^x2 The second set of tire marks clearly bite deeper into the snow.

going up hill in snow four wheel drive will provide better traction ... that is one condition where it will make more of a difference than just winter tires, especially full time four wheel drive with differential locks

But put those same summer tires on the Quattro and it's gonna struggle too ;)

Tire maybe but the 4x4 configuration of the Audi must have helped as well.

Audi don't have differential locks. Not side to side, not front to rear.

It would only help to the point where traction breaks in two wheels. If you have proper winter tires, going up the driveway....I don't think it will help much. Jamming the throttle at a stop light would definitely help.

I agree with you, but the Audi is a heavier car I bet

You can do that in a Quattro (with snow tires ... ;) ):
Audi Quattro Skijump - YouTube

But yes you are right snow tires are better than summer tires in the snow.

In the picture above difficult to draw a conclusion. The Audi could be FR or could be using new or snow tires ... or the driver of the other car is just an ass.
