Drive north of Chicago: any suggestions?

Hi mates
In a few weeks I'll be driving north of Chicago to Green Bay, WI. I have one full day available.
Don't know this region and wonder if any of you could suggest any nice road, good place for sightseeing or just interesting places to visit on my way to the Packers city.
I guess the lakeside should have plenty of interesting sites to visit, but I have no clue.

PM T-bird, he lives in that area. I can tell you about the Michigan side of things; but I'm really not too familiar with Wisconsin.
