August 20th 2009 - Peterborough sportscar manufacturer Radical Sportscars has smashed the Nürburgring production car lap record, with driver Michael Vergers posting a committed 6m48s lap time. The road-legal SR8LM smashed the previous record, also held by Radical since 2005, by an incredible eight seconds. All this, less than 24 hours after the car was driven from England to Germany for the record.
[...]
“We’ve proved that the SR8LM is not only the world’s best trackday car, but it’s also practical enough to drive to and from the circuit."
Where did they store the suitcase for the two day test? ;-)

IMO even if the they were faster than the Gumpert it doesn't have the same impact.
For reference the absolute record is 6:11.13 by Stefan Bellof in 1984 during practive behind the wheel of a Porsche 956.

The Radical is barely a road car.

Street legal by Brittish standards... but definitely not "production" legal...

So even before this the Radical had the Gumpert beat by 15 seconds. I'm not sure who would actually want to drive a Radical on the street, but it's pretty cool that one can do that in the UK.

If the weather is fine, I definately wouldn't mind driving one on the street... and neither would this guy:

It's all great until you find a nasty speed bump or a steep entrance to something. Not saying it wouldn't be heaps of fun though.

It's really a moot point driving these things on the street. Unless you hate your butt, or you used all your money to buy that car with nothing left for a normal one.

By British standards? less people per head die on our roads matey, and we have something called 'corners' where the road curves around a 'bend'

Less people per head have their own cars there. :)

Corners are something we also do well :)

Our car insurance costs are heaps below yours for a reason...

Of course, this can go back and forth with no end, so OK ;) :P
