There was a pothole like that on I94 east bound by the metal recycling plant for a long time. Except, instead of being a big dip, it was about 4 ft. in diameter, and 18" deep... not even a semi-gradual decent. I hit it once going about 80 mph; and was lucky not to lose control (It was gradually getting larger and larger one winter, and I was making regular trips to the Metro Airport... so it caught me out one day). Luckily, I had some swampers on that absorbed most of the blow. There were other cars with wheels gone because of that one.

Detroit didn't end up fixing it until they repaved the freeway for the Superbowl.

Yes, I used to travel to Detroit regularly, and it made Montreal look good ;-).

Yeah, Detroit is rough. Hard to believe what can happen in one generation to a once beautiful city.

That said... it's not just Detroit's roads that are bad; but all of Michigan's metro, and suburban roads. I once read that not only does Michigan have the highest GVW for trucks in the nation; but also the thinnest freeways of any northern state... thus necessitating frequent resurfacing (weather or not that happens). I also read that one of the major resurfacing companies has a no bid 300 year contract with the state.

~Are Montreal's roads notoriously bad as well?

one of the cars that stopped after looks like it has a bent roof after hitting that.

Montreal used to be famous for potholes like NYC. Then, there was the period when the overpasses were collapsing :ohmy:.
