VW Group is finally achieving synergies between Audi and Lamborghini.

At the Detroit Motor Show next month, Audi will debut the R8 V10, the fastest production R8 yet. The R8 V10 will come with a 5.2 liter V10 engine producing 528 hp, the same as in the Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4. This power plant has also previously appeared in the R8 LMS GT3 racer.

Unique to the R8 V10 are the LED headlights for the main and dipped beams, a first, and daytime running lights. A new rear diffuser creating more down force is also special to this model and twin oval tailpipes tag the rear of the V10, as opposed to the quad chrome exhaust of the V8 version.

The V10 also features magnetic ride dampers and comes with a choice of a six-speed manual or an R tronic semi-automatic gearbox.

The numbers: 0 to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds and a top speed of 196 mph or 315 km/h.

On the inside you get a Bang and Olufsen system, which, for the average reader, costs about as much as your current car is worth. There's a Nappa leather finish too.

The R8 V10 will cost 121,800 pounds in the UK (140,800 euros).http://img.worldcarfans.com/2008/12/large/audi-r8-v10_1.jpg

The numbers sound very impressive! I wonder how much it weighs though? I'm not sure this news will be good for the Gallardo though...

Visually, I'm not too impressed. Heck I'm disappointed it doesn't look aggressive at all or anything like that concept they came up with sometime back

why not give it the turbo engine from the RS6?

That caused fires in the engine bay.

Now that I look back on it. I unknowingly predicted that it will have the Gallardo V10.

I like it, not overdone like the R8 V12 TDI concept car, yet more appealing than the V8 model...I just don't like those rims, but thats could be changed.

Plenty of competitors in £100,000+ coupé market.

Aston Martin DB9
Mercedes-Benz SL63/65 AMG
Porsche 911 GT2
Ferrari F430
Lamborghini Gallardo

And couple of used supercars I can think of.

Lamborghini Diablo
Ferrari 550
Ferrari 360 Challenge Stradale
Aston Martin V8 Vantage/Virage
Ford GT

sweet i'm really glad they did it in the end :)

the changes aren't really that big, i thought they could have done a better job than simply thinning out the grille and making different rims ...

i hope this car will be able to kick some ass :D

Funny how every one of the euro's are now using the Corvette shocks ;)

Although not the leaf spring suspension. I hear that the ZR1 has a superb ride quality unlike the boneshaker that is the Z06

I dont who you have spoken to (other than listening the Clarkson the Idiot) but the Z06 is not a bone shaking ride - it is a firm sprts suspension nto unlike pretty much any other sports car on the market. And the fact that the transverse fibreglass spring combined with non-adjustable shocks can deliver a 7:42 Northloop lap would be all the proof you need that there is is nothing inherently bad about a completely independant 4 wheel suspension with double wishbones front and rear - especially since just the addition of the real time adjustable damping suddenly has everyone worshipping the very same setup.

Isnt it an irony that all that pent up anti-US sports car rhetoric about the "leaf spring this and leaf spring that" resulted in one of the fastest laptimes ever recorded around the Northloop for a factory production car ;)

Now we know why the euro car makers are falling all over themsleves to install licensed copies of the Corvette shocks. What's next??? Are they going to lighten their suspension designs and body structures further by incorporating transverse leaf springs?
