Although I should imagine if the car was an auto in park then towing it would have trashed the transmission - right?

Yea, I don't know what was up with that. That tow truck driver was about to make a terrible mistake. The lady should charge him those fees given what he was about to do. Then again, it might have been (read probably was) staged for the sake of humor. I just find the image quite amusing.
