to the murc. hope they did a better job with the paddle shifts than with the 360. Jeremy seems to hate it bitterly at least.
Jabba
07-28-2003, 04:28 AM
yeh it looks good..but the manual shifts like a blowtorch through butter (on the video)...and looks so sweet...compared to a couple of black paddles
I cant wait to see some performance testing of the Gallarado and see it in the mighty Tiffs hands...which I am sure we will on 5th gear come September
tekwar
07-28-2003, 04:48 AM
definitely very sweet. Im assuming thats the way you would go, and you get to save some cash in the process too.
hah tiff will murder another machine again, looking forward to it as well.
Jabba
07-28-2003, 04:56 AM
yeh I hate all computers in cars...telling me how to shift...how to brake...traction control etc...YUK....and if I have to have it...then it gets switched off immedietely...IMO if you need traction control...then your probably not ready for a Lamborghini yet...

I totally agree, but then again there are countless people who buy a lambo or ferrari for the status symbol and will never really push the car anywhere near its potential. They are likely scared and intimidated by the gas pedal. And i doubt the car companys wants to put their customers at risk of danger before they roll out their next production model.
Jabba

hmm dont remember seeing that, but better not let the kind people at lambo know if you test drive their new baby...they might not be too impressed...
yeah but i think if you buy a super-car, it should be driven the way it was meant to be. Its a bloody shame to lock the car up in the garade and collect dust just to be a musuem piece or what have you. i agree with TT in that too many cars like Enzo and F1 probably to see much of the roads in their lifetime.

Awesome, the Gallardo looks much smaller than the Murcielago, and you can actually see out the rear window. I think that if I had $115,000 pounds plus some more for options, this would be the car to get, no doubt about it. Although I am not all that keen on the rims, as they are just Audi rims with holes in them, that's it, just replace the rims and the car would look even better. JAbba a great job in such a short time. Sell the Roadster and buy one of these, that's just my opinion.

its a very difficult thing for me to decide...I need a daily driver...(currently a bmw 328i) I would like to replace it with maybe an M3 or a skyline R34...then theres the ageing but still lovely 355...that isnt that much slower than the 360...although the 360 spider is damned gorgeous...then we have the Murcielago...well I prefer the Diablo to this...again simlar performace....
if I swapped the 355 for the Gallarado then I would have 2 Lambos and no Ferrari....hmmm I got it...how ablout swap the 355 for a Gallarado...and the Diablo Roadster for an F50....hmmmm..droooooool
It's a nice vid! I know, the car is standing still, but we have to remember this is the first video on the net about it, if we don't consider the little one about Geneva when they turn it on and drive 2 meters to take it out from the cover!

Yes, a JabbasWorld exclusive...
Nice clip you made, Jabba. You showed all the essentials, excellent.
The car seems to have a very small hood, or is that just my impression?
On your future car dilemma: I would keep both the 355 and the Diablo. You will regret it when you get rid of them. If you really want something new, simply swap the 328i for an M3.

Anyway, I haven't quite been able to follow the whole discussion because I just haven't been home a lot. But I must say I like the video, nice footage & damn that car really looks nice. I so can't wait till Top & 5th gear test this one out.

We all need more money to buy all our favoutite cars. The Ferrari and the Lambo are allready classic cars and still as impressive as the day you bought 'em. You do not necessarily need the newest models of those makes.
Still, it's funny to see that a man who owns several supercars still has to go through the same struggle as we do, when deciding on buying a new car.
HAHAHA
Uhm.. don't give away the Diablo Jabba! Noway :D
As for the daily driver, uhm.. what if you'll need to take three friends with you? The Gallardo IMO could be a daily driver but it's still a two seaters...

Jabba, you don't need counseling for it, all you have to do is get in the Diablo or the F355 and go for a nice drive. I'm sure it'll remind you why you bought those cars and why you shouldn't get rid of them.
Hopefully this can be a problem I'll have someday too. Hmmm, which Lamborghini do I want?

If you really really want to buy the Gallardo, be sure to try and do a test drive.
I think if you can persuade them that you're not joking and seriously considering to buy one, you can get a test drive.
And if you're looking for a car to drive on a daily basis or in each case, more often then you drove the diablo, the Gallardo is probably a better choice because steering - clutch - shifting, isn't as heavy as with the diablo.
Whatever you do, good luck with it!!!

I must say....I haven't seen the Gallardo in real life...but the back...really doesn't convince me, I mean, look at the Diablo's ass....it's a perfect sculpture done by one of the finest italian artist...but this one..it's german...somehow seems to be lacking a bit of the Italian passion in it..
But then...a V10...mmm...beautiful...I don't know...if I were you I would let a test drive decide me, and not just a spin around the block, a real one, floor it, take it to the limit a bit on the corners...
As far as trading the diablo or 355 for a gallardo...I would say all 3 of them or just the diablo and 355...
Sleep well jabba

Nice handycam work Jabba. Honestly. If you had a liquid lense it would have looked like something BBC would have shot. No offence, but I think that this is the ugliest lambo ever. Just my honest opinion. Ever since audi took over, Lambo just isnt Lambo anymore. Murcielago, Galrado(sp?), they dont do it for me. They dont have the exotic italian looks anymore. Maybe the engines are still raw lamborghini but not the styling. What can I say, from my point of view lambo lost its edge. But hell, I never drove one so I cant really tell. But when I see a Murc on the street or at the dealership I just dont get the guss bumps that I get from seeing a diablo cruise down the street, with that extremly loud V12.

I dont know how anyone can consider the Gallardo a daily driver, unless you car collection consisted of a Bike and a Mini. M3 on the other hand has been considered one of the best usable daily super-cars of our time. Its popularity speaks for itself. And if thats not enough space, the M5 is a pretty good way to go also. Does the Gallardo have any baggage space at all? It looks really small.

ahhh I travel light these days after becoming a "single" man again... I could get away with a two seater..but it might not be the best car to create the correct business image...if you kinda know what I mean...
tekwar
07-29-2003, 08:24 AM
yeah its not. i think not many people drive these types of car to work unless they are really some celebrity. I have a friend who would drive a regular sedan to work and keep his other cars for the weekends and holidays. He said he doesnt want his workers and other colleagues to get the wrong impression.
1zippo1
07-29-2003, 08:25 AM
A correct business image ... well it depends. I know a man (not well) who owns several computer shops. He has a Ferrari but rarely uses it unless he has to go to meetings and shit like that because that car makes an impression you know. When people see him with his car they think: damn that must be a good business man if he drives such a car.
If you're looking for a good image a jaguar is by most people considered as a "classy" car. But to be honest I don't see you owning a jag... doesn't fit with you. I think a lambo makes a good & cool image at the same time!
About the Gallardo... I really like it and in my oppinion the overtaking of the company by audi is probably a good thing for build quality. And without audi, there probably would never have been a Gallardo because Lamborghini doesn't have the money to devellop so many cars at the same time. The only small setback is the steering wheel ... I think it looks to much like and audi one. The rest of the interior & exterior is just beautifull.
tekwar
07-29-2003, 08:31 AM
with all respect to Jabba, i think that anyone driving a exotic sports car will in most cases give an impression that the person is stuck up, possibly showy, etc. traits that you do not want people to think when your a business man. Even if your the nicest person in the world, it can always give the wrong impression. Its sometimes better to be safe than sorry i suppose.
1zippo1
07-29-2003, 08:41 AM
I think it's better to make a strong impression. A lot of people who are jalous may say: he's just bragging with his money. But in the business world you have to stand out of the crowd. A Lambo or Ferrari will make them notice you, and even if they pretend not to, they will. No one can look past such a car. If you play safe all your life long ... you won't get no were. At least that's my oppinion.
here you can see what I mean with the steering wheel, these are pic's of the audi A8:

how about a Porsche instead of the 328??? would be a nice collection with a Ferrari, Lambo and a Porsche...
i agree with u on that zippo
if sum1 is driving a lambo or a ferrari, people who cant afford them cars will of course think your bragging simply outta jelousy.
at the same time you do make an impression, but to me the sorta impression that you have earned what you have and as jabba has said, his diablo was his "dream" car,he has his dream car now and IMO has the rights to show it off and make whatever impression on people.whether its business or pleasure
nice video aswell jabba and i know this has been said b4,but congrats on achieving your dreams of the diablo.

I seriously doubt that if you drive a BMW over a Ferrari that it would make you any less successful than someone driving the other car. You dont chose a lawyer or doctor by just looking at what they drive, but looking at their history and background. Sure the car they drive could be sign of their success, but then not always. Alot of rich and successful people are modest and will drive nothing more than a BMW and Mercedes. In the end i guess it depends what industry and business your doing. I think we can make a strong two way arguement both ways. Your points are valid as well. At the end of the day, its the person with the money who decides what they want to do with their cash.
Jabba
07-29-2003, 11:01 AM
you are all talking an extreme amount of sense on this subject...however I can quote from personal experience....as I used to run a 355 GTS as my daily driver...
it really comes down to who you want to make the impression on...I found it would really piss my customers off as I was probably "charging" them too much if I could afford a car like that...and could I do them a good deal because I am obvisouly not "short" of money....the same for some staff...if you can afford that car then you can afford to pay me more etc...that is why I have a nice clean perfectly acceptable and appropriate car now for driving to the office...and it never stands out as being over flash or anything...
so for YOUR customers I would say a big NO NO...IMO
however when you are the customer...than I would say a big YES YES...because people take you more seriously it would seem...for instance if I pull into a Ferrari dealership in my bimmer...although the sales staff are not exactly rude...they are not over helpful either....if I arrive in the Diablo...they then have even moved cars for me so that I can park it easier...and I am Immediately offered beverages etc...and "personal" attention...this is especially nice...when its a nice female with big breasts....

very well put jabba, there is no doubt that when you drive a very expensive car to any shop, food place, etc...that you will definitely garner more respect and attention as they know you have money to spend there. Money is power as they say, and a good car is a status symbol of that. I cant count the number of times i have seen what you described above. There was once i went to this bar where they had a Diablo parked outside the entrance, they had barriers errected around it and bouncers around it for good measure, keeping the interested public a safe distance from the car. Not only does this look good for the bar as it shows that they have "respectable" people patronising them, but also it sure attracts the crowd.
Jabba
07-29-2003, 11:25 AM
funny as you should say that...I have had rope barriers put around my Ferrari before at a night club...the embarassing thing was however...when I left there were no staff around to remove the barriers...and also everyone was leaving at the same time....I just wanted to get home...so I started moving the barriers out of the way myself...damn did I get some strange looks..."like that guy has got some balls to be stealing that car kinda thing"....anyway it was a great feeling to be beeping everyone to get the fuck out of the way...as they were all heading down towards the car park

You should be kind to the drivers around you. A ferrari or Lambo flashing or beeping you from behind is a very intimidating thing. Had the experience once when I was in Malaysia driving towards the Sepang track to attend the Formula 1 GP there a few years back. had a 360 behind me on the highway...when i moved, he overtook me and i lost sight of the car before i could even see his license plate let alone the drivers face....dang that thing was fast.

I can just see those people who hand built that car crying at home after the countless hours they put into it being trashed like that. Well i think most people that buy these cars are either too scared to drive fast or are decent enough drivers to push them around on the track. The videoclip was rather funny. A Ferrari driver wanted to impress some people on a public road, did a burnout next to some cars waiting in line. Couldn't keep the car straight and hit one of the other cars. The MF simply drove off.

and even then i would be shit scared to fully accelerate
ppl that can take POWERFUL cars and thrash them (and be in control and do it good) have alot of kudos from me!
they are either bery good, lucky or stupid drivers!

I have heard of that vid, but had never seen it. What a waste of a driver, he should never ever, be allowed to drive any car that has more than 100 bhp as he cannot handle anything more.

hehe, the guy in the F50 was a douchebag! I hope no one got hurt.
I've got another video of soem idiot in a F355 that he rented. He does a burnout in a very packed street and takes off slamming into another. Of course, the dude just takes off! I'd be headhunting at that point. I wouldn't care how big of a piece of crap i was driving, you don't just leave!
I know what Jabba means on making the wrong impression on people you are doing business with. My uncle had a Countach at one point but never ever took it too business meetings. Never drove it to work either.
A friends, mother, owns a packaging design place. So they are very well off, could easily afford a Lamborghini or four. But what does she drive, an Infinity I30. I asked her why and she said it's better for business and it doesn't upset her employees. Which I think is understandable.

well thats easier said than done. When your business relies a lot on what other people think of you, i dont think you brush that aside and just do whatever you want, unless you want to risk losing profits. Even if your friends know that your a nice guy and all, they are unlikely going to make money for you.
ohh TT i dont think that link works, it just redirects back to the main page :P

Yeah. It all comes down to styles. Styles make fights (boxing term), they also make companies. I know some successful people that drive round in their high-end mercs and Ferraris (no lambos  ). I had a friend whos father (a neurosurgen) wanted a Porsche, but feared it would hurt his professional reputation, so he got a couple of new Saabs. I personally think it comes down to what industry you are in. For instance; in Finance and Investment banking there are plenty of traders driving Ferraris. It is a culture in its self. But in the medical field being flashy is frowned upon.
Summary: Rant rant rant... I dont think "one size fits all". Depends on your industry, clients and role in your organization.

yeah its an "undercover" car. also a RS6 is very tempting.
jon_s
07-30-2003, 11:28 AM
RS6 is a car that you can kind of get away with. There is also that aftermarket tuning package for it (see current EVO mag).
Saab's being boring?? Well, yes and no. We have a 9-5Aero Estate, tuned by hirsch. (http://www.hirsch-performance.ch/index_e.htm) It develops 305bhp. But it is all going through the front wheels, so give it a corner to fight with, and there is no chance. However, on the motorway it is a different story. It is one of the most comfortable cars I have ever been in. IMO, more so than the 5-series and E-Class (old shape-have not driven new shape) The 5 series is a better car, no doubts about that. Anyway, the only point that I am trying to make is......not everyone knows what an Aero can do (in a straight line!) especially not a tuned one. Which is why my Dad loves it. In general it is the fastest thing on the motorway........with obvious exceptions, but then if you drive an Aero you know what is faster.
humm, I have forgotten what I am trying to point out. I do agree compared to an M3 it is boring, but then there are not many cars that are exciting compared. I think what the 'Saab' says is.......I do my job well, with minimum fuss. I am aware of my capabilities but don't feel the need to demonstrate them all the time. It is for that reason why my dad drives a 9-5 Aero (ESTATE!!).
As for me, at the moment, despite my age, I would drive an Audi S3 out of choice, I might be tempted to tune it, but I would not touch the outside. But then I am just starting my life in Company Law, I cannot be seen to be too brash if you know what I mean.

saabs arent very popular here in Melbourne, i seldom see them around, and those i have seen, arent really exciting, from the looks at least. In all truthness, i know very little about the company and their cars. My judgement on them has been basically solely on astetics alone.
for me right now, i dont really care much about performance oriented cars, as i dont have the money to allow for that luxury. I just drive something practical that can take me around, carry my luggage...take my friends out for drink, and thats about it. And if you have ever been to Melbourne, its really quite pointless to have a high performance vehicle...there isnt any room here to actually push the vehicle, unless you plan to go into the outbacks. But i nevertheless still enjoy these cars , i marvel at their designs, their mechanics, and everything that comes with building these "exotics"...they are like art to me i suppose.

@jon_s...whats the tuning package offered for the RS6 you mentioned in EVO. i dont get EVO here unless i go to a large newstand. what are the hp figures, etc.?
Try to search for Sportec on the net: it's a Swiss tuner with some great offers for various Audis.. I love their alloy wheels!
Here is a small pic for a start: http://www.audirs6.ch/tuning/bilder/sportec_rs6_avant_1.jpg
And the specs ;)
http://www.sportec.ch/upload/artimg/BCY_s1.jpg
550 hp and 635 Nm
Not cheap anyway.. you'll have to add another 23'000+ USD to the basic price for an RS6...

yeh its all very sad indeed....who knows what happend to the people involved in the accidents ???
don't need to worry, it says that nobody got hurt in this, Sorry to be late on that but i'm quite new and I just downloaded it, I've two remarks:
1) I found this is quite a mess but I wanted more :D ... so I went to the url marked on the bottom of this video... well people don't go there. this a SICK web site :!:
2) I think it's not the drivers fault, I really think it's a mechanical accident, just like the ayrton senna one, just look at the video: the driver as turned the steering weel as far as he can to the right, but at the end of the video (the external replay) we see the weel didn't turn, so he can be happy it didn't did that a 200mph!!

Woof...the closest I've gotten to something like that was when my dad got me us a tour of the Lamborghini, Maserati and Ferrari factories in 1997...that was pretty badass...but we couldn't take any pics because that was during the time when Audi was starting to take over and Lamborghini was really revamping its facilities and manufacturing processes...we did get some pretty cool stuff though...next time I'm home I'll see if I can take some pictures...the "year in pictures" that they gave us was pretty sweet.

I'm a Ford die-hard fan, and I've seen and heard the GT on the road near where I live (the Blue and White prototype vehicle that's being tested in all the magazines was being run around my neck of the woods)...it looks and sounds incredible...but from what I've seen it's intended to be as good as the 360M on a track, but is a more comfort-biased car...so it's not quite as lively and adjustable. I like the looks a lot better personally, but that's a matter of personal taste hehe.

didnt you get upset recently about someone putting a V8 into a Porsche? now you call them boring, thats what the V8 was for, to make it different and livlier.
In evo #61 they test the GT against the Modena and surprisingly, Mr Brovington put the GT ahead.. 5 starts against 4 and 1/2 for the 360... the GT beeing more funny to drive and more easily driven on the limit..

wait, so your saying that i cant just sit on an engine and go? so thats what ive been doin wrong LOL
i just thought it was kind of funny how upset you got over that engine swap and defended the honor of Dr. Porsche, but now you call his work boring and cold. i agree with you on that part tho, i do like Porsches but i also think they are a little cold and plain. ive had nothing but good experiances with Porsches, but when compared to Ferrari or Lambo, they are a little utilitarian in design.

Don't let Tiff stop you from test driving one. After all, he is a racing car driver and obviously likes cars best when they're as uncompromising as they can be. I think the Gallardo could turn out to be great fun on the road. If not, you have to wait till the rwd street version of the Gallardo competition car gets built. I hope Lambo will do that. Complemented with a street version of the Murcielago R-GT they would have the perfect range of cars IMO.
I have just read this thread for the first time and it surprised me how many people here know so little about Lamborghini.
No scissor doors (not gullwing BTW) strange for a Lamborghini?! Only if the Countach and Diablo were the entire history of the marque. Which they're not.
A smaller Lamborghini just Audi's idea?! No way, the project was started long before Audi took over. Take a look at the L140. The V10 engine has been ready for years too. Besides, has no one ever heard of the Urraco/Silhouette/Jalpa range?
Most Lambos had incomprehensible names for non Italians. That's why Lambo needs to continue with that. Screw everyone that doesn't understand it or has trouble pronouncing it. I never heard anyone complain about the name Countach, but now it seems Murcielago and Gallardo are suddenly too difficult! For which, astoundingly, Audi is blamed too. LOL!
