Hi, i would like to know what makes for all off you out there, a car especial.
I'm not refering just to supercars, but to all cars.
If you like Mini's why and what makes them special.
And the same applies to VW Carocha's, Citroen CV2,
classic cars, your own car, etc??
Richard Hammond said that if he had a choice of buying a Impreza or a Evo, he you choose the Impreza, but didn't know why.
so, What makes a car special in your opinion???

It is a feeling, everybody has his own taste (design, performance, brand, history etc.). I can't explain why, they should make a study of it.

Humm a complex question. I might have to break this down:
There are a lot of reasons why a car is special;
In terms of a supercar, buying into racing history may play a large role. However some Ferrari's (for example) are better than others. So what makes a special Ferrari? A combination, the sound! The way one feels connected to the car. Lots of things. The balance of a 355 is stunning.
Performance car, such as the Corvette. This car is a legend. In fact, some people will agrue (and they do have some strong arguments) that this should be up with the supercars, but I will look at it here. The Corvette provides an unbeatable package, in terms of value for money and performance. I don't use the term legend lightly either. Many a person dreams about this car! But what makes it special?? It does have a history too, it also holds a lot of potential in terms of aftermarket modification. IMO it is far more appropriate to see a modded Vette than a modded 355 e.t.c It has that under dog quality too it.
What about the RS6?? It does so many things better than many leading cars in other areas! i.e outperforms most estates (AMG excluded), as well as devistating a few sports cars along the way. It can also act like a GT car, sitting on the motorway, eating the miles! That makes it a special car IMO.
The mini! Simply history and handling. That car has a heart and soul.
Thoes are some thoughts on what makes a car special.

Thats why I bought my Corvette. It's an American Icon and a Legend in automotive history. I saw one when I was 8 and swore from that day onward that I would have one some day. Now that I do I'd have to say that it's the best investment that I've ever made next to my fiance. The same car can mean so many different things to so many different people. The combination of flat out speed and handling capability makes it nearly unbeatable by any car in the world for the same price. Coupled with it's Legendary American Stature, the Corvette will always be on the top of my list of great cars.

I bought my Lincoln LS because something about the exterior called to me. It seemed to invite me into the cockpit. And then it massaged me with its green-tint gauges in place of Lincoln's usual hideousness. And the seats snuggled me to death. It felt like I was the organic compenent of a machine. And it is American which means it was cheap, and will be easy to service. It was the first car I ever fell in love with.

A car is special to you when it hits a nerve the first time you see it and continues to do so in every time you see it and/or drive it.
Can't be explained in bits and bytes but you know it the moment you set eyes on one :fadein:

My family owns 2 nissan pathfinder, which are not exacly the performance cars you guys have in mind. But they are special to us since my father crashed into the guardrail at 50 mph in his 02 pathfinder, the can was pretty fucked up but he was intact, not even a single scratch; I used to drive 300 mile back and forth every weekend to see my girl, lots of good memories...I guess it is the history that makes cars special... :)

I think its how the car looks to you when you first see it in person and how the car sounds is a huge part of it for me. Its also the manufacturer, their background and the quality of the car. The sophistication and the technology play a big part as well.

It has to have that "something", and what that something is depends on what car we are talking about. A mini fo example is cool because of it's true Britishness and size. And that's enough...nobody cares that it is cramped. I love Aston Martins also for it's Britishness, besides it being very rare (caurrently production doesn't exceed 650 cars per year) and having a lovely engine sound. Ford Mustangs are great coz, they basically created the american market of coupes. And it has that sexy 70's look. Ferrari, McLaren and Lambo- for their racing heritage. The list goes on and on...

I my favourite car is the Holden Monaro.New and Old,The reason why I like it because its special to me.Its Aussie Icon. When it come to racing it Dominated in the same way the GT40 did at le mans,And it was the car that made Holden what it is today,Back in 1967 the Ford Falcon domitated in Australia Touring Car racing with its Ford Falcon GT.Holden had nothing at the time and their car sales where showing that.Holden designed A car that would be sexy but also a car that would Dominated in motorsport for the next couple of years but was Australias can call there own..In 1968 holden won its first Touring Car Championship and Also took Gallaher 500 miler around Mt Panorama at Bathurst(This began the Ford VS Holden War)..After that its history,That car started the Muscle car War against the Ford Falcon. It broke the rules in style.Even the new has done the same. Its the First car to be recongnise around the world as Australians V8 coupe that has impressive performance. That Car is Australia Automotive history that makes its more attractive. And it has an Awesome sound track. When my dad was a young lad,he dream to own the old one,And I dream for the new one.And thats what I reckon makes a car special.

Extreme quirkiness also makes a car feel special.
Look at the Koenigsegg CC and its Dihedral Synchro-Helix Door Actuation .
Unlike any other car on the road

Or the Saab 9-5...wonderful car from a wonderful company

I don't understand this. You really think that the Saab is a beautiful car????
The car is as dull as a car can be! The design is boring, along with the interior. And it sounds just like its name: Saaaabbbb....
The thing that makes a car special is its design, inside and outside. And Saab is not one of those special cars!!!
The Koenigsegg, for example, is a special car.

Do you think a car is like a women/man??
The first impression which is sometimes the looks is very important??
Them come the interior and it may make the exterior less relevant but still important.
Would you buy a 600hp, 750 torque, ugly car or
a 150 hp, 200 torque, fabulous looking car??

For me a special car is a car that is just a blast to drive. A true dirvers car so to speak. The 84 Honda Accord 5-speed that was my first car had that. Even today when I go and borrow it from the folks, it's still special. Granted it could be because it was my first car, but who knows. Special cars are cars that you just have to drive, can't explain it to anyone else, but you have to drive it.
