View Full Version : Server Downtime / Database Errors Tonight

Regarding the server downtime in the last hour or so, and then database errors on most pages once it came back to life:
There was a power / network failure at the datacenter, which caused the server to reboot unexpectedly.. this also corrupted the forum database and perhaps other parts of it too (TBH it was hard to tell when most pages were broken)
I then disabled web access to the site (you would have recieved a 403 / permission denied error if you tried to access the site during this time) to block everyone hammering trying to load pages so that I could run the repair function on the database - now everything seems to be ok, but if you come across any odd errors please report them here

Update:
it seems the DNS service on the server crashed too after the original problem and for some reason didn't restart properly when I restarted the main services..
I didn't notice earlier as I still had DNS cached locally on my system so all appeared ok. Went to sleep, and when I woke the site was down.. problem is obviously now resolved

Can I go to sleep now then? I have been hitting "Refresh" for close to 7 hours now.. and finally the page loaded.

hopefully the final update:
downtime in the last hour or so was due to gallery part of the database becoming corrupt and causing the DB to crash.. I've now replaced the corrupt tables with the ones from yesterdays backup, so one or 2 photos might have gone walkies, but otherwise it seems ok now
*fingers crossed, as the server seems determined to give me grief today*
