does anybody know what the skidpad for this vehicle is. its also faster then a z06 despite what the published numbers say. redline is higher, torque curve is longer.
on a second thought, it would be really funny to put the black widdow [350 cid about 550hp*] in a fiat (any of them)... im not sure if the tires would go up in a ball of smoke and flame, or if the frame would twist?

The ZR-1 was a very very cool car, but so is the ZO6. But I would much rather have the Callaway Sledgehammer! 800 very streetable HP. top speed of 254 mph, and it is quick too! Plus it handels well and gives a nice ride!

z06 is great, dont get me wrong cause i love the car (and perfer its exterior styling). but the zr1 has the engine, and top end the stock z06 doesnt. but as always, its always a battle for looks/straight/lateral accelleration :) the Sledgehammer is awsome, check out the linginfelter TT vette done back in 2000 i believe 0-60 in an unbelievable 1.97 seconds, and as you say, very streetable

And you forgot a 0-60 in 2.9sec. Holy carap that was a fast car. But 400K?!?!?! No thanks.

I like it a lot too, lot of caracter, THE engine (elaborated by Lotus) and a great look.

I agree with nthfinity, the LT5 was a kickass motor. You can pick up that lingenfelter package at much less than 400k, so in the supercar arena, im gonna go with ligenfelter. Check out his website, its kickass.

Lotus designed, and Mercury Marine built.

It's only a matter of time before someone drops a tweaked dohc caddy XLR motor into the C6. :)

Why would any one do a dumb ass thing like that? The new engine aleady makes 400hp. That is the last thing I see any one doing. Why would you downgrade? Oh I get, because it is pushrod and does not have 4 valves per cylinder

Edit: Sweet car BTW :D

The only thing that really did the ZR1 was that it looked too much like an ordinary 'Vette. Which in my opinion, was a good thing ( sucker someone approaching at a stoplight, for instance) If you looked at the car from the rear, though, those rear flared fenders with the ultra-wide tires really stuck out, so to speak, even more so in a yellow ZR-1. And yes, the ZR-1 engine was engineered by Lotus and built by Mercury Marine , because of their expertise in building aluminum engines. I also remember the problems that customers had with their engines, and the only way that these engines could be serviced was by shipping them back to Mercury for repairs. Imagine the anger that these customers must have experienced after they have learned that their local dealership had mechanics that were not experienced in these sort of engines!

I like the 1971 454 corvettes with 425 horsepower. The options either the ZR1 or ZR2 packages, basically for track racing. Two of the rarest options that year. In Mulsanne Blue.

i prefer the styling of the Z06 to the ZR-1, but the ZR-1 is a pretty wicked little package. i never liked the look of any of the C4 cars, but the sleeper potential is very high.

well. i don't know about the best, but the best of its time, most definitely. the engine was a masterpiece. we're talking about 4 cams. very advanced for its time. the only problem would be finding someone certified to work on it, lol :D

its a nice car but its not all that

I saw one get beat in the 1/4 mile by a civic @ the CAlifornia speedway

shady view from the stands, eh?
if a ZR-1 was beat at the 1/4th by a civic, the civic was likely to have more invested in it then the total cost of the ZR-1, which is currently the most expensive vette when it was new. also, im guessing the vette driver was doing shitty, and may have been shitty himself :)
which would you rather own for the porpose of going fast... im quite sure that civic you saw was not an everyday machine, whilst the zr1 can handle it, just not much space for extras

The 95 ZR-1 stock will turn .90g on the pad. It's a great car, but you can get sooo much more for the money. New, those cars cost over $70,000 back in 1995. It was more of a milestone or important car than it was a great car.

I love the ZR-1...but DAMN was that an expensive car. It was almost $70,000 in 1995(?) when they discontinued it, when a Supra cost $50,000 and a 911 Carrera cost about $60,000. But, man, oh man, talk about an engine...wonderful car.

If offered either car, I would take the ZR-1 over the Z06 just because its so understated for its performance, and I like the ZR-1's looks over the Z06. However, if it was my money, definitely Z06, easier to mod, and work on.

I'd take the Zr1 for styling and power, the LS1 based engines don't have enough torque feeling for my taste.

Not offended at all.

But to say "engine 1" feels better than "engine 2" when you drove 2 different CARS - not 2 similar cars with different engines... you are commenting on the feel of the car - the entire package - NOT the engines..

Nice try though... ;)

But the two cars were similiar I'm not talking about the LS6 since I havn't driven one of those, but I drove an SS, and Z28, 02/97 and the LT1 felt like it pulled harder. Both Camaros, both standards. I did dive a base model Vette and it felt a bit better but not by much (auto though).

So you are comparing a 1997 LT1 SS and a 1998 LS1 Z28? Or a 97 Z28 vs a 98 SS?

Both auto or M6?

Well - big brakes and an endurance tank make the car a "factpory racer" - but I have yet to develop and real "love" for the mid-year Vettes shape... I like em... just not love em.. :P

I really like the early C3's - my favourite being the '69 - maybe one day the mid-years will grow on me... ;)

ive driven a M6 2000 camero Z28, and a 96 M6 T/A .... the LS1 definately felt faster, and more broad a torque curve... both chassis have similar wights, and weight ratios. but i guess thats just my opinoin lol. ill take the LS1 over the LT1 any day.

i agree the C4 styling is a bit aged compared with the C5. the ZR-1 handling charactaristics can be modified to go from extream to z06- like, but there is just no comparing the motors by perfromance numbers alone. just the price tag

And the 97 is completely stock? You drove them back to back or 5 years apart?

These all make a difference on how your "seat of the pants meter" perceives the ride.

i think it was a Chevy tuner magazine back when they got ahold of it in 2002... i dont own the magazine, but my roommate who is the local GM enthusiast has said that to me. i know its trap times are quite segnificantly faster then the Z28's with only 15 more hp, and 10 more ft. lbs. i suppose it could be due to a better torque curve, but i dont know.

its more heresay at this point. ive never been in an SS... im just able to compare the 'normal' v8's

Its pretty common knowledge on LS1 forums that the LS1 in the fbody is pretty much the exact same as it is in the vette, people have had their SS's hit from 300-320 RWHP on stock components. I imagine it looses some HP to the non dual exhaust on the fbody, but other than that I think its pretty much the exact same.

The actual cars were different, the SS had the SLP centermount cat back exhaust/ram air intake, and the Z28 had cold air induction and borla cat back.

Granted the SS feels fast, but it just didn't put me in the seats like the Z28 did.

Nocturn

Well the fbody's exhaust merges into a single pipe after the manifolds, then splits at the muffler.

Well the 02 was a dealer, and the 97 was my brothers car. 02 had about 700 miles on it, with the SLP parts. Ram air hood and cat back, where the 97 had what we put on it. Seems a reasonable comparison to me, the 97 may have had a bit more off the line, but the 02 would of had more come higher speeds with the RA set-up.

Well I figure it beats a whole topic about something thats easily discussed in a current one. I like all cars not just beefy V8's and sports cars. I am yet to drive a GTO which supposedly has more ass in the seat feel than the ol fbody does, but as I said I am yet to drive one. It's all just a matter of perception and opinion. Nothing to start name calling over.

The LT1 is not my choice of engine had I any to choose from, but between the LT and LS1's I choose the LT1.

I originally only had this topic in one thread, but it was spread by other people bringing it up in other threads.
