But the S weighs much more so it is more powerful.

from looking at the ticket, the benz really hooks up the 1st few hundred feet. then the turbo boost hits the supra and it catches up afterwards. they're pulln hi 11's, that's majorly fast, I'm guessing that's 500 bhp and up.

The Reaction time of the Benz is very good....for both runs

The Benz is putting out about 550HP with a little over 600 lb-ft of torque. Not a huge increase over the stock numbers of 493/590, but this car is also running on drag slicks. From what I've heard abotu the S600, you don't even have to power brake it to get the best launch. The V-12 has such a wide powerband that just a simple stomp and go will produce the best times. That might explain some of the reaction time. Car & Driver did a story on this same car last year. Check it out here: http://www.renntechmercedes.com/C%26DS600.pdf

Also, it seems that C&D did a test of a "stock" S600 in the March '04 issue and managed to get a 0-60 time of 3.6s and a 1/4 mile run of 11.6 @ 120. Not sure I believe that, what with this car doing about the same with 50 more HP and drag slicks. Something's got to be up. There are lighter, more powerful cars that don't even achieve those numbers. Sure, the S600 has more torque than most of them, but 1500-2000lbs. is a lot to compensate for. The S600 does weigh about 4600lbs after all.

Thats Supra's trap was 127mph. Thats a 10 sec mph if he could just get it to hook up at the line. The supra would kill that Mercedes if they were both on street tires, of if they were both on slicks. Gotta make the fight fair!!

S600 is a twin-turbo V-12. The turbos put out about 14.5psi stock. The English translation of kompressor is compressor, so yeah, I guess the S600 does use a kompressor, but I'm thinking you were thinking of a supercharger since all the other kompressor cars use them. So, yes and no. Kompressor is just Merc's way of stating that the car has forced induction.

eh? i've always understood that kompressor = supercharger. The only mercedes cars i've seen with turbo's (in stock form, from the factory) are the CDI models, running turbo diesel engines. Supercharging is a form of forced induction, true, but I highly doubt that the S600 came with factory twin-turbos..

That supra would have a much easier time winning if his reactions werent so slow.

Check again. Here's a quote direct from the Mercedes Benz website:

"MSRP $126,970.00*
Engine Twin turbocharged 5.5L 36-valve V-12 engine
Net Power 493 hp @ 5,000 rpm
Net Torque 590 lb-ft @ 1,800 - 3,500 rpm"

http://www.mbusa.com/brand/models/SL600R.jsp

Same engine as the Maybach, S600, CL600, and CL65 though the CL65 engine is larger, more powerful and has other changes as well and the Maybach's is more powerful also.

True, but I think the more extraordinary part of this vid is the fact that the SL600 weighing more than 2 tons is runing an 11s 1/4 mile.

Yeah, that's Treynor's Benz. All it has is a Renntech chip. I don't think he was using drag slicks...I think they were OEM tires. It's pretty amazing when you think about the times that thing is ripping off and the fact that it's bankvault heavy too. This new wave of power saloons is getting out of hand...
