Hmm... I'm not sure about this one. Appears that Audi are trying to create a larger performance distance between its "s" brand and its "RS" brand.

Still would be refined and fun to drive, I would imagine!

I would definitely prefer the V8 version. It felt like a downgrade.

^It is less powerful, but it gets more torque. Couple that with a faster gearbox and weight saving = quicker car and lot miles per gallon. It's not like V8 S4s have a huge following anyway. :-P

If the new DSG gearbox is faster than the manual 0.3 seconds, then the new engine really gains no advantage over the old one. In a hot summer day with A/C probably will be even slower.

Well, yes. Except the claimed increase in fuel efficiency. That's the point of the new car. And hence the thread title. ;-)

I guess. I hope this is not just a number game tho, but real life fuel efficiency. Can we put any value on the great sound from the V8 :-D

I have a feeling that it'll be just as fast or faster than the outgoing RS4...the new 3.2 A4 is faster around a track than the outgoing S4, and finally not having an engine that's completely over the front wheels will make a huge difference (it's still over the front wheels but not nearly as bad). And for sound, no one ever complained about the sound from a B5 S4 did they? ;-)

You really think the supercharger hardware weight nothing huh. Audi so far only state it will be lighter than the on going V8, but by how much is still unknown....

No one complained the sound of the B5 S4, but everyone compliments the sound of the B6 S4 ;)

The problem with the 4.2 in the S4 is despite being a v8 it had noooooo torque, and for a a car weighing 3800+ lbs. that doesn't help much. Of course the supercharger adds weight, what i don't know is what the block is made up of. If it's aluminum than it should be worth the liter decrease. And duh, the B6 S4 Avant in Nagaro Blue was a beautiful car in my eyes and still is, but i welcome the this new trend especially when mileage is such a downer for the current S4. 13mpg in the city are not what i want to deal with, and mid to low 20s on the highway, thats scary.

^Yeah, I don't know how the current V8 is so god damn thirsty (compared to other similarly sized V8s)

When are the ricer LED tail lights going to be out of style?

And the LED headlights are as whored-out as Altezza lights already.

HaHA, German FTL. Just when you have a firm handle on all the abbreviation and technical wizardry names, they decide that a previous moniker no longer applies.

Gearing...I really wish Audi would take a lesson from the Americans and put a tall a$$ 6th gear so it actually could get decent gas mileage. Zee Germans have someting to lern!!

"mechanical turbocharging" according to Audi. You can read more here;

So a turbo is just a "expelled gas supercharger"?
