Volkswagen was briefly the most valuable company in the world with $1,256 per share on tuesday after it was revealed that Porsche's continous purchase of Volkswagen options left only 6% of the company available for trade. That led investors to scramble for as many pieces of VW as they can get. VW's value went down, though, after Porsche announced that it was going to sell some of its options, but none of its 42.6% VW common stock.

I know these two have designed cars together before, but this is completely different!

I wish Porsche would get its dirty hands off of Volkswagen. By the way, I believe VW is currently the world's largest automaker in terms of sales this year. Porsche would be getting quite a deal. I wanted to buy vw stock to hold just for the sake of preventing Porsche from buying it, but it's just too expensive.

Duh!

Porsche and VAG have always been inextricably linked.

Isn't this a dream?

Small niche car maker Porsche has so much success as they wish to influence normal cars too, rather than further dilute the brand ;)

And stifle any chance of Audi's advancement. Probably. Like that stupid row with Audi not being able to use the letters "RS" or "S" as a suffix.

Volkswagen was born out of Porsche. Ferdinand Porsche to be precise.

They've become something else entirely since their inception. And I'd hate to see Porsche meddle with VW affairs since VAG's been on the roll lately.

I know, and I wish Porsche would get their dirty hands off already. The latest attempt at majority ownership sickens me. I don't want to see Porsche stealing VW/Audi technology. Notice that Porsche is just now finally getting direct injection not only in their road cars, but their race cars as well. They're not always on the cutting edge, so they'd have lots to gain with access to Audi goodies.

They already own a majority of VAG stock. Porsche isn't stealing anything. They're BUYING it. Live with it.

It's disgusting enough watching Porsche advertise direct injection as if they were breaking new ground and pushing the limit. What they'll do to advertise and hype any VW systems as their own innovatoin will be even worse. At any rate, Porsche's getting quite a deal/steal getting a hold of the world's new largest automaker like that.

It's called the free market, mate! To be frank, it's not like Porsche will stop producing sports cars and cars of VAG makes will instantly dumb down in technology. The main impact will be financial.

It's not a "free market" if there is illegal in-sider trading in order to manipulate the market value of shares - a real possibility considering Porsches funds acivities and movements.

Porsche is frightening when it comes to market manipulation.

"Some commentators are now wondering whether Porsche's principal activity is as a carmaker or as a hedge fund itself," said Tim Urquhart, an analyst at IHS Global Insight in London.

He noted Porsche's 2007 results revealed it made some 3.6 billion euros in options trading compared with about 1 billion euros from building 911s and Cayennes for well-heeled car buyers.
