Hate to burst your bubble, but that's not called an Aurora, it's an iteration of the SR71 Blackbird which was phased out of service in the 1990's (91 if memory serves).

You're right Vansquish,

suppose that's the Blackbird which was conducting experiments for NASA

now this is the "aurora"

(taken from the net)..."The aurora, quite possibly what is being built in the Skunkworks currently, is the US military's newest addition to it's arsenal of spy aircraft. Rumors state that the jet can cruise at speeds up to mach 12. Some people believe that when the aurora passed over San Francisco in 1989, it triggered off the fault and caused an earthquake."

I read that this plane is/was being tested at AREA 51 which is 140 miles from Las Vegas.

what looks like a real image ? ...

Im pretty sure that sr-71 was used as a trainer. Also its not the fastes airplane that honor goes to the x-15. This is one of my personal fav planes \/

ur right. The X-15 is the fastest i did the post in a rush so i wasn't carefull enough. anyway ive read the it reached Mach 5.35

X-15 fastest plane :?: :?:
Depends on one's definition of a plane I guess
In my book a plane should be able to take off from the runway on its own power. And as far as I know the X15 was launched from a B52 :fadein:

I say if it uses wings for lift its a plane. Also it reached mach 6.72. Which doesnt actually make it the fastest. Only the fastest inside the atmosphere. The shuttle does over 17000 mph. None the less its all symantics.

The X-15 is the fastest airplane that was rocket powered, and it was not operational, it was only experimental hence 'X'. The SR-71 is the fastest air-breathing jet in the world, and to me is more impressive than the X-15. The X-15 needed a B-52 to fly it up to 50,000ft where it could be launched; it was unable to take off on its own, and it had skids for landing gear. It couldn't carry any payload, and was heavily damaged by heat after its run to ~mach 6. It is still an impressive airplane, mach 6 and 217,000ft...

man are you sure you dont have an X-15 in your garage? :)

anyway guys im not gonna edit the post again.

the x-15 is sort of a rocket i think, not really a proper plane since it cant take off and land. The shuttle on the other hand surely cant be compared with the military planes in the pics.

A very nice painting. The A-10 is my favorite jet, even though it is ugly. But, it is so good at what it does. It was suppose to be retired by now, but the air force didn't want to get rid of it.

That last one isnt the su-37. not sure what it is. but search kazaa or whatever for su-37, it it should return a sweet video showing its super maneuverability. I have the video but know where to host it.

B-2 bomber... this is the bomber equivilant of the commonly known stealth fighter the F-117.

i dont know where you got all this info but the b-2 and the f-117 are 2 different aircrafts, very very differnt, the b-2 is all curves where the f117 has no curves at all the b-2 is a flying wing.

here is a f-117

the aircraft is actually called Sukhoi S-37 BERKUT "Golden Eagle".
. the forward design of the wings resembles the really old russian fighter the tupolev backfire.

Here is some info on the S-37:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
History: The S-37 is an experimental fighter technology demonstrator built to validate and gain experience with various technology advances (particularly the forward swept wings) which could be incorporated into a fifth generation Sukhoi fighter.

The S-37 was initially known as the S-32 and initial reports of the program's existence surfaced in early 1996 when it appeared the aircraft was intended to be a fifth generation fighter, rather than a technology demonstrator.

The S-32 first flew on September 25 1997 (two weeks after the F-22's first flight), with greater details and photographs made public shortly after. The most obvious feature of the new Sukhoi is its forward swept wing, which is made of composite materials to give the necessary structural strength. Benefits of forward sweep include improved maneuverability at subsonic speeds, enhanced controllability at high angles of attack, reduced takeoff and landing rolls (also resulting in improved range) and a reduced forward hemisphere radar signature (the S-37 may also be fitted with radar absorbent material).

what ?
The B-2 might not be the exact same thing as the f-117. What i MEANT :x by equivilant is that they are both STEALTH STYLE AIRCAFT that play different roles in the airforce. One is a bomber while the other is a fighter.

...BTW this board is not meant for expert aeroplane nuts. The point of the comments is to give the average person a rough idea of what the aircraft is about. It 's cool to correct large mistakes like the Su-37 picture but u dont have to be such a smart mouth about tiny details such as CURVES.
thanks

uhhh if you think that the f-117 is a fighter think again champ, the f-117 has no guns or defenses. both are stealth bombers with no air to air weapons.

you both right it is in no way a bomber but the air force designated it "f" for fighter. Only some dumbass general knows why.

EDIT: Where it says bomber it should say fighter my bad.

HAHAHAHA !!
ok
one is huge, one is quite small. Can't argue with that now can you porsche?

anyway forget it. As long as the pictures look nice everyone is happy. No need for pointless arguing.
Besides neither of us has been in the F-117 so we don't really know its real role. Maybe the airforce WANTS u to believe its a bomber when it actually has other SECRET missions and roles.
If u think about it even a bomber is a fighter, since it FIGHTS the
enemy by attacking with dropped bombs  so technically you could be wrong...

My buddies dad used to fly the A-10 and before that the F-4 "Wild Weasal" recon jet. Both are cool in their own right but that A-10 is freaking amazing. The 30mm cannon on that thing shakes the whole plane when fired!

Great fighters. Very nice indeed. I wish I could own one of those and fly them.
